I am so sorry mcamden...but I am glad that you looked and shared what you saw. A couple of the books I am reading say that rotting eggs can give off gases that are harmful to the unhatched chicks. Maybe that is what happened? I know that I will have a hard time removing eggs that may have died, if I am not absolutely certain. The eggs I am planning to incubate are all brown and some may even be speckled, so I will probably have a very hard time candling them. I forgot what you were using to candle....did you buy a candler or make one?
Cont. Homemade bator (thread was getting too long)
Most of my eggs were brown as well, and with very thick shells. I was also affraid to remove any that I was not sure were bad. I did remove the ones the first 2 weeks that looked bad...but the 3 or 4 that did not develop stopped at the end of week 2. I was affraid to remove them just in case as well. I guess I learned my lesson. None of my first batch went bad...so that would make sense. I will take better care next time and risk the few to save the many.
I used a maglight that was zoomed to have a narrow stream of light. THen I put a partially empty roll of electric tape over the lens...then a couple layers of foil over that with just a pen hole in the middle. The tape roll was the perfect size to cradle the egg, and made it so no light escaped from around the shell. I used two lights (one shining from each end of the egg) for the darker/thicker eggs.
Aw, I'm sorry to learn they developed so far and didn't make it.
I have been reading, too, and can't find anything on fully formed but
no hatch. As with my 6th, fully formed, but no pip. But, I had no
rottens to give off gas, so I am puzzled as well. I hope we can
find someone to answer this. :o)
Truest, are you finished with princess tammy? I notice you haven't been posting anything new lately.
Still a lady in waiting, granny, but I've lost all my points so
they can't take any away either. LOL I am like you, on dialup,
and you have to be very quick to catch other's mistakes and then
copy and paste a link, then d-mail the princess with the error.
To gain those points, you have to surf the threads for the other
ladies in waiting and find errors. It becomes very laborious for
me, and kind of saps the fun. So, I am kind of taking a break.
What I do like about it is sending the Princess of the month
cards, packets of seeds, candles, chocolates and other tokens
they may like. That I can keep up with. :o)
Okay, I get it...something like I am doing with a "secret sister" from our church. We do from our quilting club, although you don't have to be a member of the club. And, it is for a year. Right now I am doing up an Easter basket for mine. Went shopping yesterday and bought some stuff for it. Had a ball!
Fun of this one is that I got the same lady I had last year. And she is a sweetie! I am going to have lots of fun doing things for her again this year. (she has a green thumb with flowers)
Well, I hope you can get the new points next month so you can keep on playing the game. And.....you never know, some day we MAY be able to get a faster way of playing. I was having fun just reading your posts to the princess. I may never join in, but still it is fun reading them.
I like your idea, too. I just love picking up little 'niceties' for
the princess, when I'm out shopping for other things. The
princess changes every month, and the games weekly. This
week it is always must have one of these in your post :o)
somewhere, and never forget to give accolades to the princess.
One game was catching spelling errors, which was fun, but
slow for me. Another game was never forget to use italics in a
sentence, so you have a good idea. The very nicest thing, is
all of us send tokens to her highness throughout her month of
reign.
may princess tammy receive all she dreams of. :-)
But, I'm bad...didn't pick up cellophane to wrap around the easte basket for her. Now I will probably have to use plain old plastic wrap. Oh, and also don't have a big bow for it either. Well, we have to go to our large town in a couple of weeks for an eye doctor appt, so will be able to get to Wally-world. Just checked the calendar...don't have to have this for a few more weeks.
BTW, where do you join in the fun?
Aha! you are curious! It is really mayhem over there, and
there is never a dull moment (well, maybe late in the day)
and plenty of fun. It's in the Parking Lot Forum, title 'February
Princess monthly mayhem Simon Says'. Be sure to wear your
'big girl' panties when you go over! LOL (you'll find out) :o)
may princess tammy walk with big girl panties and carry
a big stick.
HE HE HE HE HE :o)
LURKER!!! :o)
may princess tammy find what she's looking for! tee hee.
Yep, dat be me! :o) But not for long, gotsta sleep! ♥
bump!
Bumpity Bump Bump....
morning dusty
who wants to request part two get stickied, and the chat get edited out?
I will sustain whoever wants to do it. They really belong together.
Definitely some good stuff in here. And some worth editing out.
Just dont remove the chicken hat! hahaha...that thing really is hilarious!
if that happens every one will have to pay realy close attention to put the chat in the chicken chat thread (i know i cant talk i do it as well LOL) as there would be less room
i went through and edited out some of my posts. it still takes up the space for my name though...
i will do it tomorro night
