Isn't that the most perfect way to start your day!!!!
Who or what inspired you to ponding?
There is always a little garden of Eden to be found..just have to take time to find it right?
Today I wish you all a day of ordinary miracles...
Yes Jeri, the most desired start that is.
Betty,
Yes, it'll be there and we have to find it, our Eden. Miracles.... I look for them, however ordinary. Thanks.
Jeri - I've seen your pond and surrounding gardens - you've got your own beautiful little Eden as well!
Dinu - have you looked into the possibility of adding a small waterfall to your pond? Even with traffic noise, I would think you'd be able to hear the water when you're sitting right by it??
Betty, that lighthouse is really cute. Should look nice next to your pond.
Dinu, tomorrow while sitting next to your 'Eden' here is a little something to reflect upon...(know this is about ponds, but with all our talking of tranquility and our own Eden thought you wouldn't mind- I hope)
The Best Day of My Life
Today, when I awoke, I suddenly realized that this is the best day of my life, ever!
There were times when I wondered if I would make it to today; but I did! And because I did I'm going to celebrate! Today, I'm going to celebrate what an unbelievable life I have had so far: the accomplishments, the many blessings, and, yes, even the hardships because they have served to make me stronger.
I will go through this day with my head held high, and a happy heart. I will marvel at God's seemingly simple gifts: the morning dew, the sun, the clouds, the trees, the flowers, the birds.
Today, none of these miraculous creations will escape my notice. Today, I will share my excitement for life with other people. I'll make someone smile. I'll go out of my way to perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone I don't even know. Today, I'll give a sincere compliment to someone who seems down. I'll tell a child how special he is, and I'll tell someone I love just how deeply I care for her and how much she means to me.
Today is the day I quit worrying about what I don't have and start being grateful for all the wonderful things God has already given me. I'll remember that to worry is just a waste of time because my faith in God and his Divine Plan ensures everything will be just fine.
And tonight, before I go to bed, I'll go outside and Praise my eyes to the heavens. I will stand in awe at the beauty of the stars and the moon, and I will praise God for these magnificent treasures.
As the day ends and I lay my head down on my pillow, I will thank the Almighty for the best day of my life. And I will sleep the sleep of a contented child, excited with expectation because I know tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life, ever!

Nearly 11 years ago I spent my Honeymoon in Hawaii at a Hyatt Regency. Nearly every night I requested we eat in the most expensive restaurant on the property, not for the food (I don't even remember if it was any good) but to feed the couple hundred Koi fish in the pond right from the table. The dinner tabs were about $200 each night (ah to be young and in love . . .) and I was feeding the fish bread from the table all night.
We just had our water feature completed this past December but because we are in zone 5 it's too cold to stock with koi yet. Our pond is approximately 15 by 19 feet and the river is 35 feet long with a small water fall. I already want to make the pond larger because this one seems smallish in our large yard. . . Our contractor warned me about that. . .
I'll post pictures this summer when I landscape it with trees and plants and add the fish. I can't wait until it warms up here!
Sounds awesome, mothermole! Can't wait to see pics!

I was inspired by EVERY pond or water garden I saw, I knew I HAD to have one. I don't have fancy fish in mine, I tried 2 small Koi and they both died, so I went to the pet shop and bought 10 feeder goldfish and some cheap Shubunkins spending 25 cents a piece for them. They were colored, yellow, red and white, orange and white, black and orange etc. That was 3 years ago. When I saw them last,(they are under snow and ice now) they had more than tripled their size! They come to be fed each time I sit down on my stone bench. I am still inspired by every picture I see posted, so THANK YOU!
Kathy
Yes indeed, Kathy. Your small pond is good.. inspires me!
Hi All,
New to Daves Garden site and happy to find this pond forum. My pond is about 1 1/2 years old and I have enjoyed it so much. It is about 3200 gal and home right now to 13 Koi and visiting frogs .
The picture was taken in the summer of 2007 at its peak! Looking forward to this coming season. 2008 plants waiting to be added, as we have had another cold snap here in the Willamette Valley. Darn!
