Lucky, I am so sorry about the chick dying. I know how you feel. DH went out to get the eggs yesterday afternoon and there were no eggs in the nest. We think the other hens ate the eggs after they had died. It was too cold out there for them to hatch. When I had checked the day before, the straw in the nest was cold and damp. We figure the eggs had frozen.

ok well her 2 new eggs are due to hatch today or tomorro if they dont i will have to break her up it is just getting to cold

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Well, here's hoping the two will hatch.

I am going to wait another month and set mine up in the incubator to hatch the first part of April. It will then be warm enough to put them in the pen we put up in the garage with the wood stove working to keep the heat up. We also use a light to up the heat a little more. We don't use a heat lamp as that would be too hot. I have used a 100 watt bulb twice and both times we didn't lose any chicks.

well i hope all goes well with you

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Thank you, and I hope your two will make it, too.

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Yes, lucky, big hugs. You can only say you tried.

Maybe you can try again in your spring. I am waiting for our days to get warmer (it got warm today...all the way up to about 25 deg F).

I am going to try about the middle of March. Then if they hatch, it will be the first part of April and maybe warm enough for them to survive.

londonderry, Australia

well it hatched and she has made it out of the nest box and hopefully it will stay alive

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Wonderful, Lucky, I am glad it hatched. Like you, we are hoping it will survive so you can have at least one.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Hooray! glad for you!

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Lucky, make sure you keep us posted about the chick. And pictures, please.
