I was so happy earlier this month when I walked into my greenhouse...Day Dreams had blessed me with this pretty bloom. Even prettier then outside this summer. Even Bill was impressed! LOL
Day Dreamin' in the greenhouse
That is picture perfect!
Cuttings of D.D. all shrivelled up and died in the greenhouse for me. Have you had D.D. for long?
That's a really pretty photo. My daydreams never got that dark ;(
Beautiful!!
I got her this summer. Thanks for the compliment on the photo...new camera..still learning it. LOL However, DD was much prettier in the greenhouse for me. Sometimes that happens.
Very pretty picture of DD.
Lovely!!
Beautiful picture.
What a beauty!!!
Mickey
What a magnificent flower! *eyes bulging out*
So beautiful. .......dreaming of a greenhouse.........
Lily_Love you have Dmail.. :)
I was going to drown in my own tears for having lost my D.D. cuttings when I saw your beautiful posting. I purchased the cuttings last summer, a few didn't take root, other did, only to die in the makeshift-gh recently. Then another generous DGer sent me a few more cuttings (before the Holidays) including Vixen, MEM, MM, all survived but MM and DD. What's with the double-letter brugs? Oh, Whiskers too, this morning I found it's devoid of leaves, and became smooshy from the tip down to the cane (as appose to rot from the base). I trimmed the water-log tip off and keeping my finger crossed.
I now have the skeletal of MM (as seen here) to "day dream" about a better chance in the near future.
Kim
p.s.
I also questioned why, for fellow gardeners in similiar zones, and warmer zones can raise these successfully, and I failed? I did switch the type of potting soil recently, could that soil be too "water-retaintive"? I'm thinking-out-loud here, perhaps some of you'd have a diagnose for the problem?

Nice pic! Nice to see you are getting blooms still. All of my plants are leafless & barely hanging on!
Hey Bj....still trying to finish the letter I started back in Dec. LOL
Jump on the prayer forum and see my thread...will fill you in more in the letter. Hugs

Brad
My daydreams didn't get that dark either, but I'm in a (normally) dry climate. That being said, we're expecting the rainstorm of the decade tonight. DD is a favorite of mine!
Yeah I hear that Mary! We are on day 9 of rain here too. I hope my GH can float! LOL
You flat landers! We have had snow in the yard since Dec 28th & it's snowing again today! I want Spring!!!!
What a beautiful photo of your brug!!! Thank you so much for sharing! I hope some day that I will be able to post a photo. It sure is a beauty that you have too!.
Mickey
Its really beautiful!!!
omg that is magnificent. :-O
simply stunning!
Thanks ya'll...she really was pretty! Can't wait till she blooms again.
Lily-love, are you giving too much water? Cut the mushy part down to where the plant is good, rinse the cut with a good splash of H2O2, give it a good splash ever day. If it is a fungus ot should stop it where the cut is.
It has worked well for me.
Hey Ginger,
I see you are from Fountain. I live just across the way over in Sunny Hills. Beautiful picture.
Dee
Hello all,
I just went to visit Brenda and her greenhouse. Oh my is all I can say. She is such a nice person and full of information and advise. I was all ears (and eyes). I just couldn't help myself, I had to get a few of her brugs. Now I can't wait for the babies to grow up and bloom. She really didn't make me feel like I was being imposing or rushed, and I am sure she had lots to do.
Thanks again Brenda for you hospitality.
Ginger-
Daydreams is so lovely and you are lucky to have blossoms right now- keeps us others going!! Keep posting, we don't mind!!

Hey Dee,
Yes, Brenda is super nice and the greenhouse is a jungle! If you go visit again, let me know...I could meet you there or you could stop by here. I'm 15-20 minutes away...a LOT faster as the crow flys! LOL Wonderful "roads" we have here in Fountain. Oh well, I chose to move here so can't complain.
Ginger
Ok now I am confused, I thought Ginger_H in Fountain was who I went to see. So there are 2 of you in Fountain that love Brugs???
This is what I got from Brenda (seedsproutnursery)
Phanomenal
Adeline
Miss B Havin
L'Amour
New Orleans Lady
So hard to make choices.
I just ordered a few plants from Brenda, she seems to know her stuff and she has been very nice and a pleasure to talk to.
I was tempted to get DayDreams but i chose NOL instead, i wanted to try a double of some type this year.
Maybe next year I will get a Day Dreams, it looks like a great cultivar.
Good choices,Dee! When I opened up my greenhouse this morning I have several blooming now and lots of buds. In bloom now are NOL, Apricot Smoothie,Milk N Honey, KBS and an unknown that I dubbed Pooh..think I'm missing one,but can't remember who.
Good show Ginger, I was wanting to order KBS but wasn't quite sure what kind of performer it is. Does it do well? I am determined to get DayDreams but I think it is going
to have to wait a little bit, I've already spent alot.
Does all brugs produce seeds, I want to get a Mountain Magic & cross it with Painted Lady to keep a dark color. I know some Hardy Hibiscus don't always produce seed & was wondering about brugs.
Jerry.
That is a very good question ...I have not crossed hybrids so I am very interested to know what plants could be difficult to cross ...I have had great (first time) success with a noid apricot and white suavolens (really just practicing to get ready for the hybrid crossing). Thousands of seedlings later :^o ...I am wondering if the hybrids are more difficult.
chrissy
Jerry most brugs will produce seed, but a few are sterile or at least very stingy when it comes to making pods.
Both you mentioned do produce seed. I know the PL x MM cross has been done by Liz Fichl and the seedlings should be blooming this summer.
