Sartorial Challenge

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Okay you lot, I am going to start a new challenge on who can come up with the best bits for our wardrobes - now this is for all of you who have lusted after Pixy's boots - prepare to drool.

http://www.amazon.com/Womens-Yellow-Bumblebee-Rain-Boots/dp/B000ARBORG

hands up who is ordering!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I can't make up my mine, Cow or Frog?
Any way I would be to busy watching my feet, and walking into things LOL

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I like the ladybug ones. :)

But then I'd have to upgrade my falling apart overalls with the paint stains, permanently dirt stained knees and straps tied onto the hooks because the other metal parts broke....(OK, well, I do need to do that anyhow....)

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Susy, not at all - I think the ladybugs would approve! And Tills, I'm with you - I can't figure out how Pix can walk in them and look where she is going, I'd be utterly fascinated (and tickled pink) over how cute my feet were (and that would be a first!)

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

That's true-I wouldn't want to get them dirty or scratched up, either.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I like that some people are ordering in pairs . . . "Customers who bought these also bought . . .". You don't have to make a decision - get them all.

Hey, those are my boots! Except mine do not have handles. Getting them dirty is not a problem, ladies. You simply hose them off!

Here's some closer to you, Laurie. These are nice ones.

How about some coveralls? Is she stylish or what??
http://www.rosiescoveralls.com/full_greenToile.htm

Note the pockets for knee pads.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Oh, my, gawd - does she look smug or is that disgust? Its the neckerchief thingy, what in the world is the function of that? Covering love bites? And the little inset at the neck - but please, can there be any fabric more vapid? Oh, our guys down the road are never going to give her a second look!

Peaches boots (and weeder digest?) I WANT BEES

This message was edited Jan 29, 2008 9:43 PM

Oh I thought you would just love the neckerchief! She is a complete garden fashionista in that thing!
Well, you better order the bees or you will never be satisfied! We will have an entire DG hive before long! Once you have worn bees, no other boots will do. Whatever will I do when they wear out? Buy another, I guess! I think it is something about the alliteration of Bumble Bee Boots, the way it rolls off the tongue.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8a)

hi there, thought I'd join in. I love those welliess, but a bit expensive, no? I've been looking everywhere for some great, roomy garden clogs that I could wear orthotics in. I had a terrific pair I got from the Nordstrom rack about 8 years ago, but they finally died. Does anyone have any ideas? Cheaper would be better....So I can spend more money on seeds and plants.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Right priorities colchie

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

"roomy enough to slip over clothes"? Please tell her, Laurie, how you might manage that one with your previously posted fab & toasty winter-gardening outfit...
I'd say that Rosie does not go out to the garden for gardening purposes.
I wonder if she even has a garden? Does she shower/shave/make-up & perfume prior to heading out with her baskets of mums?
She has not broken a sweat, and the overalls look much too crisp - she hasn't knelt in the dirt, that's for certain. And the tell-tale sign: no twigs/spiders or leaves in her hair!
Perhaps she is one of those that directs the gardeners?
I'll take old denims anyday. Don't want to worry about messing up the fine sage-green toile overalls.

You are saying 'no' to the toile? Well, how about this? I think we are in the wrong country for gardenwear. Lauried has us beat hands down.

Or this?
http://www.gardentribe.co.uk/Product.aspx?cat_id=173

According to this website, gardening is the new 'rock and roll'. I had no idea I was so cool!

Eureka, CA

Katye, I'm with you! That woman doesn't know her compost from her camellias!!!

And colchie, I've been pretty happy with my "Sloggers" brand clog. This summer will the their 3rd summer, and I've used them for more things than gardening. Like, readjusting a campfire!! They have a good wide toe-box, so would probably accommodate orthotics. Not exactly cheap, but very sturdy....

Okay - some of our wardrobes are a tad, ummm, impractical - but hey, that apron is a bradley's one of the last family owned tannery and glove makers - and I have to tell you they make leather gardening gloves to frame - not necessarily to use, I find the fingers are clumsy, but they are gorgeous to look at and handle - so much so that it has become vogue to wear the lighterweight ones in town - take a look at the gauntlet gloves. Sheesh-a-doodle, we are stylish in our pursuits.

So if you are agoing visiting, dawn your gauntlet gloves.

