We found this thing in New Orleans, but we do not think it is native. Came out of a pile of woodchips out side. It likes to jump a bit, but it can walk to. It was unable to climb out of a styrofoam cup, and it is an inch and a quart long.
CLOSED: Big jumper, with digging arms.
Sombrenote,
Itīs seem to me that this insect is a mole cricket, belonging of Family Grillotalpidae. You don't give any idea of its size, so I can't identify more. You can see in BugGuide http://bugguide.net/node/view/4283/bgpage for more information
Carmen
Sorry, I don't see that indicate its size in inch and quarter. I use milimeters.
According BugGuide, Southern mole cricket has 25-25 mm; Northern mole cricket has 19-33 mm What's that in inches?
thanks. Thats it.
