Hi Everyone,
I am a violet/gesneriad grower who has just joined DG. I didn't quite know where to put this post, so I guess this is as good a place as any. I met Kim(KimsKreations) at our first AV meeting for the state of Maine and she told me about this forum. What nice people and plants! I have grown AVs for many years(about ten) and gessies most of that time too. I am now getting into hybridizing and would like to sell enough plants locally at least to support my "plant habit". We recently added a plant room for me to this end and I love having the space to grow all those things I couldn't fit in before. I look forward to getting to know everyone and share my plant pics. I don't know the preferred method of posting photos on here yet, I usually make a link, but people are putting pics right in the posts.Maybe someone can help me with this.
OH...if I had scrolled down I would have seen the image place...so here goes a picture; this one is Rob's Mad Cat

Ok Y'all ... I have plans to buy a couple of the standard size Sinningia's this spring! Gail, S. Gabriels Horn is going to be stunning with that red flower! I love Makenzie ... will add that one to my list! The only Sinningia's I have so far are the micro mini pusilla that I got from you Rain and micro mini rio das pedras that I got from Jannich! I've got to try the larger ones!
Welcome to the party :;) you are here..
Hugs,
Susan
Ok Lin, we are going to have sinningias everywhere. I have a confession to make publicly.
I joined a gessie site AND there just happened to be one of the best sinningia hybridizers on the site.
Do I need to tell you that I went to Dave'sviolets' site and ordered more than 20 new sinningias! Promise I haven't ordered any other plants........just seeds. That means that they will grow and I will be taking cuttings and starting lots of sinningias. I tried to find the biggest ones I could (LOL) thinking they might now die so soon.
Wow, Rain, your bloom is a biggie!
****edited to say, Hi Cedarnest..............didn't know you were on here tonight..............when he gets a little bigger there will be lots of cuttings..........thanks to our friend jannich who grows them so well and traded with me.............
I better send her those pictures........she asked about 4 days after i got them if they were still alive??????I can't imagine why she would ask that (LOL) I have killed more than I have at this time.

Gail, I think you told me about that Daves Violets site. Need to look it up again.
Seriously, Lin.............don't buy any.........they will be shipped the first of April............and I will have lots to propagate and share with you. You always are so good to share with me.
Goodness gail..sounds like you are going to have sinningias coming out your ears...lol..Can't wait to see them all.You always grow everything so well..ooooo I need to go check out that site too.
Welcome, Pier!! I'm so glad Kim found somebody to share her plant passion with in person! I'm looking forward to your posts and pictures on this forum... especially since you're planning to do some hybridizing -- how exciting!
Dave is working on an auction site, so we'll have a place to sell our extras... and of course there's a lot of trading here, too. I've got my eye on your gorgeous 'Rob's Mad Cat'... I am sure I see an unnecessary leaf or two along the back side of that plant... LOL!
This is just a fun, informal group, and I hope you'll jump right into the discussions here. We're glad to have you!
Oh Sally, that is the cutest picture ... looks like your little doggie in that basket!
I am always amazed at computer literate people like you, Sally. That is too cute!
thanks!
I KNEW I could count on you ladies to welcome Pier with open arms.
I didn't even know she was signing up for Dave's until I saw her intro thread *lol* She really surprised me :) Was a GREAT surprise!
Pier grows primarily AV's but does love all the gessies like me. I'm the opposite, I fell first for the "other gessies" and now after our first meeting I have my first 25 AV leaves stuck *lol*
We have another meeting this Saturday and Pier is coming over my house to give me some pointers and suggestions.
I can't wait!
I haven't tackled sinningia yet ladies but your pictures are simply beautiful!
Right now I am on a Chirita/Strep kick and am FINALLY thinking I am getting the hang of this growing stuff *lol*
Gail and everyone who has posted, I want to thank you again for welcoming our new friend :) She is a little overwhelmed by how much is on the site and it may take her some time to get the swing of it but that's OK, I'm sure if she needs ANY help with anything, all she has to do is ask :)
GREAT to have you here with us my friend!!
Kim
Wow Everyone!
What a warm welcome! I just love it when I come back to a thread and there are 25 replies...wow! Everyone seems so nice and it is nice to meet you Gail, because Kim talks about you a lot. I am very impressed with the sinningias...I am still kind of feeling it out with them. I will grow one that looks nice and I can't remember what I did and then I have some which are kind of scraggly and when I tried to "pot them down" like a violet, I sent the tuber into dormancy because I planted it too deep. So if someone wants to enlighten me...
As for the other gessies, I grow a little of this and a little of that. I will send some pictures...
Episcia Nancy Gay...
Hi Violetmom
I think you will love it here, they are all so nice & helpful. As for sinningi'a i have over 100 & love everyone of them. I also do hybridizing & thats so much fun.It is so nice to be able to go to a group of people with the same hobby.I have 2 groups i belong to & 2 griends that i see real often that grow alot of the smae plants that i do & i really love it.So welcome & here are a few pictures i have, this one is my first cross of bonnie's baby
I Love that Episcia nancy Gay ... have never heard of that one! I am really getting into the episcia's! Alsobia dianthiflora is beautiful, a perfect looking plant. I had a large basket of that a year ago but, alas couldn't keep it alive! Not sure what I did or didn't do right but it ended up croaking on me! I had a small Alsobia cygnet that died too!
Your photo's are just wonderful!
Very nice, Mrsbonnie! Wow! Over 100 Sinningia's? That is a lot to take care of! You are a true enthusiast! I love those blooms, Bonnie's Baby is so pretty! I am in awe of all the hybridizing! I have never gotten into that, I just love to grow but I imagine it must be so much fun to come up with a new plant to name.
The only Sinn's I have are Micro Mini S. 'pusilla' and S. 'rio das pedras'. I plan on trying a couple of the larger forms sometime this year. And, I have really taken a like to the Episcia's and am going to buy a few more of them too!
Oh my .... lovely, all of them! I really love that one called Mercury! The bloom color is so vivid!
Hi Plant lady;
I have plenty to share including epescia's. as soon as the weather is warm enough i can send you some.mercury 's coloring is really intevse. i'll send you a cutting.
mrsbonnie
That is so sweet of you! Is there any particular plant you are looking for? I might have something to trade!
