I was sifting compost today and saw lots of my usual earthworms. I also saw two of these guys and I didn't know if it was a good thing or not.

That's a wireworm. Adult form is the Click Beetle. It's not good...can damage plants and seeds. I've heard of using pieces of potato as a "trap". I've got those also.

Those mealworms are very common over most of the US even in Minnesota. They are also consider a pest in the house too.
