Spring Blooms!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, this day is the start of spring and in 88.994 days summer will arrive.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Pirl, Precisely put.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I read it from a link on another NE thread.

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

Hey, thanks for all the forsythia-timing tips! I'm going to go out and scrutinize my bushes as soon as it quits being so drippy outside (been raining for 24 hours here; not heavily, but constantly.)

(Edited to spell forsythia correctly, duh!)

You can certainly prune the roses or BB's now - it's close enough. Forsythia bloom is just a convenient 'natural' reminder. The next couple of weeks (in my area) is also the time to put down pre-emergent. I use corn gluten meal on the lawn and preen in the beds.

Bud on tree peony that is part of the Fairweather order that arrived today.

I'm hoping this wind dies down so I can get some yard work done today. Looks like there is alot more popping up. I definitely need to plant more early crocus next fall. David and Andy, those are beautiful!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

same here Anita... I was hoping after food shopping to go clean up a bit today... I am sure with all this wind there are tons of branches in my yard

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

it's a bit chilly out there right now. Maybe if it hits 40°.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

With the wind gusts we have 23 WC here so I'll stay inside and admire the crocuses from the windows.

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

Pirl, I'm with you (inside!) It's a WC of 22 degrees right now, gusts up to 32 mph. Forsythia are budding, but no flowers as yet.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Ours are very close to blooming. Did you notice the brightness of the clouds today? They're like flashlights coming through the window.

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

Here it's just sparkling with sun --not a cloud in the sky. All the branches and greenery are tossing in the wind and it's beautiful if you like Windchill! I have tulip and daff LEAVES coming up, but that's it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No clouds at all here - another great solar day!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

yes it is, just frustrating that I can't get out. I tried, but my hands got too cold and wouldn't work right. I ran to Home Depot, so I'm stocked on soil and mulch for tomorrow...hopefully

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

YIIIPEEEEEEE ... I finally saw some spring here... it's cold but the sedums have tons of new growth!!!!! oh so cute... the irises are green! and have some growth!!!!
the rosa rugosas have tons of little growth all over... NO die back at all!!!! and even some of the hyb teas have no die back... I am so happy!!!

I finally got the mantis yesterday!!!! I am so ready for spring! and I was going to clean today... well I will try again tomorrow... have to write another paper for school! oh I could care less about school right now... I am going to school only on fall and winter but just classes that are over by april... can't think of not gardening!

yesterday I was coming home and passed by my old condo... I was praising God with all my heart for not living there any more and having a garden... I am really very blessed! I just pray I am always able to have a garden!!!!
Today, I met another gardener - he is teaching my mom how to drive... it was so funny because my sister knows him and he works for a driving school. as soon as he came inside the house he asked "who is the gardener here?" and of course my sister looked at him and said it's my sister kassia, and the garden looks awful rigth now.... oh that was so sweet when he said, "well it's still spring, and I am coming back here to see all the roses and plants.".. I wanted to do the Snoopy dance!!!! of course I told him about DG, about the RU and invited him to come... turns out he is a gardener!!!! ha... that was good!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh Kassia I'm so happy for you. It is coming albeit really slowly, but here and there is something more every day. I have tulip leaves! Now if the bambi gang don't notice them too, I might even get some flowers eventually. All we need is a few warm days in a row and stuff will be popping out all over the place. Yeah!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

yup...it's just around the corner for you Kassia. I enjoyed being out in it all day today. I'm a hurtin' buckaroo, but I've got my stock of motrin! I even went to Home Depot again this evening to pick up a few things for tomorrow in the morning. Company's not coming until 1pm..that gives me part of the morning to be in the yard!

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

Oh Anita, lucky you! It must have felt great to be outside in the garden. I spent a bit of time out on my deck, but it was washing windows so that my guests for dinner tomorrow will actually be able to see outside. . . (it was through a glass darkly before). I want this all to be over so I can get gardening!

Oh yes, I have tulip leaves getting higher every day.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh you guys... I am spoiled ! I don't have to cook tomorrow... so I will do some cleaning for the veggie garden... I have the mantis ... I might even try just for the fun of it... in fact some of the raised beds might get tilled... oh sweet gardening time!!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I am in love with Thom!!

He gave us a NOID daylily at the RU last October. Right now, it's the only green in a bare patch of garden. It's so tiny, but it looks very strong.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

here we go... I am in love with sedums... they are so pretty!!!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I have crocus buds today!! They weren't there yesterday.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh so beautiful!!!! no color but green!!!! now it should come quick! thank God!!!!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I found some short crocus buds under the oak leaves today! Yeah. :)

Love the pics Victor, just look at all the spring colors you have. Isn't spring just getting to be fine at last. Soon we all will have some colorful blooms too.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. Yes, now if we can only get a run of 60 degree days it would really trigger the big burst!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I got crocus buds today too!! Yippie!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, they're in the North side too, where it's much colder. Yay!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think you're on the wrong side of the Hudson!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Why? Your north side is still frozen?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No, I seem to be warming faster than you.
