FAQ or Sticky for the Morning Glory Forum??

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

HI MG Fanatics!

I often lurk here and admire your beautiful photos. So now I would like to start growing a few morning glories for our yard--

A kind poster here graciously sent me a wonderful envelope of seeds but now do you know if there is a good FAQ thread (or another MG site) I could refer to for the basic info on seed starting, etc. ?

Or if there isn't, has anyone thought of starting a Sticky for this Forum?

So much interesting discussion goes on here--thanks! t.

Bluespiral posted many helpful links on this thread. It has helped me along. As a newbie myself I sadly don't have much to add.
Good luck!

There were some previous threads on the subject of a sticky
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/766753/
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/780080/
along with some private discussion(s)...

I thought things were progressing nicely enough, but then some 'polemics' caused a disintegration and I subsequently became disenchanted with any further progress in this definite newbie friendly area...

Maybe someone will pick up the torch once again...

Anyone(!) is Free(!) to do a Sticky and/or FAQ's...

Ah, well, it looks like the conversation got a bit complex on this thread

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/780080/

but it looks like there is a concensus that one is needed---just the details need to be ironed out. And of course it can always be changed... but I'll let others deal with it since I'm naive about these things.

In the meantime I'll try to start my seeds and see what happens! Thanks. (-: t.

At this point I don`t even care what is in the sticky. I`d just like to see one there.

tobasco,

Lightly nick and soak your seeds about 6 hours. They should be somewhat swollen. Plant them in clean store bought seed starting medium. Plant 1/4" depth and water. Keep moist but not too soggy. The dirt should drain well. Use about 4 inch pots for 1-2 seeds and transplant them after they true leaves on them.

Why not everyone chime in on this and the first sticky could be This one from the standpoint of a newbie wanting to start new seeds? Again,a suggestion!

The link Heavinscent(Caren) posted is remarkable. Wonderful sticky material! If we don`t just do it then it won`t get done. Let`s roll. Karen

Thanks, gardener--that is what I need to know! I have my lights up and my planting mix ready, I was just trying to determine what pre-treatment and how deep and so on.

And, why, yes! heavinscent's link is very good and the posts quite helpful. I overlooked it the first time and now just browsed the first several posts and many of my questions have already been answered. Thankyou.

For a first timer, it doesn't seem like much more would be needed for a sticky. Somebody should just have it made a sticky now while the seed starting season is just getting going for most people around here and they are looking for the basics...

It can always be added to and edited as time goes by.

But I guess the devil's in the details, eh?

Thanks again. t.

Beckygardener and I are still trying to get it done - I've taken on some projects that keep getting in the way - but I'm hoping in the next 7 days I'll be free enough to get back to the sticky - a lot of work has already gone into it.

Well that's good news! Thanks.

Yes! We realize there is a genuine need for a sticky here! We plan to get it up shortly! Please give us a little longer. Thanks y'all! :-)

I need to tack on a few more days - but not giving up. Another death in my family - Jimmy volunteered for four tours of duty in Viet Nam flying helicopters because, as he put it, "I'm not leaving my buddies behind." Well, he was always looking after friends and family and country with an unbelievably fierce love and crazy sense of humor - our opinions were usually on opposite sides of the fence - but what's an opinion in the overall scheme of things that really matter?

Karen - So very sorry to hear about Jimmy. I think about our men and women fighting overseas and am so grateful for their huge sacrifices. Losing their life is the ultimate sacrifice. How sad. {{{Hugs}}}

Karen - Sorry to hear about Jimmy. I haven`t seen my brothers in years and miss them both. I can`t fathom how you must be feeling. Hang in there. Words pale and fail to express the heart sometimes when typing here in the cold black and white text.

bluespiral, On a different note, I was afraid you`d be waiting until you had it finished before you put it up. I`m positive you have the basics more than perfected. We are all behind you on the project and if anything needs corrected or changed you can contact admins and get back in to tweak it if need be. This is only a suggestion and meant for encouragement.

Thank you, All. I'm embarrassed that I put something so personal on the board - but now that it's done, am glad that you got to *meet* Jimmy. He was enjoying retirement and family - a career soldier who never lost his humanity and so much more. I'll be back shortly. When WE finish this sticky, there'll be a little bit of us all in there - and lots of Ron, too - lol.
