Wish me luck!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

After five years of living in the US, we finally have an interview with Immigration in Harford tomorrow (still have to figure out directions!)

Of course, we are all sick with a very bad cold . . . so I am sure we are going to make a very favourable impression.

Michaela

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Best of luck to you, Michaela!! Knock 'em dead!! (I think?)

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Somehow I don't want to use the word "dead" with Homeland Security!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Yeah, good point! LOL

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Good luck! I'm sure it will be a sneeze..umm, mean breeze! LOL

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Don't mention "sneeze' - that's all I have done all day! And tomorrow I have to appear at probably (just sneezed - twice!) the most important interview of my life . . .

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks, pixie and Eleanor! :-) It's amazing how fast everything is happening now that we spent a small fortune on a lawyer :-)

North Augusta, ON

Good luck!!

Sending positive thoughts Southward for you.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Thank you threegardeners . . . where is North Augusta in Ontario? I am from BC, so I am not very familiar with Ontario - I can locate Toronto, Hamilton, London, Owen Sound, Thunder Bay and Ottawa - oh, and Niagra Falls.

North Augusta, ON

I am about 1 hour 35 minutes South-Westish of Ottawa.

I would love to visit BC sometime.

Good luck, Michaela!!!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, when you go threegardens, d-mail me and I will tell you all the things to see - and where to save your money!

Once we get permanent residency, we will be able to travel more freely back and forth between Canada. My David has a 2nd cousin in Ottawa and we like to go camping.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Good luck "ah". No loose that or they will think you still have too much maple syrup in your veins. I can't wait to hear what they asked you about. Patti

Good luck!!!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Michaela - be sure to tell us how it went!!! Thinking of you! Louise

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, the three of us, all very ill with what appears to be the flu, dutifully dressed and went to Hartford for "biometrics" - which, it turns out, means they want your weight, height, eye and hair colour, and to fingerprint you.

Getting there was very easy. I had fears of a 25 minute drive to Hartford and a 50 extension trying to find the place. Interestingly, the outside of the building is not marked with anything that would indicate it was associated with the federal government, Homeland Security, or immigration.

Fingerprinting is done with computers now (I had thought we would all leave with purple finger tips!) The poor fellow had a dickens of a time trying to get a good copy from me. He wanted to know if I spent a lot of time typing! Apparently, DG has contributed to me wearing away my fingerprints!

So, now we wait to get a "notice" - though I have no idea what the notice is about. I expect the notice might be to appear for an interview.

So no interesting questions so far . . . the security guard was very friendly; actually everyone was very friendly.

North Augusta, ON

Cool!!!

Will this all mean that you will have a dual citizenship? Or do you give up one for the other?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good to hear. I have to scan my fingerprint to start my new notebook computer!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Glad to hear it went well so far!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

good luck with the notice... hope all goes well

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

This is just to get permanent residency - citizenship is another 5 years, and I doubt we would apply unless we could have dual citizenship.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Michaela, from one immigrant to another... I am glad everyone was friendly to you... the Boston office is another story ... I have had really hard times there... there was a particular guy there that every time I had to go I prayed he never waited on me... one year I took an american friend with me so she could see how rude some people could be... and she was a big help!

my mom and Philip have to be in Boston at 8am in two weeks for fingerprinting etc... but is't for their citizenship - and yes, they will have dual citizenship...

so hang in there... nothing goes really quick there... not that I want to, but I try to think of their standpoint of the millions of applications they have... and also the amount of really bad people they have to deal with...

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

True . . . I expect that, like many civil servants, the people at immigration are overworked and underpaid.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Michaela!

I'm so happy that all went well for you ... so far.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Candyce . . . so far, so good!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

We need a LOT more people in this country like you, Michaela and Kassia! They ought to be thanking you instead of being so rude, Kass! I hope it goes better for your Mom and Philip!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks for saying that! You know specially here in Framingham there is a very nasty group of people that does not like Brazilians... well, it's a sad thing... not that I think that every brazilian that lives here is a good person but in general they work a lot and don't bother people...

I hope it goes well for them on the 29th... it will be fun to go to their ceremony and see them becoming American! so neat!

Contrary to Michaela I would not mind to loose my brazilian citzenship... I am here anyway and have no plans to live in Brazil again... I pay taxes here, do volunteer work in my town and I think the earth around my house knows my name! so I better stay here!!!!

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

When I mastered the bandsaw in shop class, the teacher said I had "Do-All" citizenship.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, thanks Donnybrook - and everyone on DG. This has been very stressful - but it is amazing how quickly things work when you open up the cheque book :-)

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Kassia - We're happy that you are making this country your permanent home. We are blessed because of it! And Michaela - I hope the process with its stressful aspects doesn't make you want to change your mind! about dual citizenship!! Can't you just drop the "DG" card on them??? I can't imagine a better community of references!! LOL
