i think they are outside DC. they do a lot of interesting musicals.

i think DC is one of the most confusing cities to get around in, and heaven help you if you want to take a cab to a different quadrant.
i am ALWAYS lost there - other than right around Kennedy Center (and the Watergate).

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Ah yes, whilst driving in DC for the first (or 10th) time, one must be prepared for the complimentary tour of northern Virginia that inevitably takes place. Yes, it's a ridiculous lay out, imo. I'd much rather drive in Manhattan. It's particularly fun driving during the rush hour when they change the direction of the flow of traffic on certain city streets... and you're not expecting it.

Thanks for the link; I'll go check it out.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Wrightie: You are so right about that tour of Virginia -- it is a miracle I haven't landed in Monticello by mistake. That mixing bowl gets me completely mixed up, no matter how well intentioned I am.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

I remember a certain White Knuckle drive up the GW Parkway, with no exits in site for what seemed like an eternity ... while I was on my way to a job interview in Dupont Circle about ten years ago.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Hey, so the Signature Theatre is in Shirlington ... and they have a great line up!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

There is some weird cab rule about going from NW to SW or SE or NE or who knows. We were coming back after dinner in Georgetown one night, and wanted to drop someone else off at a different hotel - a minor diversion - but it meant we went into (and out of) a 3rd zone and so owed this HUGE amount. (After waiting forever for a cab - which we called - in the 1st place.)
Sorry.
My 1st time in DC was 6 months after my 1st time in NYC. i had finally gotten used to NYC cabs...
i've never driven in DC.

Falls Church, VA(Zone 7b)

LOL!! Yes, can you find the Iwo Jima monument? I can recall at least 5 Virginia/D.C. tours trying to find that one.....

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh, that's reserved for the advanced course!

I love NYC but am not sure how I would do there these days since I have begun having walking and balance problems. Wouldn't do so great I suspect. But.....if a trip is ever planned, I will be there giving it a try.

Love the porn names. Mine would be Boots High. High Boots sounds much better though. You ladies are indeed very enjoyable when you get going on a topic. If we were to get very technical here and I was to count the parakeet that I owned as a youngster, my name then would be Perky High. Found myself in that position a few times in my life, though not recently. ha-ha I might have John begin calling me that instead of the pet name he calls me now which is Squirrel. He tells people that I am his Squirrel Friend. ha-ha

Foxy, I think that all the bulbs that I had last fall were put in the ground in plenty of time. Last week I purchased 6 elephant ear bulbs and potted them to get started inside. I did that a few years ago and had great success with them. They grew huge.

I am really switching back and forth here but needed to share about my only driving experience in NYC. Actually not the streets of Manhattan but the Interstate that runs around the city. It was the week after 9-11 and we were returning from a visit to Cape Cod. On the way up it was the Friday after 9-11 and while passing the city we were able to see the smoke arising from the rubble of the Twin Towers. Freaky, but something that I will remember all of my life, I am sure.

Anyway, on the way back home, John became very ill with food poisoning I think. He is not one to get ill, but he was very ill this time and I was the one who ended up driving home. While on the roads around the city the traffic was bumper to bumper and moving an inch at a time it seemed. It was a lot of stop, and not much go. That gave everyone in each lane, which was either 5 or 6 lanes probably a chance to take a good look in to the cars riding beside them.

You really had to be there, but at the time our way to heal any ache, pain or illness that arose was to use magnetic therapy. We had magnets of all sizes and shapes. This is how John decided to treat his illness, by taping magnets all around his head and body. So, here I have this very thin, almost skeletal man with the front seat of our car laid back as far as it would go, laying out dressed in all white with these objects all taped on with white first aid tape. We got lots of double takes from people in the cars around ours. I am sure that they thought I was transporting one of the almost dead from the attacks. I will never forget that day either.

Oh well, enough of me, you folks have a good weekend. Looking forward to the pictures of the pup Wrightie.

Perky High: What a funny story about John and the magnets!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Hi, Perky! ha, funny alright.
Call me Morris Harwood. I think I am a sleazy producer, not a star.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Morris Harwood presents:

Perky High _______ Happy Macomb

************ High Boots *************

also starring... Goldie Majestic

ROFL! "Goldie and Flipper" were my two first pets -- a pair of very originally named (not!) goldfish. I think we had them about a year before Goldie got her head stuck in a seashell and "drowned"... Flipper died the next week, of a broken heart I figured. (I was 4.)

