Can I go ahead and put these in the ground.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't think we will have any more real freezes here. (I could be wrong) It was 34 last night, but probably won't get down to freezing. I'm still winter sowing stuff, but a lot of the ones out there are 8 inches tall and I keep having to put new plastic over them to keep up with the height.
Am I wasting time ws and should I just go ahead and plant the ones that are getting carried away. Even the ones inside are doing the same things. I put one sweet pea vine in the kitchen window and then noticed last night it has started climing on the mini-blind.
I didn't know if anything above freezing would be ok to plant in

Lorraine,

any idea what your "last frost date" is?

last year, when i planted out my tomatoes too soo -- i knew it was too son, but they too were big and needed to get into the ground.

I used the top half of the 2Ltr bottles and put them around the plants until I knew it was 'safe'.
some days i took the cover off, so they wouldnt roast in the sun, but if it was going to get cool/cold over night -- i'd recover them and they did just fine.

I think they went out 2-3 weeks too early -- around here, we really shouldn't plant out before mothers day.

Lorraine: What is is that you're thinking of planting out? Perennials? Hardy Annuals? Tender annuals?

I've put some poppies out in the garden even here. They are fine...it's been at least 3 weeks.

I have some Nasturium and stuff that are really up. This sweet pea is trying to grow around the mini blind. I didn't want to go out side so I took picture of how big the ones in here are. The ones outside are just the same, some of them, some haven't germinated yet.

Lorraine sweet peas and Nasturtium are cool weather plants. You could put them out now safely. If you don't you probably are not going to get any enjoyment out of them anyway. I have learned in our zone to put the poppies and sweet peas out in the fall. We warm up so quickly that just about the time these get started the heat fries them. Last winter my sweet peas grew all winter and were gorgeous. This year I got too tied up in seed swapping and Daves that they slipped by me. My sweet peas have got to go in the ground this week though. They are rambling everywhere. Pinch them back and put them out.

Cool, our weather is probably almost the same, since I'm 8A and probably not far from you.
I will get them out. I thought the Nas probably could go out, but have never had sweet peas.
When do the leaves on your nast. start to get light and die.? I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if I just expect them to last too long
Thanks, gonna go plant Nast.

First time I ever had the nast was last year and all I remember is a poor showing.

Mine didn't either, I'm just too stubborn to quit trying because I really like them. Right as first mine were really pretty, then the leaves started looking ugly, etc.
I guess everything was going into the flowers and the leaves got left out.
We may be taking too good care of them. They say, they like bad soil and to just leave them alone. I just don't seem to be able to do that!!!