I knew I shouldn't have gone there so early in the am!
Pink? and Suede? Leather, I understand this - I am a former leather-crafter and so appreciate high-quality workmanship. Leather can be easily cleaned, and it is exceptionally durable - gloves as a prime example.
But dear me - suede is a dirt-magnet. And pink? Ok, not my colour of choice, but it would match the geraniums, nicely.
Do I want to match the geraniums? Hmmm...
and yes, I did view the green.
Well - perhaps we should all show up at Pixy's well-shod & properly attired.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

But Katye - did you see the leather handled secateurs? In palest pink?

this company use to make all the leather aprons and protective clothing for the foundry industries - so they really know how to make thorn proof gloves - and since there is no longer much call for that kind of product (especially since kevelar came along) they had to reinvent themselves - and they really have rescued the company from closing down. (actually, I don't know why I haven't bought a pair/three since we do so much bramble clearing) - but I do find they haven't quite got the sizing away from foundry blokes to women's hands just yet - you need a much different grip when you are pruning than when you are pouring out a vat of molten steel.

their colour sense is interesting - they have gone for extremely deep dye - that isn't just pink, it is deep dark hot fuschia! I'll bet you'd be a knock out in it.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Nice gloves, Laurie! Their giant leather totes and bags are surprisingly affordable, considering (and especially considering they are made in England and not China.)

I did see those excellent gauntlets. Awesome piece of leather, that. I appreciate the workmanship. Unfortunately, I cannot see my self actually bending my fingers in such maille. (did I spell that correctly?) I like the guy's green apron better than the pink one in terms of actual usability. but I prefer NOT to have things tied around my neck. Past life memories and all that.
No really, it bothers my neck to have things tied around it. I prefer the putzfrau version of the house apron and have considered making one myself. It actually has armholes and is more like a smock with pockets. Now that's a useful garment.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

No hot pink for me - thanks, but molten Pepto Bismal is tooooo much colour intensity for moi. Now, a nice sage green, or chocolate brown - definately worth a second look.

Ooooooo, speaking of sage green - what if Bradley's did a Rosie Overall?
One could cartwheel & roll endlessly; sweaty, and tough to bend anything!
Definately not very Rosie-fied...lol

Well, those toile coveralls were sage green.. how about it?

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

I am dressed in my delicious (not!) violent orange fleecie, with my blue and red cap and on the way out the good - GGGGGGOOOOOOD Morning all. It is a two sock morning.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Pictures please! Me thinks you need some bumble bees to finish it off!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Pixy- Do you find that the boots run true to size? I am going to order some ladybugs!

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Oh how marvellous!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I have always loved ladybugs my goddaughters had ladybug boots and outgrew them, so now they are on my covered porch as decorations next to my gardening bench.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Pix - sage-green toile & sage-green leather: 2 different animals.
I considered that Rosie might want those toile coveralls protected by a leather coverall so they would stay crisp/clean/smart-looking: garden-fresh, right? In case she actually made it out to the garden, you know. I'm surprised that she was not accessorized with a mirror-polished D-handle shovel.

Or a shiny pink garden trowel? (No mud in sight?)
Would it not be cool if we were an army of gardeners in bee boots w/dg tshirts? So cool.
Rachel, the ones I have are by 'Western Chief' and are a size 7, size 38 european. I wear a shoe size 81/2 and these are plenty roomy for me. They are actually a little big but I like it that way.

My son is home from school with a temperature of 101. Not like him at all. He is pale and feels terrible. I fear it may be the flu. Poor little guy.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Oh Pix - hope your boy gets lots of rest & TLC from Mom! The flu knocked down a few people at work, and it takes a while to recuperate.

Shiny pink garden trowel - absolutely!
And U-nies for the Work-Party Bees!

Has anyone seen the garden boots called Bogs? Wish they made a Bumble-bee style.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Thanks for the info Pix, I wear an 8 to and 81/2 depending on the shoe and a 38 in Haflinger's. So I will order the size 7. The ones that I am ordering are Western Chief as well! I must admit that the coveralls are darling, I would feel bad getting them dirty, they are so pretty!

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Rach, you buy those toile coveralls and we will roll you in mud!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

and then off they'll go to tell Rosie! Better not go there, Rach!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I could never bring myself to spend that much money on clothes that I am going to get dirty! Now for a lovely set of Felco pruners or plants no problem!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

You are so right! In fact, buy two Felco's - always a good idea to have a spare.
Plants - always in multiples of more than 1..... =:0)

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Heyyyy Rach

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Bless felco for putting orange handles on - but I still lose them - I have a little rack in the scullery with several pairs - the replacements, and the ones that eventually turned up again. Fortunately (if you have read the Felco instructions) they have a great rejuvenation clinic for your composted secateurs - for £8 ($16?) you can send them off and they make them soooooo new! Brillant. Then you can lose them again. I'm good at that.

Okay, here is a photo of my gardening self. My dh snapped this photo today as I was going into the workshop. You can see I have my bumble bee boots, my pink overalls, and my large and long woolly green sweater. The blue wool hat is there but you might not see it very well. My nose and cheeks are pink with cold. I am the height of garden fashion.
http://davesgarden.com/photo.php?member=Pixydish

Mike made this my photo on my dave's page. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet.

Eureka, CA

It's perfect!!! You ARE the height of garden fashion.... :o)

Sanna

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)
