Hi Terri, Did you feel the earthquake?

Coffs Harbour, Australia

Hi all, It's just beginning to storm. I have a few emails and things to do tonight, but will catch up with you lot later if I can and fill you in.
Sue

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Terri and Sue, hope all is well in your part of the world.

Coffs Harbour, Australia

I'm back. My father in law was diagnosed with throat cancer about 2 years ago. He undertook radiation and Chemotherapy. The opperation was a complete success and he was sent home with a feed tube until his throat healed. 18 months later, after numerous visits to the quack, and constant assurances that there is no return of the cancer, even though he was suffering excruciating headaches and still couldn't eat, they said "Whoops" you still have cancer! I don't know how or why, but it has had 18 months to grow and he underwent an opperation from 8am yesterday until 1.30am this morning. They removed his voice box and most of his tongue, and at this stage, don't know if he will ever eat again, or if he has enough tongue to form words through an electronic device.
He's the lovliest old bloke (70) and apparently is doing well, conscious, but not yet aware as to the extent of the surgery. So in a nutshell, I have to ring/email some people with the news, as it all happenede pretty quickly. I know you will all send your best wishes, and those that pray, feel free to do so. I'll be back in the Cafe probly Saturday, as Dh has been away all week down in Sydney with his Dad, and gets home tomorrow, so i can't very well be playing on the puta now can I?
See you all soon
Sue

Hi All!

Terri, No, we still didn't make a color wheel or use complimentary colors. But is still on my agenda. I'll send you pictures when we do it.

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Adele, yes its a 2 week project really, thanks for letting me know.

Happy weekend everyone!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Hi, still not up yet. Looks like it will be the first of next week. More later (at the library right now). I am going everywhere to use the internet. LOL.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Howdy!

Well, I have come to the conclusion that I am a jinx. NO JOKE! I believe someone has put a curse on me.

Today, I went with another DGer to the Nashville Lawn and Garden show. WOW, was it fantastic!! I got a banana tree, corkscrew rush, my first named Daylilies, my first named Irises, some air plants to use in a terrarium, Black Magic elephant ears, passion vine and who knows what else. More on that later.

I also found a little antique store vendor who was selling pins/frogs (which I read in a floral arrangement book that they are called both). I bought a medium sized one about 4" in diameter. It is very heavy and well made. I also bought pussy willow and I believe corkscrew willow is the name of the other. Sounds great, no?

I drop the other DGer off at his car and get back on the interstate. Standstill!! Not a car was moving. So, I called another DGer friend of mine. Right as I was telling her what I did today BAM, I am hit from behind.

Now let me tell ya, I am driving one of my father's construction trucks. It is an extended cab, utility truck with three tool boxes and a ladder rack....pretty tough. The entire truck bed is warped, as the car that hit me went UNDER mine. I have been in my share of accidents, but never been hurt. Not so lucky this time. I was sitting still and the car that hit me was going 75 to 80 miles per hours, per her admission. I thought I was ok until I collapsed from dizziness. When she hit me, my air bag did not go off and my chin smacked the steering wheel. I got my first ambulance ride. To end this part, I am ok and she is ok. They were very worried as I...um....ralphed and my blood pressure dropped. I am pretty sore and ended up with a strained neck, which is basically whiplash. I am on drugs right now, but am I gonna hurt tomorrow!!

BUT here is the worst part. I say this with all sincerity, the MORON state trooper, whilst I laid on the ground, said he needed my proof of insurance. WHAT!! DO YOU SEE ME ON THE GROUND?!?! The ambulance comes and they neck brace and IV me. While in the ambulance, the same MORON had my truck towed without asking if I needed anything out of it. Firstly, my house key would have been nice!! Secondly, um......the TROPICAL plants I bought that day would have been great since it is getting down into the low 30's!! Thirdly, he STILL gave me a ticket for not getting my insurance card to him. I asked him how I could, lying in the ambulance with no truck in site. He said that was my problem. NICE!! So, to end this sad tale, which has become laughable to me, I had to break a small window to unlock my door and get inside.

Terri, I was at the hospital and my best friend, Ted, came to stay with me. He brought his laptop for me to use and I tried THREE times D-mail this to you. I was so drugged up, I failed all three times. Ted was rolling!!

Sorry so long, but I had to share this with friends who would truly understand the main complaint, not the injuries or the ticket, but the PLANTS!! I will never forgive officer MORON for that injustice!!

P.S. Took pics with my camera phone. When I figure out how to e-mail them, I will give you all a good laugh!!

Coffs Harbour, Australia

Oh Pupil, you poor thing! What an "A"hole that officer is! I'd write a letter of complaint to the department!
I hope you are o.k in the long term. Thank goodness for drugs!
So have you seen your plants? Did you manage to get someone to save them for you? I sure hope so!
My Mum is gas bagging to me on the phone as I write this. I can't get a word in, and its all crap anyway, but I suppose I should actually listen instead of just saying, "yeah", "yes" "uh-huh" and so on.
I hope you feel better soon, and make sure you write that letter!
Sue

I won't get the poor things until this afternoon. I know there was potting soil all in the floor board. I don't think it will be a pretty sight! Some friends of mine in a band wrote a song, "Thank god for the Pills" and I AGREE!!

I was LMAO when I read your post, Sue. I thought you were talking about the flower MUM. Took me a second. I mean I talk to my plants, but I sure don't call them on the phone.

My poor plants!!

