CLOSED: help with bug eggs

I looked under some foliage in my outside garden and saw something pretty strange. It looked like a tiny bowl with small, flattened beans. That's what it looked like anyway. The eggs actually looked like grasshopper eggs. But don't they lay their eggs in lined clusters on a bush or something? I haven't seen this before. I looked and this particular plant was the only one with the eggs. Also they were just piled in the "bowl". Sorry no pics, I can't find my digital camera. I'll try to get one tomorrow. I threw out most of them. They couldn't be praying mantis eggs, could they?

What I can't figure out after reading a few articles, is it good to have or kind of dangerous? I don't like the idea of my trees and bushes having them on the trunks and stuff.

You're welcome! There are a few threads about them here on Dave's, but I've never heard that they're harmful or anything like that.

The only problem they cause is when you park your car near them.

ceejaytown, I can see why that would be a problem. Most people don't like fungus on their tires! Or touch something slimy on the door handle. Ech!

Well, I understand that when those tiny "beans" are flung they are hard to get off the paint. And that's how the spores are dispersed.

ceejaytown, that's exactly what I have read. Now I know what is going on in my dirt. Only I don't know if it is good or bad. People say to not worry about it, but I don't know. I still feel that most fungus' are bad and should be kept from spreading.
