This thread's got it all: exotic places, nice people and now bathing beauties.
Sylvain.
Christi and Mike go Hawaiian!
hahahaha
I think the phrase is : Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Going to tour the other side of the island today. The wonders truly never cease.
Aloha
Kilikina
Hi Christi, wow, wow, I'm so happy for you!!! Looking for more pics. as you come home to the States...
Kim
Yaaayyyyy and all those worries for nothing, Christi!! Ain't that an experience, a dip in the Pacific Ocean...
He has shown you so much beauty in a few days!!! Imagine the rest of the world that you are yet to visit.
Jenny, you are THE perfect hostess.
So sorry to read of your plight... hope nothing's damaged. We'll pray for Christi's sun to shine over you, Robyn.
AH...my best angle!!! Only, it is too close up!
On that lovely dip...I managed to break my toe...agile me!!!! The surf looks flat, but it came up a bit fiesty and I took a fall and .... Christy tried to move some rocks with her knee...she bears the wounds proudly!!!
Our visit was SO much fun. Christy and Jenny are just as they seem...fun, interesting, loving, energetic....and their other halves the same!!!
Just got home last night...lots to do.... a hui hou...
Carol
Christi, so glad you finally made it there! It will change you forever - in a good way. I'm reliving my own experiences too. Those islands just don't leave you. :-) Enjoy every minute.
Kathleen
Such amazing stuff for us all to see and share with you!!! Sorry the two of you got injured, but definitely makes for a memorable experience! :o)
In the future you will be able to start each story going remember when you banged your knee and I broke my toe....
Hmm ,looks like Carol is dragging Christi out to the deep end!!!LOL
Christi has a most wonderful attitude: she has decided not to say NO to any adventure. So....we held hands and went out to her shoulder height (my waist...I am too tall by most standards) and we bobbed up and down in the incoming waves. She is SUCH a trooper and really was game to try nearly everything!!! We thought cliff diving down 250' would stretch her limits, so we didn't even suggest it!!!! What a neat lady!
Is there anywhere to snorkle in shallow water? That's something I'll never forget.
Tons of places to snorkle, we just haven't got to that yet! In fact at this time of year when you put your ears underwater you can hear the whale songs, it's really cool!
Christi and Mike did the Heavenly Road to Hana today, a whole days trip with lots to see so they are very tired tonight. I expect she will post in the morning.
Despite the accidents, we had a wonderful time meeting Carol and hanging out together, I wish you could all be here...
Aloha all.
Oh guys! Soooo much to tell. Just when I think I have seen the most beautiful thing in the world we go around a corner and there is the most beautiful thing in the world.
We are tired tonight but such a good tired. No way to ever tell you how great Jenny is and Carol is just the same. Seems I managed to injure everyone in the party when I fought the rocks. As Carol says, every story will begin with "the time I fought the rocks in Maui". I'm not dead yet and intend to try everything at every opportunity that presents itself. My middle name should be "grace". Graceful and coordinated I am not and continue to prove it over and over. A quitter I am most certainly not even when I know it is not my best suit.
We went to the "wet side" of the island today and the foliage is more than a jungle. Would you have expected pothos ivy to be ground cover, well it certainly is. Fern growing on the side of the cliff, diffenbachia growing 50 feet into the tops of the trees. All of these potted plants that I pamper just trying to keep them alive and truly weeds here. Sure has given me a different perspective on my own garden.
This is truly an Eden. I do believe if you have gardening tools with wooden handles, you should be careful where you choose to put them down because they may take root and grow.
Going to try to get some pictures posted asap.
Mahalo. Aloha
Princess Kilikina
(princess of quite a lot)
Louc, any chance of getting one of those 25ft tree ferns on the plane coming home!!!!LOL
The trick to bringing back one of those 25ft tree ferns resides in creative wrapping and hiding it in plain sight.
Make it look like a bowling ball or a surfboard and nobody will blink once when you check it in at the airport with the rest of your luggage. If anybody asks, tell them it followed you home. Don't blink, don't smile while saying that. It takes a bit of ractice.
Keep on having a wonderful time.
Sylvain.
Cliff Diving! I think that would give me a heart attack! :o)
Christi... that area around Hana is like where I live...wet and green!!! Glad you liked it...I am kinda partial to it too!!!!
