OK, because I don't have any "real life" girlfriends *lol* I thought I would ask my friends here for their HONEST opinions.
I have naturally CURLY hair. Lately I have discovered a new toy called a flat iron.
I have been straightening my hair but am not quite sure if I look better leaving it natural or going to the straight look.
Besides being a couple years older and gaining quite a bit of weight over this winter *lol* Which hairdo do you all like better?
Me "naturally"
Totally Off Topic But Your Opinions Matter To Me :)
I think changes and options are fun! I'd say straighten it when the mood strikes you, but honestly, I love your curls. It may just be that my own hair is stick-straight (you always admire what you don't have, LOL), but I can't imaging fussing with a flat iron on a regular basis when you can just run your hands through your curls and come away with that wonderful "gamine" look!
Besides, with your eyes, your smile, that great sparkle... I think you could shave your head and *still* be a knockout!
AWWW Jill, you are really making me blush but I wanted a "curly is the best look on you" or "straight all the way" kind of answer girlfriend *lol*
Brutally honest.........like.........OMG, curly makes your face look fatter or.......straight makes your head look square.......you know kind of like "you have a booger on your nose" honest answer *lol*
You are SUCH a sweetheart dancing around the brutal truth *lol* I LOVE it! , I don't have any "life" friends but guess what?..........I might just have found myself one (and maybe more).
I am attending a meeting on Friday with a lady who is TRYING to put together the FIRST Maine AV Group! I asked if it's OK that I don't grow AV's but other gessies and she said that was OK! I'm SO excited about it.
Of course I will NEVER ask them which hairdo they like better but.........they will be real life ladies!!! *lol* I'm SO excited........REAL LIFE ladies!!! *lol*
Kim
Well, I really like the look of your new hairdo around your forehead and your eyes... but there's something about the way the layers curve in toward your face that just isn't setting off your cheekbones quite right, I think. I've been trying to figure out what I think is working or not working about it... I don't think it's a question of straight or curly, I think there's just something about the cut that is not framing your face as well as it could... try taking all the layers that fall lower than the corners of your mouth, and pull them back... either just clip the hair at your nape, or see if you can put it into a loose up-to, maybe with one of those big butterfly clips...
I'm really pretty clueless when it comes to shorter hair styles, so I'm hoping somebody with more beauty school expertise comes by this thread soon!
Oh, and it's so cool that you've got an AV/Gessie society forming... I think you're going to have a ball at Friday's meeting! Those ladies are going to adore you!!
Kim-Just an opinion of a lurker. I think the curly hair makes you look younger and prettier.
JMOHO Lou
Yeah, I have a preference for her curls, too... but I figured she was having fun experimenting... and I was trying to figure out why I wasn't liking her new "do" quite as well...
Curly ... definitely! But, it's really hard to pick one ... you look great with both styles! I would say use the flat iron when you are in the mood for straight hair and let it go natural when you feel like being curly!
Now Kim, it's hard to believe with that smile and the sparkle in those eyes that you don't already have real life girlfriends! You have a great on line personality so I know in person it must be even better! Have a great time at the meeting on Friday ... hope you make some interesting friends and have fun!
.... oh, I was one born with the stick straight hair too, and ALWAYS wanted curls! Years ago I would have perms every so often to get those curls but then one time I ended up with a bad perm .... my hair ended up dry, brittle and falling out! That was 1985 and I haven't had a perm since! I do have hot rollers but haven't used them in years. When I worked I would sometimes go with the wavy look and set my hair but unfortunately it didn't hold curl or waves for long .... with the humidity down here my hair goes flat in a very short time! So, I am almost 60 years old with long, straight bleached blonde hair! I haven't seen my natural color in so many years I'm not exactly sure what color that would be ... just that it has a lot of grey!
My best friend has super natural curly, frizzy hair. Four or five years ago she paid an exorbitant amount of money to have her hair chemically straightened ... it doesn't last very long - now she uses one of those flat irons. She always wanted straight hair but hates the time it takes to use that flat iron but does it almost every day!
Awhile back someone began a thread with us all posting our picture to put a face to the user name ... maybe it's time to do that again!
My hair won't even bend with a curling iron, so just how do you think I am going to vote!!!!!!!! Curls all the way.......If I had curls I would wash my hair and run my hands through my hair and take off for the day (like Critter said).....
My vote is for the curls!
