Hi Ya'All. I am new here but I am a friend(I think????)haha of granny_goody.We live in the same area.I am Reed City,Mi. I have to tell ya'All I have been cracking up,pardon the pun, about the wind and skirts.I love it.Ya'All r hilarious.Me and my DH also have wonderful chickens.Anyone know where I can get just 2 Peking ducks 1 male,1 female for one of our 16 grandchildren whom requested white ones and their names shall be Pony and Snowy. She is 3.Glad to meet ya'all.
Don’t feed fruit to layers?
Kae, when you order you chicks from McMurray, why not add the two ducks to the order. That way you would get them. Since you would be ordering the minimum of chicks, you could probably get one of each.
And BTW, Ideal doesn't have guineas until May 8th. So, I may have to wait till then to get mine. Or there is a guy in Baldwin who might have eggs that I could incubate before then.
TY granny,I tried to order just the 2 ducks with my 25 chicks and they said no had to order 10 of them. So,I will wait and get them at the mill when they get in.
I would appreciate you ordering us maybe 3 or so guineas with your order or eggs whichever u do.Did u see they have blue, purple and lavender ones.Thats the 3 I would like to get if possible. We'll talk later.

Well, I had planned on getting the "hatchery pick" guineas as I don't care what color they are. But if I get the colors you want, I will let you have them, unless I fall in love. :o))
Hi granny. Are the Ideal guineas all the helmeted variety? I just saw a picture in Storey's Illustrated Guide to Poultry and they show a "Vulturine" guinea that is supposed to be calmer and friendlier and larger than the helmeted ones. I love the pattern on the the helmeted one, they remind me of checkered fritillary, but the Vulturine ones are pretty spectacular.
I would love to have guineas--just for the tick control if nothing else. The Illustrated Guide also says they have "delicately flavored meat and eggs." Has any one tasted one?
Hi, Catscan, I have no idea about being helmeted guineas. I just intend to get them for, as you say, tick control. We had a major problem with ticks last year and I don't want another this year. Hence the guineas. Besides, they are a fun bird. I just hope I can raise a few as I have never had them before.
Yes, my hubby's cousin said to watch out for her coming over and stealing them so she can eat them. They seem to be popular eating in the deep south, as that is where both dh and her come from. I, for one, have never eaten one, nor the eggs, but that's in the future if we have enough to eat and if we can get them to lay their eggs where we can get to them. I do know that people who have had them say you have to watch because they will disappear for a while and them come back with a bunch of keets following them. (Smart birds)