Love to garden too! Tulips & Daffodils are great this year. Looking forward to Spring time!
Welcome to Dave's BeaHive! I am so glad that you posted a pic of your beautiful pond. It is amazing!
Well Hello BeaHive! That's a mighty nice pond you've got there. Thanks for sharing the pic.
Hi Beehive!!! Welcome to Dave's Garden!!! Your arrangement of plants really makes it so soothing and relaxing!!! Thank you for sharing!!!!!
Jeri
Bea Hive,
Your pond is gorgous!
Kathy
Welcome! Very pretty, BeaHive!
BeaHive,
That's a lovely pond you have. Had seen this post before but hadn't been in the mood to respond then... you know the situation that prevailed. My 4 year old pond will see its end to give way to a new but smaller one.. I couldn't resist the temptation. I thought I'd have no space for that now, but I have found a space for it. Hope you have followed my other threads in the photos forum.
Dinu. Glad you decided to replace your pond. Even though it will be smaller, they are a great place to relax and reflect on your day. Great for photo's also! Love all of your pictures!
Dinu: Maybe I missed the answer in this thread but why is your pond going smaller?
I loved looking at all the ponds here and the stories behind the inspiration. Loved the Nascar story!
BeaHive,
The planned one is very close to the front gate with lot of public view which I want to avoid. Accordingly, there is a plan to get the gate designed in such a way that it will also shield view. Will post pictures as and when it takes shape. Now the most difficult job is to remove the old one. Have to look for barrels and drums to store my water lilies and fish till such time the new one gets ready. I would use the old plastic liner itself as I feel it is still good at the bottom, though it has holes [made by ants and roots, now repaired] on its sides. What do you say?
mothermole,
The property is being divided between we two brothers and I have chosen to live in the half where there was no garden and so I have to leave behind the half where I created my garden in 10 years. I've chosen that half because it had better accommodation areas for our family needs though we had to create basic facilities like kitchen, bath and toilet in this half. That house as a whole had them in the half which I'm moving away from.
So, I stay inspired, despite the division, having tasted the beauty of ponding!
I think if you are making a new pond ,if $$ available, I would start with a new liner. This is the most critical part of the pond . I would hate to see you work so hard making the new pond and find out later that it leaks. I am looking forward to seeing your pictures .
My inspiration was a beautiful Butterfly Koi that kept jumping out of the pond at the Science Room at the Mall. I would go every week and started hand feeding him. They said I could have him since he kept getting hurt when he jumped out and would land on the floor. So I went home and DH said no. so I dug a secret hole in the back yard. By then it was October and I was freezing, digging, digging, hiding behind the Canna Bed☺finally I confessed and DH relented. By then someone else had taken the beautiful Koi,but I was well on my way to a 1000gal Koi pond and 12 years later I have 3 ponds and all the tranquility we need☺
People adopt dogs and cats all the time. But I believe that this is the first time I've ever heard of anyone planning a secret koi adoption. And how would you have explained this to DH? "Honey, he followed me home?" "And I dont know how that hole got there either!" Hysterical. Just hysterical! :D
HAHAHA! Snapple! That visual is making me ROAR with Laughter☺☺
Here is a pic from the balcony. You can see the partition wall coming up. The red area is the proposed spot. The blue line is a proposed 'fence' that would also shield the pond's view from the gate. The stone trough will be moved in towards the pond. The pond will have stones at its perimeter. I intend to have a pit dug up to 2 feet in the centre with a level half way towards the edge. I've to decide on that soon. I'll also have to take care that rainwater does not flow in to it and I've told the mason to adjust the height of the filling accordingly. I've told him where I'll keep my rainwater filter drum.
BeaHive, I agree with you.. I'll now think of a new liner.
Hi..Dinu...now I will watch this thread..hehehehe...looking good...
smiles..Diana..
Diana,
Welcome to the thread!
My friend [see first picture], later changed his pond liner and then he painted it with cement! He does things like these.
I made that frog snap my computer desktop backdrop. Thanks BeaHive for the smile!
Your welcom. I have another shot of a frog as my screen saver!
They just bring a smile to your face.