OK I must be the oddball but I honestly LOVE it straight!!.But heck..ya know what Kim,? Curly,Straight, even with a booger on your nose you would still be a cute as a button : )
OMG Nancy! LOL...I'm glad I was sitting when I was reading this.I would have fell on the floor laughing.Your just to funny girl!
I love the curls. I agree, you look younger, though you look great in both pictures. If you use the iron too much, it is not good for your hair, so keep it healthy. It is darling all curly and girly!
You are all JUST THE GREATEST!
I KNEW I could count on you all :)
I agree, leaving it curly is MUCH easier that's for sure but when it's curly the texture is SO rough and dry and frizzy.
When I straighten it I get this smooth kind of feel and I have ALWAYS wanted that.
I have been wearing it curly the past couple of days (doing a deep conditioning) and this morning hubby said "are you going to straighten your hair today"? I think he was hinting that he likes it straight. I know he plays with it much more because it's softer when it's straight.
I do agree with Jill though, I'm not sure about the cut.
I also notice that when I straighten it, I don't have any "body" to it and miss that.
Guess I will probably stay curly most of the time and straighten it for special occasions.
I can't thank you all enough for your honesty :)
Yes, I am VERY excited about this new AV Club. I said to hubby "are you sure you don't mind me going out once a month with the ladies" and he was very supportive of me going so I'm WICKED excited.
Nope Lin, not one single "real life" girlfriend *lol*. It has just been me, hubby and my kids for most of my life *lol*. I have always found that when I try to talk to people, I want to talk plants. I'm not a "how's the weather" kind of chat person. I would rather be playing with my plants or in the garden than carrying on a "how's the weather" conversation with someone *lol*. I find that once I start talking plants that I lose the persons interest and their eyes glaze over and they get that "I don't really care" look so I just avoid any human contact as much as possible *lol* I HATE social gatherings more than anything. I would rather be in my back yard either in my bathing suit, shorts, nightgown *lol* or housedress *lol* working in the garden and squatting when need be *lol*. I am country farmer girl I say *lol*.
I'm not good with "real life" friends because it seems like anytime I have tried to have a friendship, the person wants more of my time than I am willing to share or take away from my plants and family so I keep my friendships to online as I can chat when I feel like chatting and withdraw when I need to :)
You ladies are the best!!! Thank you again!
Kim
NANCY, NANCY, NANCY!!! You're posting again!!!!
Does this mean your back with us "full time" now girlfriend? Oh Goodness I sure hope so!!!!
Please don't tell us you're just teasing us *lol*
Kimber
Kim, deep conditioning is good! Have you ever tried a product called "Frizz Eeeze" (something like that... pun type spelling on Frizz Ease vs Frizzies, LOL)... ? It's this clear stuff, just a tiny amount (dime sized) spread through your hair makes it really incredibly soft. My hair doesn't frizz (straight, remember, LOL), but I still love it for the silky feel and shine it gives.
For Friday, go with whatever hairstyle makes you feel more confident -- whether that's the curls you're more used to or the straight style you're having fun with. It's not your hair people will notice; it's your smile and your spirit!
Kim,
Love the soft curls and how they surround that beautiful face and that smile...worth a million. Go curls! BUT, as mentioned above, it's fun to be able to change a hairstyle by just simpley straightening it. My two older girls do it all of the time. Have fun.
Laura
This is just waaay too funny on a gardening site. But.......we are girls so we get to talk about beauty, too! Right? Right!
Hey, comments from the guys would be welcome too, I'm sure!
It didn't take me any time at all to figure out that Dave's is way more than a gardening site... :-)
Hi Kim
Ok I have naturally curly hair too. And of course would love straight stick hair! It takes me FOREVER to straighten my hair as it is also thick and long. SO I kinda do a semi-straight kind of thing and tame with a large barrel curling iron. I like your hair both ways too--sorry! But it sure is nice to put your sweet smiling face with your posts and see who I've been talking to!
Diane
Kim,
I had straight hair for years, and then as I got older, it got REALLY CURLY!! My biggest issue is that I tend to go ninety to nothing and not get my hair all the way dry, so I am trying to do better with that to avoid the frizzies. As Jill suggested, try one of the products to tame your hair some. The one I use is Redken's Smooth Down. It has really helped a lot.
As far as what I like best on you - no brainer - I love the curls!! The straight look is good, too, for a more formal look.
Sharon
Kim
I really like both the styles you look really great. As you said though you wood do on speacil times. You know I have very stright hair and I wood love to have curls and I can if I want to get a perm and look like a French poodle, So I am happy with my hair,
I was thinking after you strighten you hair maybe you can put some curls in with hot rollers or a curling iron big its alot of work but that might put height in it.
