CLOSED: Getting rid of Border Plant Bugs

Paradise, CA

I am staying in Northern California for a short period with my parents. My mother's backyard is over-run with this bug and they seem to eat a lot. How can I help her to get rid of them.

They almost look like boxelder bugs. I'm sure they may be controlled the same way.

Are you sure they're boxelder bugs? They don't look like boxelder bugs - boxelder bugs have more orange lines on their wings and wingcases. Even the picture of Western Bugelder have more orange than this picture.

JonathanTalley is right, they're Bordered Plant Bugs, which are in the same sub order as Boxelder bugs

There are dozens red and black true bugs that resemble each other, at least vaguely. I don't if they're anything worse than a nuisance by their sheer numbers, but you could try insecticidal soap.

Can you mark this as solved?
