I thought this was a Brown Hooded Owlet Caterpillar but it isn't even close to the ones pictured in bugfiles. hehe, I wonder what my id average is.. pretty pitiful

Don't feel too bad - there's one on bug guide that hasn't been ID'd either, except tentatively to the same genus as the Brown-hooded Owlet, Cucullia

But, I was unable to find any other info on the Camphorweed Cucillia or Cucillia alfarata. The top of that page refers to page 390 of the book Caterpillars of Eastern North America by Dave Wagner. Anyone have that book?

If you do a Google Image search for Brown Hooded Owlet Caterpillar my photo I posted above will come up because I posted it on the photo sharing site called Flickr with the wrong ID & somebody has also blogged it with the same wrong id. :-( The frown is for the wrong id I made not because it was blogged.
