Could some help me to identify this beetle? I am an amature photographer and took this in Northern California.

That it is one of the Darkling Beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. It looks like a member of the genus Nyctoporis, but there are several very similar beetles in that genus and it is hard to pin it down to a species. It looks very like Nyctoporis sponsa: http://bugguide.net/node/view/162862/bgpage but could also be one of the other Nyctoporis species: http://bugguide.net/node/view/134842/bgpage
