Pink foliage !!!

Louisville, KY

I have for the last 7 years been breeding cannas. I would not consider my breeding ordinary as most other breeders cross the prettiest plants with other pretty plants. I decided to back track and breed species with new hybrids and tall odd foliage forms to larger flowering forms. My main goal is to produce new foliage cannas that have great colored leaves odd shapes and sizes with normal to large flowers. One particular thing I have been trying to breed is a pink leaf canna. I have a belief that if you see a color in a new leaf a virused leaf or a old leaf that the color is genetically in the plant and that breeding it can make those genes dominate and show up in new hybrids. I am not sure if their is scientific backing for that claim but I feel I have seen results from trying to breed for certain recessive colors. So here is my new canna I have my eye all over. The foliage is a bright pink. I have yet to flower it so no idea yet on the flower color it has started to re-grow and I have not seen anything with colors quiet like it. Hopefully more breeding can make it even brighter pink. I am very excited about this one I will be sure to show more pics as it matures out this summer.

thanks, I may have to send the girls to the mall and my sister and I drop by. Is Plant Kingdom anywhere near you? Is it worth the visit?

Louisville, KY

Sad to say I have never visited plant kingdom. I have meet the people their a few times at plant shows and they seem to often have some unusual stuff from time to time. I should visit them myself but never find the time.