Today ... what will you be doing????
I'm going to try to convince Jen that I really need to help in the garden. That is the truth. I believe we are going to a pageant tonight that depicts the story of Hawaii...more fun.
Just breathing deep is enough for me. Time is growing short for our stay and I am trying not to think about it.
For all of us who have ever fought the idiocyncrosies of a Ficus, here is the real thing.
The canopy probably covered a diameter of 50'.
Aloha,
Kilikina
From Lou-
Oh guys! Soooo much to tell. Just when I think I have seen the most beautiful thing in the world we go around a corner and there is the most beautiful thing in the world.
Just for the record I was nowhere NEAR Hawaii on the 19th!
Crissy and Lou, you crazy kids, I don't want you running around and talking to strangers, and I want you in at a decent hour! And for god sakes, would it kill you to call once in a while, just to let us know you're alive?
OK I'm jealous.Glad you're having fun!
Ha Ha! We are all jealous and enjoying their fun at the same time. Love the pics....want more!
Yokwe!
Christi...good news. The toe is NOT broken...just traumatized.
Hope your 'reentry' was painless...
Aloha nui loa,
Carol
*Waves* Hey Christi....am so glad you are having a blast soak up some sun for me....it rained today and it rained last week too....nice thing is though it helps make it easier to dig out more bamboo roots.
I hope you are taking lots of pictures to share at the get together in April!!
Miss ya but am glad you are enjoying yourself will talk when you get back
Hugs
Phyllis
Carol, so glad to hear you are not broken, just bent... You guys must had a ton-o-fun to be so happy-voiced even though you both got bumped around. I haven't been on-line much lately, but have been doing a lot of catch up reading today. Sounds like the visit was the hit we knew it would be. Waiting to hear more, and see more pics. You lucky island-hoppers you!
Yokwe,
Shari
Shari - and everyone -
Jenny and Frank are awesomely wonderful!!! Handsome, fit, interesting, active...it was a joy to be with them!!! Braveheart and Candy are terrific pups...a bit long in the tooth and lovely...loving. Jenny's Mom, Margaret, sounds just like Jen and looks more like her sister! Their lanai is large and comfy...palms growing up thru the deck (Jenny...you have to post photos!!!). Their home is comfy...well landscaped...very easy to be in and around. I feel very lucky to have met them (and that Texas gang of 2) and spent such great times with them.....
Oh my! (Blush, blush). Mom will be glad to hear that we look like sisters - not sure what that says about me as she is 81 years young - got to remember to wear sunscreen. LOL.
So glad to hear that the toe is not broken Carol, we certainly had a couple of mishaps in the Pacific that day! Wonder if it was the champagne - Nah!. We are missing Christi and Mike, but did hear from them that they had arrived home safely, although very tired. Christi says she is going to do a journal about her trip when she has time to catch her breath.
Hey you guys, we have to do this again, everyone welcome!
Aloha.
Oh, Carol. I am so glad you toe is not broken. Who needs that. I have to say that champagne will not cause one to break a toe. It relaxes you and when the toe hits something hard, it moves out of the way a little instead of resisting it. That results in a bruise. There is also an old fold tale that drunk drivers will get into horrible car accidents and walk out unscathed because of that effect, often yelling: "I'm OK!".
Christi, I can't wait to see that journal/thread of yours. Recover from your trip, unpack, get over the fact that you're not in Hawai'i any more. We're in no hurry but we are anxiously awaiting that thread.
I hereby move that we start planning right now to all get together in Hawai'i some time in the later part of 2009 (or earlier if you prefer). A crazy project is always good for morale and we could have such fun if we could get together. You pick the island, you pick the date and I'll be there. Such a loose time frame could give people time to shop for "affordable" air line tickets, get their calendars lined up, etc. OOOHHH, what fun that would be.
I have just got to get myself a hawai'ian name. Any suggestions?
Take care, all. Kisses to anyone who wants one.
Sylvain.
Arrived at our house about 3 PM yesterday and literally crashed. Long plane trip. I have no words for our experience. To say it was the time of our lives is an understatement. As Carol said, the family is terrific. Jen's mother is nothing short of drop-dead gorgeous. The beauty and the bounty is indescribable. Maui is sooo much more than I imagined. Will have to download pictures and organize in the journal area. Just got up out of bed to 33 degrees and brown and dreary. What a difference.
