Cool! I'll shoot you a d-mail so I don't have to scrounge around for your address. Thanks! I'd trade you something but I don't think I've got anything you don't have now!

Deb, I'm awaiting for the pods to ripen, so I can mail to everyone at one trip to the p/o. Here is a thread on my brugs' seedpods.

Great job on the Brugs Kim! I just love them!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

deb, are these gone? i had some old seeds from 2 yrs. ago but none of them germinated. i tried the 'tray in the baggie on top of the refrigerator' method. lol. i'd offer a trade but i doubt i have anything you could use.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

It's okay Barbara! Just send me an envelope, I have plenty left.

Murphy, TX(Zone 8a)

Deb,

I'm doing the bottom-heat method. They're planted in a perlite-peat mix, and have a slitted plastic cover. No germination yet. It's been a week. Should I worry, or wait?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

thank you deb. and you really just direct sow them? when? now?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Just wait, they are sub-tropical and can take a bit.

Barbara, some people have good success with the baggie method, my SIL puts them on top of her refrigerator on a paper plate with tissue, keeping them moist.

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm going to use the "baggie method". It takes all the guess-work out of seeds for me. I hate staring at dirt and wondering! I cut coffee filters in half, moisten them with distilled water, stick them inside a baggie and tape them to my sunny bathroom window. Luckily, this window isn't seen from the street because people would wonder WHAT was going on! lol

..all that happens once I get my seeds...and my envelope should be there in a few days Deb! :) (it would have been faster for me if I had just driven there...lol) Speaking of, I'm working off of Hwy 10 now so you'll have to let me know if Green Mama's gets anything I just have to have this year.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

"i hate staring at dirt"....the mental image just cracked me up. lol

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

You don't have time to crack up. You have gazillions of mums to worry about.

But then, you don't have to worry about CALLAS.

%&*#@# %^@!!!!!!!!!!!! and besides that yall can just take those callas and....

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

I put 6 seeds in a moist paper towel and secured that in a ziploc bag a week ago. It's been sitting under my work counter light every day. This morning I snuck a peek and one seed is showing wee signs of growth. Fingers crossed! :-)

Carla

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Great Carla! They just need warmth, moisture, air and light. If any of you have problems and need more seeds, just send me another envelope and I will send another packet.

Kim I am sending yours out today... I forgot we were trading instead of the sase... forgive me please,. :-o (Was caught up in another project here.)

It works out just fine, Deb. (my seedpods are now ripe) I'll be sending mine out today as well.
Happy gardening, was well as birding, and butterflying. :-)

Murphy, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey, Deb. The first seedling poked its head up this morning.

Do you have transplant instructions? I know they like lots of sun, but don't know about watering, kind of soil, time to plant, etc. My climate should be almost identical to yours.

Murphy, TX(Zone 8a)

Second seedling has appeared!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Congrats DD; I would keep the seedlings until they have a couple pairs of true leaves before I use a rounded spatula-like and gently transplant them into their individual 4" cups. A tongue-depressor instead of a spatula will do too, take care not to disturb the young plant. Hold the seedling by the leaves if at all possible (not the stems - they are fragile). Water them gently and keep them in sunny location before you acclimate them to the outdoor when weather permits....by gradually increasing sun light hours in increments.
Pardon for the run-on sentences. I hope that helps.

Deb, My seeds arrived today. Thank you very much. Yours are in transit and they should be there soon. I'm so happy thinking about all the Sulphers b.f. that will visit my garden in spring/summer.
Kim

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes Kim you will definitely get Sulphur Butterflies this year! :-)

I am so glad to see people's seedlings popping up already! Just don't put them out until all danger of frost is past, and harden off first. Meaning : Put them outside in a semi-shady place part of the day for a few days, then gradually introduce them to the full sun. They do like their fair share of water, it helps them grow stronger and bloom better in late summer and all fall long.

Some folks don't like plants that are a lot of trouble to grow, but after you have one of these candletrees in all their glory, you will be certain they are worth any extra care just to have in your garden.

******

I still have more seeds if anyone still wants some, just send me an envelope or just a stamp, I will send the seeds back as soon as I receive a stamp or an sase.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Debnes, I suspect that I soaked the seeds for way too long because nothing is happening.
May I have some more seed. I can send another SASE today.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Sure Betty, no problem at all! Happy to!

That goes for anyone else... need more seed? Just send another sase.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Debbie, I'll mail it today when I go into town.

Murphy, TX(Zone 8a)

Okay, Debbie, you convinced me. I'm sending another SASE. :)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Great!! I just want to make sure everyone here gets some plants going, whatever it takes. :-)

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Deb, you're sooooooo wonderful!!! Thank you, thank you. I think mine gonna be fine. Have your receive yours? I soaked mine over night and sowed them with the coffee-filter method this time, will see how they turn out.

All the seeds that I sowed came up very quickly. They were on a seedmat in potting mix in a 4" pot. They are under lights now and are about 1 1/2" tall and looking great! Thanks so much, Deb.
Annie

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Kim! Keep us posted! :-)
Awesome Annie!
The seed mat is a superior way to sow the semi-tropical or tropical seeds! I am using a reptile mat I got at petco for around $9 lol! . It's probably not as ideal as the seed mats, but it does provide bottom heat for starting seeds like this until I do get one.

The best deals I've seen for the real-deal seed mats are at Park Seed.
Very cool that you have one Annie, those things sure make sowing a lot more efficient!

(Annie ) in Austin, TX(Zone 8a)

Park Seed is where I got mine. Supposedly people say that Lowes carries them for a good price at the start of seed sowing season, but I could never find one. If they go on sale, I sure could use a couple more. I start a lot of seeds....addict, I know.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

For those of us that getting ready to sow brugmansia seeds for the first time. Avoid heat mat on this type of seeds. It doesn't work. I sow mine in my basement greenhouse, the temp. is barely in the low 60's And they do just fine there. Experienced brugs grower stated that heat mat will ruin your brug's seeds. Mine didn't need it, and germinated shortly 10-14 days after sowing.
