My ideal vacation would probably be to Hawaii. Has anybody been?
Vacation Plans??
Never - I don't want to vacation anyplace where the average daily temperature is warming than 72 degrees - which makes me wierd, I know.
However, lots of people on the westcoast go to Hawaii - and everyone I know LOVED it.
The local radio news announced that the National Arboretum was losing 40% of its funding -- they made it sound like it was a done deal.
No - the budget process has only just begun.
Michaela, I'd LOVE a place like you described.
Never been to Hawaii Jen. My brother has been living on Kauai Island for 10 years now. Whaaaa! I wanna visit!
Sofonisba-WOW you have a major excuse to go visit and a free stay to boot!
I know!!! If only I could swing the plane fare.
Hey maybe with the tax rebate everyone is supposed to be getting? Did I just enter the political realm again? sorry.
Well, I have tickets from Boston to Seattle for $150 one way - then you just have to find a cheap fare from Seattle to Honolulu.
Any extra $ is going to the mortgage, heating oil, summer camp, and those darn credit cards! Urgh, if I could just get rid of that last one.
I'm on the West coast, but never been to Hawaii and dont really want to go :-) If I were to go there, it would only be long enough to see Pearl Harbor history points and then back home for me. I'm the opposite.... I love going where the weather is cold --somewhere BELOW 72 daily :-) LOL! I too loved the arboretum -- I hope they are able to keep it open :-)
Well, going from zone 9a California to Hawaii is sort of like taking coal to Newcastle :-)
No vacation here. I take care of my mom so kinda house bound the last two years and for the foreseeable future. My garden is my vacation and get away to relax. :)
oneanjl...I will gladly change states with you RIGHT NOW (before another foot of snow arrives tonight) I am aching to get warm, really warm.... I want to sweat. Never thought the word "sweat" would sound sooooo good!
No vacation here either ngam. Just trying to save pennies it seems lately.
I'm with you Celeste!!
I am treating my self to 4-5 days in Florida at the end of April. I haven't had anytime off since 2004 and then I stayed in Maine!
Lately i've been asking myself why didn't I got at the end of Feb. or March? Then I remember April is mud season and I will be tired of mopping the floors 7 days a week, sometimes 2 or 3 X a day!
Yeah, April isn't much better in Maine than March. Brown and muddy. Last year around mid April I was so desperate to get out of here and see something green, so I went to visit my mom in Myrtle Beach. I can remember stepping out of the airport there and just inhaling the scent of things alive and growing...such a nice smell! I went to a plant sale with her down there at a big garden/park thing (can't think of the name, a huge place with a lot of sculptures), so that was nice too. And I remember I kept checking the evening temps in Maine while I was in SC so I kept calling my husband to make sure he was keeping certain plants covered at night. I'm sure Fla will be a wonderful escape for you.
Noreaster, that is exactly what I want to do.....smell GREEN!! Fresh air that doesn't take your breath away when you inhale deeply, and another color besides white and brown!
okay, I think you have all finally got me grateful that I live in CA. I cant imagine what life would be like if I were waiting for snow to melt. I usually get spring fever right after thanksgiving.... so april is still a good 5 months from November! I would be absolutely insane by then if I were stuck inside! LOL!
Here's praying you all get an early spring up north!
Anjl
Anjl, We have 103" of snow so far this winter and right now MN is dumping another foot on us. I will be lucky to see the ground in May at this rate!! I usually plant my veggie garden at the end of May...one year it was almost mid June by the time I got it planted due to a very rainy spring. Now you know where the term "Cabin Fever' comes from! LOL
I cant even imagine! by june, it is getting pretty warm here, and I am dreaming of an early fall! lol! I'm sure things will be a lot different once I move to WA. I think its still cold and snowy there right now. Guess I should just enjoy while I can.
Anjl, sometimes I get jealous of you guys in warmer climates, but then I find a thread about someone who live in too warm a place in CA to grow hostas, and then I don't feel so bad. ;) I guess it's all relative, but I love hostas and absolutely can't wait to see mine again.
But, I think Feb, March, and April in Maine are really depressing and hard to get thru. It's hard to hear about people having daffodils and the like when we are still two months out or whatever...
Pixie, the nice thing about my April trip was that when I got home, it didn't feel like I had a super long time to wait anymore. Kind of broke up the waiting, I guess.
Good to hear, it's what im hoping for. I just need to get out of this slump of hoo-hum days.
