We have one in our room (again, no cable), but it collects dust more than it gets used.
I'm baaack!
I h !ave one in yhe living roomand one in the bedroom.I find the TV ib the BR is as good as a sleeping pill
A two tv garage - wow.
hahahaha - i was wondering about that too!
We have one 27" TV in the living room and that's it. No cable. One DVD player. We don't want or need more. We have books, games, a dog, friends, homework, a treehouse, bikes, a yard... I think the computer is eating up all my time, though. I've been trying to shut it down and spend more quality time with my son. I started seeing him suffer from my lack of presence.
Michaela:
We have raised our children the same way, and I have three very responsible, very aware of their world, and very empathetic daughters.
The three little ones I take care of during the day are:
The 18-month-old (The Divine Miss "M")
The now 13-month-old (The Audacious Miss "A")
And the almost two-month-old (who isn't yet old enough to have a moniker attached).
... and they all live with me
Miss "A" and her little brother will be leaving this weekend for their new apartment.
I think Miss "M" will be getting lonely, but I'm sure that grandma will spend a bit more time with her to make up for the loss of her cousin.
I am guilty of a TV in our bedroom and it gets used daily. DH has spent months at a time in that room over the last 5 years so the TV was a must. DS got a cell phone for Christmas his Senior year of HS...he was 18 and had less than 6 months of school left.
I'm not so crazy about the cell phones, though my kids don't have any yet. Quite a few kids already had them in first and second grade! For safety and knowing where they are, I think it's okay once they are middle school age. There are options where they can only call / received specified numbers. That's what I would probably choose.
My neighbor's 8 year old son (going on 40) has a cell phone with several numbers programed onto it. He just started taking the city bus from school down to the corner of our street and his parents are a nervous wreck about him walking down the street. He has his grandmother's phone number, mine and two other neighbor's numbers (plus his parents work numbers) so in an emergency he should be able to get one of us. A cell phone in this case is a good idea - at least it gives his parents a little peace of mind! Eleanor
In many families the cell phone is as much to the parents advantage and peace of mind as it is a convenience.JOY
Yes - you just can't let the kids go nuts with it. Older teens should have to pay for their own.
My 15-yr-old actually doesn't want a cell phone. (She has phone phobia - Asperger's.) I got myself one a few years ago so the girls would have the peace of mind knowing they could always be in contact with me.
