I often hear people complaining that they have too many pinks in their collection. Well there are a whole collection of brugmansias hybridized by Ludger Schneider with Brenda Delph (of Seedsprout Nursery) as the seed parent. Collectively these brugs were nicknamed "Little Monkeys". I just love these orange brugs. This time of year, for me, I get really bright electric orange colors on Ludgers Summer Dream. They also tolerate the heat well thriving even during the long hot summers here in south florida. I have personally grown 3 of these "monkey" crosses and loved every one of them. If you are looking for a new color to add to your garden you should look to the "monkey's".
Ludgers Summer Dream
Those are truly beautiful. I will have to go to Brenda's site I have purchased from her befor.
Oh how beautiful is that!!?? I love orange! Such a pretty picture Gary.. Thank you for sharing! I like your method of closing the bloom, it is hardly noticeable!
We need more bloom pics!!!!
I close my blooms up with twine after pollination to keep out the nasty bees. It's a natural fiber that breaks down quickly in the garden. When a bloom has finished and falls off with the twine I just leave it on the ground. In no time it's gone. I also use twine to stake up my brugs or train them into a shape (ie. to grow upright and not wide). The twine will break down on it's own in time but usually lasts long enough to do the job. Also if the trunk starts to get very thick, the twine will not dig into the trunk as it expands. The fibers will break first. So a natural fiber twine (from the dollar store) is one of my invaluable garden supplies.
Thank you for that very valuable bit of info! I used velcro, but it is very rigid.. and causes damage if I don't remove it... not to mention it is unsightly on a bloom and too expensive to toss it!
Thankz again Gary!
Such a gorgeous orange. I love it!
Pretty picture, Gary. Goodness knows there's a bunch of "monkeys" running around Brenda's greenhouse! LOL
Gary, I got one of the "Monkey" crosses from Brenda's store, Jamie's Monkey Business, I have a few seedlings about ready to pot up to 4" pots. Your picture makes me very excited. I hope I can keep them alive.
Thanks,
Marie
I love the beautiful orange color.
Thanks
I have JMB crossed with Genevieve. 5 have sprouted and are about ready to pot up.
The excitement grows.............
The Jamie's monkey business that I have is about to bloom soon. It'll be the only bright thing outside with all this rain. Someone forgot to tell me they moved San Diego to Seattle. I'm a pink freak myself, but orange is cheerful.
I've been drooling over these 'monkey' Brugs for a while now. I almost bought one or two, but decided to wait until frost danger is over. How healthy are they? Any fragrance difference?
Wow, that's indescribible. That's a color I could live with.
JMB is beautiful!!!
I am so glad you posted this picture. I have been sitting here peeling seeds and have some crosses with Ludgers Summer Dream. I think some crossed with New Orleans Lady. I will have to grow out a few.
Kell if those did cross, they would be some pretty neat looking brugs and should smell fantastic on top of it all.
Hi Kell! That is a great cross! NOL is a fantastic daddy..
I have JMB and found it needs a lot of sun. The tendrils are to die for!
I have a NOL pod on Ludgers Summer Dream right now.
The problem with the little monkeys is that their parentage is unknown. Therefore it's hard to pinpoint why they produce a lot of albino seedlings. More so than the average cross where you may see an occasional one. Albino seedlings will eventually die because they can't produce the chloropyll that they need to survive. One of my LSD crosses however, being grown out by a fellow brug addict has produced a true variegated seedling which grew to maturity and has already bloomed for him. Sad to say the blooms were not orange :{
So you never know what you are going to get with monkey crosses.

Gary.. thanks for showing the picture... I find myself with a few cuttings... rooted nicely now... with letters written on the stem... I can't remember just who it was from... one of the unmentionable Ft Walton crw no doubt.. One is marked LSD.. I can't wait to see it become Ludgers Summer Dream now... that I've seen the picture... and hearing what she parents..
one of hte others is marked just " E " .. could that one be Everlasting..there's a third.. but I can't remember what it was or have any clue what so ever as to what it might be... I'd asked Donna.. and she didn't know either .. but knew that they weren't hers.. I'll have to check on my return home.. bu t first to plant a few dozen brugs here in AL and over to Tupilo to plant more there this year...

I rushed back from my Master Gardener class to bid again & the stupid computer froze! I didn't get restarted until it was over! Darn, darn, darn!

Linda, Seed Sprout has Ludger's Summer Dream. Her plants are always very nice and healthy. I've bought a number of Brugs from her.

I'd second that Betty.... it's a sure bet to buy from her.
oh no! another link to more wonderful brugs?! LOL!
Paul, that is one gorgeous little monkey. Is she a new introduction?
Yes she is Betty, A long way from distribution. It has been a tough winter. One good friend has her, and I cant wait to get her out to all you Orange Lovers!!
The problem with Seedsprout is I can't pick just one, I look & think I need about 6 more. (grin) At least with ebay, I am only concentrating on one at a time. Orange is my favorite , I NEED more that will match my peach-colored house (it's actually Laura Ashley pale pumpkin).
Linda
lol linda I just did the same thing... how did you narrow it down to just 6?!