Carol glad your toe isn't broken. Seems I tried to drown Carol and Frank both. Athletic I am not. While trying to just stand still and look under the water with the snorkel, a huge wave hit and under I went dragging them with me. There were only two rocks on that portion of the beach and I fought with both of them. My knees look like a kid that fell off a bicycle, all scraped. Knowing that I am ill coordinated I determined that I would try everything. Disappointed to find that I am still uncoordinated.
Braveheart and Candy are two of the sweetest animals I have ever seen. First time to ever actually be around a Great Dane. Will have to get the pictures on-line...Braveheart turns and sits in your lap with his back feet off the ground and crossed just like a human being...so fun. Very, very loving.
Every single day was magic. Every moment stretched into two. We have had a life changing experience. This trip was sooo much more than a visit to the island. Will get pictures together on the journal.
Mahalo, Jenny
Aloha,
Forever Princess Kilikina
Welcome home, Christi. Just think I and DH could have joined in the trip with you. Sigh! I'll look forward to seeing your pics. and keep on dreaming.
Kim
LOL! When Christi says there are only two rocks on that beach she is not kidding, she found them both!
Glad to know you had a good time Christi, and I am looking forward to your visit Sylvain! I'll bet there isn't a Hawaiian word for polarbear - we'll have to give you a new one - how does "Kahuna" sound?
Wait until Mom hears that she is drop dead gorgeous!
Aloha
Oh, BHM, I don't know... Kahuna seems a bit pretentious. I think I'll go with Pu'ole Kanaka (shell man). I collect large sea shells, which I lug home at the end of every trip. Yeah, Pu'ole Kanaka has a nice ring to it. Does anybody object?
I found the people in Hawai'i to be beautiful, graceful and happy with themselves and their body, not like here where everyone can give you a list of 35 things that are wrong with their body and psyche. Hawai'ians seem to have an inner harmony that mainlanders have long ago repressed. Dr. Phil would have to close up shop if he were based in Hawai'i.
Ahola, y'all!
Sylvain, aka Pu'ole Kanaka
Oh My... We must avoid anything pejorative. Thanks for straightening my homeopatic hawai'ian. Pu'ole sounds good, doesn't it? I think I'll stick with that and try it on for size for a bit.
I love the photos. You guys look so happy.
Take care, all.
Pu'ole.
Guess I can't pretend to be young and blond anymore. hahahaha. Those were the days. Pu`ole is right about the people. Body beautiful, men and women. More importantly their souls are beautiful.
Kilikina
Christi we're all glad you made it home safely, but we are all just as disappointed that it was over so quick. The enjoyment from all your posts has been the highlights of our bleak and dreary days back here.
We missed you while you were gone, but celebrated with you being in such a beautiful place. It must truly be Eden. All of you are bubbling over with love and excitement and it has rubbed off on this Missouri gal. I must now try to get to the islands one day.
I am going to enjoy your journal.
Thanks
Glad you had a great trip and that you made it home safely. Now we need more pics!! :~)
Had to re-read this thread. I am such a lucky person. A wonderful time with Jen and her family and Carol with her daughter and grandson. And then to have all of you join in, well, what can I say? You give me very tender feelings and nothing is better than that. Someday, someday, we shall all enjoy this beautiful Eden together. Really don't want to cry but it is good tears. Those of happiness and joy. Every single minute was filled with unbounded joy! Jenny, Frank, Michael and Margaret (mom) are very special people. Like I had been in their family always. Well, guys, they will have a hard time getting out of my family, ever! No doubt at some time in another life, I was an islander. It all came back to me as I toured Maui. Once more I shall read James Michener's "Hawai`i."
The pageant we went to was so beautiful, so wonderful, so perfect, so exciting so, so, so. The English language is deficient when it comes to describing Maui.
I have used the term "Eden" and "Paradise"...Closest I can come to it. I am BLESSED! I do not deserve it. I want to go back now!
Princess Kilikina
LOL. I just love that pic!!
That picture reminds me of my friends great dane, Titus. He did that all the time. Titus thought he was a lap dog.