Dimmer(AKA) Kim
You ladies really tickle me. : )
They have given me the giggles, too, begoniadude 'cause I am so old I haven't thought about my gray hair in a while (LOL)
LOL, Gail. Some days I feel 60, some days I feel 90! But, I still think about my gray hair every time I look in the mirror and see I need a dye job! I'm just lazy ... even though it only takes me 30 minutes or so to color my roots and wash it out it seems the older I get the longer I put it off. Sometimes hubby notices and will make a comment about my gray roots showing! Usually for him to notice, I have gone too long between touch ups! I've thought about dying my hair red ... always wanted red hair! Hubby will really think I've lost it if he comes home and finds a red head!
Oh Kim, you look so cute with curls, and the straight do is dressier. Either way your haircut is cute on you.
Cindy
My roots are shining silver right now!
Oh Gail ... if my natural color could be a shiny silver I would let it grow out! My gray unfortunately is a dirty, dull gray just like my dear Mom's was. And, I remember how she hated it and always wanted a pretty silver or white. My dear MIL had the most beautiful white, white hair!
Aaaah ... we always want just the opposite of what we have, huh? I would love curly, curly, silver, Shirley Temple type hair!
I would settle for any color if I had curls! I keep saying I am going to let it all turn gray and then I look in the mirror and convince myself that I am not really 65+!!!
curly definately, i have curly hair to & a flat iron, is'ent it fun to play with, get some chi shine infusion & spay some on before you use the flat iron, then watch,it even changes the texture. it's fun to see what you can do.i use my flat iron all the time, making my bangs only stright, the rest is curly.
mrsbonnie
I like that idea! Have you tried using it to tame just your bangs and a few sections to help frame your face, then letting the rest of the curls do what they will?
LOL Now I feel like we're collectively playing with Kim's hair, like she's one of those hairstyle Barbie dolls... :-)
(I was too much of a tomboy to pay much attention to my dolls as a kid... but I'm enjoying this!)
Uh oh, Kim ... better watch out or we may end up cutting and pasting different hair-do's on your picture to see what you'd look like.
Hmmm ... I see a short "pixie" style, or maybe a page boy with that little flip at the bottom! You would be Beautiful with any hairstyle, but I think you look just perfect with your natural curls! Aaaaah ... to have some of those waves and curls, and those big eyes and those great cheekbones ... that Smile! Some people have all the luck and Yes, I am jealous!
LOL Critter ... I was a tomboy growing up too. I had more fun building forts with my brothers than playing with dolls. I think one of my three sisters was kinda tomboyish too, for a short while. I did grow out of that phase for the most part. Had to dress professionally during my working years ... nowadays I'm an older lady with my hair in a pony tail most of the time, no makeup, shorts, t-shirt and flip flops - although this morning I'm in jeans and a sweatshirt! Hubby checked at 6:30 this morning and it was 36 degrees outside! I had no idea it was going to get that cold, news said 45 was going to be our low! I left all my plants outside! Hope the orchids and hoyas didn't suffer. It was still 38 degrees at 8:30 but has finally warmed up to 41. We aren't supposed to get out of the 60's today and it's supposed to be low to mid 40's tonight. I think I will move a lot of plants inside, just in case it gets colder than predicted! I swear we can never trust weather reports!
This has been alot of fun ladies :)
Lately I have been letting it just be curly. I haven't tried straightening it and then using a curling iron. I LOVE that idea :)
I knew I had brought this dilemma to the right group of friends :)
Ladies.....I want to wish each and every one of you a Very Happy Valentine's Day!
We will be going on a "date" Saturday night (was going to be Friday night but I have my FIRST AV Group meeting *woo, hoo*) and I think I will try the straightening and then curling iron idea with the "frizz ease"
Maybe I will do an updated picture *lol*
Thank you all so much for your honest opinions :) It's so nice to have a "girlfriends" advice.
Kimber
Straight is very nice I think.
Kim- Have fun!
But be careful with the Frizz-Ease stuff. I have used the liquid spray of it and if it gets on my skin or my hair rubs my face it gives me a rash. But I'm kind of sensitive to some oily stuff . Anyway - just a little warning ; )
I like the curls too Kim!
Shanika
Shanika!
Wow, we need to ask eachother's opinions more often, it really brings all of us girlfriends together :)
This is awesome!
Thank you so much my friend :)
Kim
I see it with blonder hilights (spelling) and a little trim.
