Abiu fruit.

Ok I was wrong. lol. Let me google. I saw them somewhere.

No worries. Bob tells me we have 6 of the trees...and one is mature. Gotta find out which one and watch for the fruit. The breakdown of the fruit - link above - doesn't make it sound terribly glam but rather the latest rage in the pyramid style selling schemes.

Good! lol. Can't find it now.

Yeah, it's a new scheme. Pomegrates was the last one. I'm interested in it cause a recipe of mine calls for it so I want to try it. I can get some if they quit hiding it in our local stores. lol

No sign of a sprout from the Abiu yet, I am resisting the urge to scratch around in the pot - it hard though!
Another fruit I haven't heard about, Acai. I really do have to get off this Island sometime!
Keep 'em coming, so much to learn - so little time left!

Go ahead, jen...dig away....!!! I have a few dozen I can send.....

Acai is actually a palm seed...can't say the description made we want to go out and try it....not even the fact that it has little nutrition in it and is the drink of the poor tribal areas....

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

That's it! I am going to uncover them tomorrow, dying to see if anything has happened after all it's a week tomorrow that I planted them.
Think I can do without the Acai (fruit?), doesn't sound too good to me judging by your description. Is this the latest, hippest thing going on the Mainland?
Be sure to let us know how it tastes Pepper.

It is supposedly the *it* fruit now. I am gonna see what it tastes like. From what I have read by itself it's nothing special but sweeten it up some then it's good.

I hope the abiu has sprouted some!!

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Look what sprouted! My first little abiu tree! The second one is just about to come up out of the ground too! I dug these poor little thing up so many times it's a wonder they made it at all!

I can just hear you now Carol, "patience, little grasshopper"! (said in the best Kung Fu way!)
Now what do I do with it Carol ? (oh boy, that was leaving myself open wasn't it?). Do I risk putting it in the garden or should I leave it in the pot for a while - tell me Master.....

I am so excited I am actually going to try a smiley ^_^

Great, Jen. Have no doubt whatever that you will have a full grown tree by the end of the summer. Can't believe this fruit could be any better than what I have already sampled. Crossing my fingers.

Aloha,

The fruit is to die for, that's why I am so excited that the seed sprouted! I just hope that it will do as well as Carols here at sea level.

Jen...aloha!

Good on Ya!!!! i just knew it would come up - OH, and so did ALL of the gloriosa Lily seeds!!!!

I would wait until it fills that little pot...or at least has it's real set of leaves....then I would pot it UP. We usually plant trees out in the orchard when they have filled a 2 gal. pot. You 'could' probably grow that out in a BIG pot on your great deck....the fruit forms right on the branches and it usually grows rather tall and narrow rather than wide. The fruit is often so heavy on the branches that they (branches) break if they are too long.

Congratulations!!!!