Florence, AL

Traci, why didn't you call me, I could have come to you. OMG

london England, United Kingdom

Oh Traci, Thank goodness you are ok, So Sorry to hear all that terrible ordeal you have been through.
Hi Sue, nice to see you and hear all is well.
Back later ...

Oh it's Mother's Day here, do you have that in America today?

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all the MUMS in the world!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Well Happy Mum's day to those overseas. Yes we have Mothers Day here , but it not until May 11th.

I would not pay that ticket for sure. I would go to court and tell the judge how crazy that officer was, you were the injured party bein taken in ambulance and he wants insurance card. How dumb!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7a)

Happy Mother's Day!

Traci, Get well soon!

Does anybody know what this plant is?

Hi star and Adele, Thankyou!
I had a lovely day, breakfast in bed, with an arrangement of garden forsythia which was cellotaped together, funny!!
coffee's all day, no moaning! nice roast dinner cooked by hubby and friends came to visit with their two kids.

Adele, it looks a bit like a fushia leaf, but I couldn't be 100% sure.

Get well soon Traci!
Sue, snap on the Mum thing! What is that beautiful white flower?

Coffs Harbour, Australia

Hi all,
Happy mothers day Terri, it's on the second sunday in may in Australia, so you'll have to celebrate it without us. Did you get some nice flowers?
My white flower is Kahili ginger. It smells gorgeous!
Hi Adele, I don't know what your plant is either, but it sure has a good size root on it!
Hi Star, how the weather for you? Is it warming up yet?
Hi Pupil. I hope you're feeling better, or at least not running out of drugs! LOL. Yeah, i talk to my plants too, but my Mum rings once in awhile and I never get a word in! I don't know why she bothers.
I might try to get my little flower arrangement done in the morning. I haven't had much time for anything while I'm working a REAL job. LOL.
I'll be back on tomorrow.
See ya!

Sure missed all the happenings while at the cabin for 24 hours. A lot sure happens overnight.
Traci, what a horrible chain of events. I would certainly argue the ticket if you have the opportunity. Just remember how well I said my forsythia did after that one year of trauma, so am thinking your plants probably have all been traumatized into a wonderful year of blooms for you to enjoy and that will be the upside to all of this having happened.
Mum's day down your way. Sounds like you had an enjoyable one "breakfast in bed" is always a wonderful treat.
Hoping to soon have poseys in our gardens to share but for now enjoy seeing all of yours.

london England, United Kingdom

Hi everyone,
I have had a busy week so far! Hope you are all keeping well.
Traci, hope you are on the mend and get your internet back on soon!

Sue,
Your ginger is really beautiful! What is the white flower in your last picture?!
I told the girls not to buy me any of the rip off bouquets or basket arrangements that the shops were stocking before mothers day. The fancy wrapping and bows just distract you from the fact that there are hardly any flowers in them.
They gave me a little Hydranga plant! It is in a tiny pot, I need to buy some erecacious compost and re-pot it.
For now I put it in a little basket with some of our rabbits hay to hide the pot.
We missed you at the flower club, hope you can make it with your miniature before we move on to the next theme!
(tomorrow).

Hi Terri, sorry i haven't been around. I've been run off my feet! It's 9.30pm and I'm having my first sit down, even though I still have alot to do. It'll all be there tomorrow
The little white flowers are some kind of water lily, I forget the name. When they are fully open, they look like little fluffy white stars! Really cute.
I made some banana and date muffins for the cafe today. Enjoy (I did)

At this time of morn those muffins and my welcome cup of java are mighty nice welcomes! Thanks for sharing, I'll be back when I have finished sipping, nibbling and daydreaming. Oops, forgot I am at work!
Candee

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Ah fresh muffins! ( hides my piece of cold wheat toast under plate edge and helps myself to warm muffins) : ) Thanks.

digger it too hard to see in the pic th eexact shape and color of the leaves. Can ya get a better pic maybe standign back from it so it's colors come out and shape clearier. Without gettign a good see, looks almost like an ajuga, but can't say for sure at all without better pic. If it is an ajuga it good for butterflies and , soil retion and such and they uite expensive little plants to buy.

The past four days it been sweat runnign down into your eyes and face days and today we back to sweaters, ski hats and shiverign and gonan get worse for the weekend, back into the teens, so i gotta go to store later and get more plastic to make mini hoop houses to try and protect what all coming up again.

If they ain't frozen gonna go out and collect a small bouet for the cafe, cuz they sure aint gonan be alive after sunday night.

Did get some happy news yesterday. Some Dahlia tubers I ordered wil be arrivign tommorrow. Yah ho can't wait to give them a try.

Everybody have a good day. : )

Hi all,
Sue, those Banana muffins look delicious! Thankyou! How do you have time to bake? sounds like you are rushed off your feet this week.
I haven't seen a water lily like that before, your plants are so different, love the 'swamp'!!

Hi Candee, nice to have you here for your morning break at the cafe. I don't have a computer at work, good job really!!

Hi Star, Poor you coping with the up and down weather and all your plants, it must be hectic. What Dahlias have you ordered?
I think you have Adele's plant! it could be Ajuga, I was thinking it could be Beginia, they do have those tubers.Hope you know what it is because Adele's mystery plant is bugging me!!
I really hope your flowers don't get frozen.

Hi Adele, hope you find out what your plant is!
Get well soon Traci, miss you!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7a)

Good morning all,
Terri, I think you and Star are correct. I looked at images of ajuga and it looks just like the plant I have growing at the club.
Star, Thank you!! I will let it live and flourish.
Sue, Are those muffins still available? Did you put walnuts in also? Yum.
