CLOSED: SUNSHINE TREE seeds - for trades or SASE

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Dear Friends,   Christmas exhausted me but I'm all rested up now and ready to scatter seeds!   So please allow me to resume with . . .

                        Sunshine Tree   (Senna surattensis)

Also:   Scrambled Egg Tree, Glossy Shower, Singapore Shower
                        and Glaucous Cassia.
Syn:  Cassia surattensis, Cassia suffruticosa,
                        or Cassia surattensis var. suffruticosa.
PF info, see:  http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/64960/ .

This small subtropical shrub produces intense blooms of bright yellow flowers year-round, even throughout the winter.  It's foliage is evergreen and its growth rate is moderate.  A mature height and spread is 15'-20’ x 15'-20’.  It can be pruned to create an outstanding small tree making it ideal as an accent for small landscapes.  It will take drought and can stand short frosts. Blooms are followed by brown seed pods (fruit).  Its flowers will attract butterflies.  Hardy in USDA zones 8b-11.

The source plant for these seeds, shown here, is allowed to simply bush out every year - - the owner severly cuts these back to 2 feet in early February (zone 8b) to keep the height under 15'.

Gently scarify (nick) the outer coating of each seed and soak 18-24 hrs. in water prior to sewing at a depth of approx. 1 cm  (3/16 inch).

AVAILABLE NOW - - packets of approx. 100 seeds
For trades or for an SAE with at least 58˘ in LOOSE postage stamps (U.S. postage only) . . . Please do not affix the stamps to your self-addressed envelope.  My thanks in advance for that favour.   ;--)

If you participate in the DG address exchange, here's a link to my postal info =>   http://davesgarden.com/address_exchange/view.php?user=LazLo - - No need to reserve seeds with a D-Mail - - unless you want to trade.  If you just want me to put some into the wind to you, just send your SAE and postage.

If you are not in the address exchange, send me a D-Mail to reserve seeds and receive my postal info.  If you are outside the U.S. and use PayPal , contact me - we can work something out regarding the postage.

Hi Laszlo,

Please send me d-mail if you're interested in a trade!

Thanks

I hate to say this but I would like some for postage. I don't know what the deal is with what's growing in your area. We're basicly in the same climate and you don't see any of these plants growing here let alone for sale. I'm afraid your going to think I'm a leech. lol. I'll send a SAE and some loose stamps.

I am so glad I clicked on this thread. A friend of mine gave me a stump of this tree she had cut back last fall and she called it Golden Showers. I have been unable to find out anything about it anywhere, but here it is! Just goes to show you can learn something even when your not trying :~) Thanks!

Could that also used as a large houseplant when pruned properly ? If so could I try for SASE please ?

Hello, Everybody. This is Peggy, Don's wife. Unfortunately, the big ŁazŁo has been laid low by the old flu bug. The one not covered by his vaccination shot in the fall. He's asked me to post this message to let you all know there will be a slight delay in getting your seed packages, as he put it, "in the wind this time around." I think he will be back at this keyboard before the week end. Thanks for your patience.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank you for updating us, I'll stop stalking the mailman for a few days ;O)

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

Sorry to hear your feeling poorly. Hope your feeling better soon!

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

I hope Don gets to feeling better real soon. Just about everybody here where I work has been down with it the past 3 or 4 weeks. Most get over it in a week. So I guess it's really making its rounds. So far, I've avoided it.
Get well, Don.

Pam

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Get well soon Don!

Bloomington, CA(Zone 9b)

I hope you feel better. I hate being sick!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Funny I keep hearing people who got flu shots and are getting the flu. It's almost flu season for us which means it's time for the tourist to show up. LOL. I swear I think the tuorist from up North are the only reason we ever have the flu around here.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

lol! I didnt get a flu shot this year, and its the only year I haven't come down with the flu!

Hi Lazlo,
Just wondering if you have any of the sunshine tree seeds left? if so, I would greatly appreciate a pack for the sase and 58 cents postage.
Thanks,
Becky

Blackshear, GA(Zone 8a)

Wishing Don to feel better soon.

(Cathy), MO

I haven't got mine yet either. Hope it's nothing serious.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Don hasn't been heard from in a while. I wouldn't be complianing about your seeds. Hope everything is alright.

(Cathy), MO

I don't think anyone is complaining CoreHHI. I've got seeds from Don before and he is always so prompt. This is not like him at all, so I know something is going on. Sending all kinds of good wishes your way Don.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Yes he is quick that's what is making me wonder.

(Cathy), MO

Last I saw his wife posted that he was sick. Did I miss a later post saying what was going on?

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm not worried about the seeds, more worried about Don.... I hope that my post didnt sound as if I ws worried about seeds, as that wasnt my intent at all. I just havent heard in a while and was curious how things were going. I wasnt sure if he had sent them out and maybe mine were lost in the mail..?

I really do hope Don is feeling better and everything is okay with him, as that is what is most important. :o)

Don, sending thoughts and prayers your way....
Anjl
