well give me time haven't even been here a whole year yet LOL
Houseplants
Hmmmm... 52 pages of squash and all she wants is one seed?
well I hope she is wanting more then one seed I was always taught to put at least 3 to a hill but the packets usually said 6 LOL
Sorry Pod, I forget people can't read my mind. The squash that I only plant one seed of is the summer yellows. I'm intrigued with the winter squashes tho. I failed miserably at growing acorns a few years back and haven't tried again. I'll give the cushaw a try!
Mibus, have you tried the iris forum yet? Speaking of asparagus...mmm...the big box stores have their crowns in stock . Now through February is a good time to get them in the ground in Texas.
Dont waste your money on big box store plants, been there done that and now I buy things from really good mailorder places - I never dare buy anything more from box stores. They tend to be tissue culture and that makes for weaker plants and on the whole might be very diffrent in color or form from the parent plant.
I looked in the ummm dang forget the name but the spot that talks of places to order from ...LOL and a few of the plant files, but haven't gone directly in to the forum yet LOL
mitch--i have been getting the catalogs for plants and debating if i should order or not--i am glad you put in your thoughts--i was leaning toward the box stores because i could see the plants and of course wouldn't have to pay shipping--also i wondered how tiny the shipped ones would be--i am going to try some seeds but what tomatoe plants have you ordered and from who and how did they do
*jumps up and down* I know I know LOL...in another thread we were talking about tomatoes and Mitch said he liked using Baker Creek they have heirlooms and I just got my order yesterday from them.
Here's the link to them and here's the link to the topic where we were talking about it

didn't' mean to take over the question you were asking Mitch .....just excited I got my seeds already and the Sun is out now !!!!
suns out here too--so you are doing seeds? which ones? sure didn't think you were taking over the question--the more info the better for me--aren't we lucky to get excited about seeds and not need diamonds to do the trick? i get so excited when someone sends me seeds in the mail! or when a plant blooms, sprouts, changes from last time i checked it!
here ya go this is what I ordered for starters LOL just copied and pasted from the confirmation they sent in email LOL

thanks--i will see if i have bakers catalog to look up a few of the pics later--
Bakers is great - I only bought my veggie seeds from them, if for some reason they dont do great they refund for store credit too... love it.
I used to have some 500 named daylilies and 200 or so named Iris, it never failed the big box stores never came out right, or died before they even bloomed. I have bought wisteria, bushes, blackberries, grapes... you name it of the bare root stuff and they never do right, they will be very small for several years or bloom wrong, or be the wrong fruit... and there is very little you can do for any of them. I still buy bulbs from places like that - lilies and glads and such... and just cross my fingers. Lowes and Homedepot will have berry plants cheap here soon in pots, grapes too... for bushes and such just bite the bullet and pay a little more for a good place and know what you are getting - and they will stand by their plant which really helps too.
Ok,you've got me going again. Just ordered the Baker's mag that comes quarterly and printed out the veggie gardening guide. Anxious for it to dry up so we can get the dirt in the new raised garden. Phyllis, this is what we did with the timbers from Bronc. 18X11. Hope to have veggies going as soon as we can get the dirt moved.
Sorry, Mitch. OT, again. Nothing about houseplants. About to head out into the sunshine. I have some plants to put in the ground.
thanks mitch--i have only bought from lowes and depot--i look forward to trying the catalogs
No problem, there was a lot of talk in the Daylily forum awhile back on box store plants.
Christi - I cannot wait to see that garden in bloom and fruit everywhere. Baker Creek is a great place to start and with that soil you are getting it is going to be WOW back there.
Thank you for your confidence. The more I learn, the more I know that I don't know much.
The only times we really know something is when we think about what we dont know.
later
Have fun :-)
Christi you did a great job with those timbers, it is going to work out great.
With all the Iris, tropicals, gardens, and seating areas you will have a park better then any in Desoto.
Can't take credit for the timbers. The yard crew that I have worked with for over 10 years built it for me. Took 4 strong men about 4 hours and they knew what they were doing. Because the timbers are so old and solid oak they had to drill and then go buy nails/screw three times. would start a pilot hole, start the nail, and finish with a sledge hammer. The baby isn't going anywhere. Had already piled up the leaves and the newspapers. Hope this lasagna thing is going to work. There is a huge tree stump cut even with the ground and monkey grass mowed low under all of that. Cross your fingers. Oh, have also scattered alfalfa pellets, horticultural corn meal and dried molasses into the mix. May have to use a little Roundup around the edges. Have very, very healthy St. Augustine and it will go right into the cracks. Last veggie garden I had, Bermuda grass did it in.
my 4x4's are stacked behind my greenhouse for now ...am gonna have to get a tiller to go through the area I want for the garden to get the rest of them up and out ...then put them around the area to maybe raise it up a lil then take the compost pile and some other stuff I have to work in the ground....lil by lil it goes when the funds are available and time for me to go with Doug to get things. ...Hey did y'all see me wave as we went to DFW to pick up his oldest son today LOL I thought of y'all as we went and came back
We are some 45 miles from DFW. Not really convenient. But then we don't fly much. Except to Hawaii. whoooohoooo.
Þ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ LOL
I still thought of ya anyway
Thanks.
ok so back o the topic I bought an African Violet yesterday when I got my shelves an lights
fun - they are so easy.
it is a ruffled white with pink spots scattered on the blooms have to go to the website on the tag to find out it's name.
yeah is cute and if I could have found someone in that department I might have gotten some that looked very sad the blooms were spent and not pinched off ...might have gotten them cheap LOL..but I spent enough the way it was
ROFLMAO no comment
They are very easy to grow from pinched leaves from Lowes.... dont know how I know that... ;-)
well maybe we will see what happens when some are from home depot LOL
:-) I will never tell...
tell who????? what ???? when??????? Where????
I know nothing nothing nothing LMAO
Lol... you know my Hot Lips Salvia came from the state fair - just helped pinch it back for a few more blooms....