Back to the small planes for a moment... I just had to mention the story my grandmother used to tell about the "barnstormer" at the Wisconsin state fair when she was a young thing... She and her sister went up with him, and the more they shrieked and screamed, the more he flew the plane upside down, loops, spirals, etc... !! I can just imagine.

Years later, my dad flew a little plane to the farm once, I think while he and mom were engaged... had to land in the corn field. Grandpa went up for a ride with him (despite a broken leg and crutches to deal with at the time), but Grandma wanted nothing to do with it. I guess she was not convinced he would only fly the plane right side up!

ha ha ha!
and the tragic deaths of goldfish owned by four yr olds

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

That reminds me of my goldfish -- don't remember his name, but I must have been not much more than 4 -- jumped out of the bowl, and I think a cat ate him. Did any of you see the movie Amelie? Great goldfish scene.

(P.S. I like the name Flipper Majestic as an alternate -- implies all kinds of interesting peep show skills!)

Sally, you did it again with your sleazy producer comment. I almost spit coffee on screen.

Did you guys see the perennial co-op? They are actually having a problem filling the flats, and there are some nice plants . . . http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/816414/.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

... I thought that it was the name of your first dog ... If it's the name of a first pet, then I must change my porn name to Nibbles Chestnut.

My first pet was a hamster.

Crozet, VA

ha-ha-ha Love it!!! You certainly would have a large audience if that name means anything. I had hamsters when I was a child too, but can't remember their names to save my soul. Oh well, maybe it will come to me some day.

How did doggie trip go Wrightie? have you posted about trip elsewhere?

Ruby

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Definitely first pet, not first dog! Hamsters count! And what a name that is!

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Shortly after getting Nibbles, I conned my parents into getting a second, which I promptly named "Nipsy." Heh heh

Rubester, it was FANTASTIC. I slept in and am now running very late -- here ya go, http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/785710/

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Laying in bed last night, not sleeping again, for no reason. My first named -myself pet would actually be Powerful Pud the hamster, a name which my dad chuckled at and wouldn't tell me why..............
Then a gerbil which I cannnot remember the name of, so THAT bugged me!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

So Powerful Pud Harwood?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

sigh- how was I to know how that decision would affect me later in life??
First dog was Hunny
Hunny Harwood.

Can't be 1st dog, i've never had a dog.
Christabel was a guinea pig.
i was about 10 and had gotten really into this stash of gothic romances from the 60s i'd found. There was one called Christabel's Room, and i thought that was a great name!

The guinea pig of romance -- too funny! Christapig!

(We once agreed to take care of the elementary school guinea pig over a school vacation. At that time my mom lived with us -- she was quite elderly and not at all well. But my mom loved animals. She had volunteered for years at the hand-rearing lab at the National Zoo, where they took care of baby animals that for whatever reason could not be nurtured by their mothers. Two things happened that I recall vividly. The first is that I put the guinea pig on my mom's lap and that pig promptly peed all over my mother. It had a much bigger bladder than I would have thought! This did not endear the pig to my mom. Second, my mom had a wonderful Jamacan home health care aide named Violet, who we all adored. But when we produced the guinea pig, Violet's eyes got really big with delight - apparently in Jamaica guinea pigs are a culinary delicasy. Violet made us wonderful curries when she had time. We worried that night that maybe the guinea pig had found its way into the curry. It hadn't. In any event, we didn't offer to take the guinea pig again. Best not to take chances!)

Whose talking about adverse impact?? Mohawk Marvin didn't make the head titles or audition for any show!!! Not a problem, really. I guess it would work for a spaghetti Western, eh? If I had it to do over like Wrightie, I would say the pet formula doesn't work for me, but if we wanted to create a personality, it would be "Cherry Roper."

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

SNORT!

Falls Church, VA(Zone 7b)

LOL!!

Falls Church, VA(Zone 7b)

Happy--never saw the co-op. But I will take a look. I have been hearing about these but somehow didn't know where they were happening.

Christabel and Cherry are both good porno names. Hilarious!!!

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm still struggling with Cherry Roper ...

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

And debuting for the first time ever, introducing "Lady Bell's Lane". Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes. Sweet Gypsy Rose is old news! Won't tell where I put my bells ;-)

Crozet, VA

My first married name was Lane. Imagine my surprise a few years ago when dabbling with antiques and collectibles when the almost largest Internet website for these things is named Ruby Lane. ha-ha

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

That is funny!
Ever tried googling your name?

Crozet, VA

Hmmm.....it has been years since I researched my name. What did yours show sally?
