When using florescent lights to grow seedlings, is it neccessary to use new bulbs each season?
how often to change florescent bulbs?
I use the same ones year after year, if they burn out I'd replace them but otherwise no.
I very seldom replace mine. I do try to keep them rotated so that each set of two has one old, one newer. I write the replacement date in permanent marker on the end of the tube.
It shouldn't make a difference. Either they work or they don't. It's simply a sealed tube of gas that is excited to give off light. What burns out over a long time is the starter that excites the gas.
Thank you, all. I had heard somewhere that it is necessary to replace the bulbs, but after reading these messages, I won't bother!
