DAILY PICS Vol. 59

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Great pics today and some birds we rarely or never get to see here.

Today for about an hour there was a large hawk just sitting there in a tree outside my office window. It was only about 40ft away and I could've gotten closer. Sadly, I had left my camera home. Sigh.

I put out some dried cranberries a few days ago. This Bohemian Waxwing was dining on them today.

This wet little Black-capped Chickadee has just worked very hard to open a BOSS. They really hammer away, like a woodpecker, to crack them.

I agree Pelle! Wonderful pics!! I think gardenpom is part bird.... getting such great flight shots, lol

Gary the frost is so beautiful in the pics..

Nice scrub Jay pic up there Adel!~

Spectacular everyone!!

It was so windy here the past couple days...(40-50 mph. gusts) fewer birds than usual made it by, however something really cracked me up right at dusk time yesterday evening..

I saw a group of Mourning doves ground feeding here outside my window and a big gust of wind blew one of them about 5 inches sliding on it's feet.. It did look a bit nervous and perplexed when that happened, but then flew up and grabbed the feeder when it had the chance. lol!

Today will be a calm 15-20, and I can remove the anchors from my hanging feeders, whew!

Questions for Resin: Is the Albino Cardinal in tiger's link a male of female? What's the telling factor(s)?

Questions for Resin: Is the Albino Cardinal in tiger's link a male of female? What's the telling factor(s)?

It isn't a true albino, just a partial albino, as only some colours are missing, not all of them, and the eye is normal colour, not pink. Since the red is still present, and is only showing in the places where a female Cardinal has red, I'd suspect it is probably a female. With a pure albino, it probably wouldn't be possible to tell the sex at all.

Very nice one, too!

Love all the pictures! Mine aren't coming out as well as all yours are. I guess shooting through glass has something to do with it.

Here are some frosty ones during our snow yesterday.

Thanks for doing that Resin. Wish I knew how. BEV Here is an off colored sparrow!!

Quite easy - in Photoshop, click on Image, go down to Adjust, and from the sub-menu select Auto Levels, and the software does it for you.

Won't work with all poor quality images (e.g. not good for very over- or under-exposed pics), but with grey-toned pics like these, it's very effective

Wow, I had a lot of catching up to do! Wonderful pics everyone!

I especially enjoyed the Ibis and Waxwings!

Gary, have you ever tried taking some pics down by the Elmendorf salmon hatchery? There is always a lot of frost on the trees down there and can make it very picturesque. Lots of little feathered friends there too.

It's been pouring today. Here is a pic of a soggy House Finch. Sorry if it's a little blurry but it was really coming down!

Yeah Pelle, And that's just a small # of what I have here. If I had 5 of theses feeders, they would all be full and there would be more birds waiting..
