Yeah, I got dirt under my nails today and I'm happy about it! It is actually gorgeous outside... 60 degrees. I pulled some weeds( including 1 HUGE dandelion), filled my bird feeders, peeked under some mulch/debris to see if any shoots are coming up. I have some tulips and daffs peeking out. I'm so excited. I know we have a few weeks to go but I can't wait. Anyone else able to go out and play in the dirt?
Dirt under the fingernails
(sigh)
Still 2+ feet of snow here :((
Just dirt from winter sowing . . . still lots of snow on the ground - but it's melting fast. I bet in 2 weeks most of it will be gone :-)
Was stuck doing taxes!!
ugh..taxes.
58 and sunny, went to town and had to remove my coat it was so warm!!!
Calling for rain turning to snow tonight.
Whenever I do that in town with my raincoat I get in trouble.
LOL
Just spotted my first crocus bloom - closed up for the day, but there!
Windchill 39° here today & Ice... (not frost) on the car this am. Tulips peeking out at 2" though. ☺
Ground still has some snow but there are bare spots, more every day and I noticed the top half inch of soil is getting mucky. Of course it's still frozen underneath but it's a start. :)
You mean muddy.
Do you always need to remind me? Yes, mud! I have been sowing seeds on my rack under lights. I have a few milk jugs I am trying to wintersow, and I have a small seedling greenhouse if I can ever get to it. Right now it is only 100 feet from the house but there is 3ft of snow with every step too. I wish I had snow shoes.....knew I should of bought some!
I want dirt under my finger nails :-( right now my place looks like Pixie's with about 2 inches less snow!! Eleanor
We have two pairs of snowshoes hanging in the Canada Room on the third floor . . . never used them though . ..
You have a Canada room?
cool
i played in the yard all day saturday--in the 70's--now down to freezing and our first snow!
I have a NY room.
Welcome Linda!! Would you like some more snow? I have plenty and it's free!
Snow in Texas in March? Wow.
Yep . . . The Canada Room is on the third floor of Our Old House. It has the original Victorian Bar. We can it the Canada Room after Canada House, the Canadian Embassy in London. We have all sort of Canadiana stuff in the room, including prints of very old maps of Canada and British Columbia.
A bar on the third floor?
Those Victorians were brave!!!
Sound like a beautiful old house you have there.
Well, it was probably the gentlemen's gaming room.
The house was originally built in a new subdivision in 1899 by a Mr. Edward Snowman. Apparently, it cost $7000!
Wow, Linda, crazy weather you're having there in Plano. I almost moved out there 5 years ago.
Seandor, did you ever post pics of your house? Sounds beautiful. I LOVE victorians.
So do I.
Mr. Snowman...
heeheehee
I was thinking the same - great name for a guy whose house now has a Canada room!
Flowerjen you are so lucky and I am so envious!!! The ground is still covered with a foot or two of snow here...won't be seeing anything popping out of the ground anytime soon :(
Glad you enjoyed yourself...I enjoyed reading your post.
And...not to rub it in any................ it's supposed to be even warmer tomorrow. Yippee!
I pruned part of my tree today! Wheeeee!! Rescued some tulip greens from dead leaves and dog poop. Bought seeds.
yes --snow in march--our first of the year-and it was perfect--all the grass was covered but the sidewalks and streets were too warm and so they were dry--and now it is all gone and we are in the 50's! no thanks on the offer of free snow -grew up in chicago and i know snow and i do not miss it
I didn't want you to get home sick for Chicago!! LOL
March 4, 2008 5:30 am. The first day of this year I left for work with no jacket required. After work I went to the gym and 30 minutes later I said the heck with this and left to do a couple of miles around the resevior in the fresh air. Then rustled up a couple of burgers on the grill. Yes, kiddos, we're almost there:) !
Wow.
I'm feeling really lazy all of a sudden...
It'll be more of a wow next week when I can do the above and still have enough sunlight left to get dirt under my nails. AND my brother promised to bring me some old chicken poop compost. How many people other than DGers would get excited about that?
I think it is so neat how the zones are so different and how some of you already have plants coming up!!!! We would never see that here! So cool hearing about it though.
I felt guilty so I went out while dinner was cooking and came in with coffee grounds under my fingernails. I spread some of it around but didn't realize just how much I had saved in just a few months due to Victor's encouragement about them attracting worms. Last week I read that they are also supposed to discourage slugs.
That's better than dirt! It's a good organic amendment in general. Were your fingers able to get to sleep?
