Do Echinacea seeds come true to color?

Mesilla Park, NM

I've collected seedheads from the yellow and the orange flowered Echinacea plants here and they seem to have seeds in them, some do and some do not, anyway. I was wondering if they orange and or the yellow flowered varieties come true.

Any help is appreciated. Also, is there an easier way to remove the white seeds from the shaff? I mixed them all up both the yellow and the orange. I was going to direct sow, but am getting some germination on the purple and white varieties, so I thought about trying these.

Thank you for your help.l

I'm no expert but the newer cultivars that are all the rage (Sunset, Sunrise etc) are not likely to look like the parent plant since they are hybids. I think that is also why seed production is hit or miss as well. The old standards are likely the only varieties to come true from seed. Paradoxa is a yellow that will come true if I'm not mistaken. I purchased some of the seeds from the newer plants from someone on eBay knowing they won't be exactly like the $15 a quart true hybrids, but I just want to see what they will produce.

dmac085 please let us know how your hybrids turn out. I have Sundown but haven't been sharing seeds because like you I don't think they will stay true.

OK. I'm fairly lackluster with seeds:) I'm addicted to them but have so so results so I'm not expecting huge sucess although I keep trying:lol:

Isn't that the shame of it all. Get addicted to something and can't get it right. Me, Me, Me.
Maybe I'm addicted to the seeds, not the plants.
