What is this?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

It is a good feeling..............I had a friend in Corpus call me tonight to say that she didn't know she was out of Avid and could she have a 1/2 tsp and I started laughing........I have an almost empty bottle I am taking to her (LOL)

Susan -- rubber gloves, and a mask, and protective clothing (long sleeves), etc... and if you can move the plants out into the garage to limit exposure of the household to the chemical (especially since you have a bird), that would probably be good. There are a lot of very clear safety warnings on the label, and I take them seriously. Gail, I'm not trying to be critical -- everybody makes their own decisions on how to deal with this kind of stuff, and I'm not generally an alarmist, but I do want Susan to be safe. (and her bird too... birds are notoriously sensitive) :-)

I know that I don't take chemicals seriously enough, Critter so don't worry about offending me. This farm girl has lived through the days of planes flying over with DDT before it was outlawed and even the chemicals they use today aren't much safer.

I am glad you warned her.............my walls, carpet and shelves are covered with Avid...........also she is young. I figured out that every day i get is one more gift at my age.(LOL)

Hi,

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Thank you so much Gail as I was just about to do that..LOLOL The spay is not bad to my lungs.... I can't thank you enough for telling me what to get and where to get it...

good luck susan. You know that you are treating with Avid cylamen mites. If you have mealy bug you might need Admire from Cedar Creek or Marathon granules from them. I just hit everything when one plant gets sick..............

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Gail,
I already hit them with the Marathon, and took your advice and then hit with Avid when I seen that my passion flowers from seeds had one plant with a web and yup it was those little critters so every thing in the house has been dosed with both... I now have both on hand and very happy to have it...
Well as of tonight Kim has met all of my boys and my two GD's.. We are having a nice time.
Thanks once again for all the advice and not getting upset with me every time I ask WHAT TO DO NOW :-)
Hugs,
Susan

Keep having fun (LOL)

For safety reasons (less to inhalek, less gets spread around) and also for better coverage, I'd recommend dipping (leaves & crown cuttings especially) rather than spraying whenever possible.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks for that info Critter :-) I took everyone outside to spray and I think I did pretty good.. I found one plant today that did not get sprayed so I may just take a little water and put a drop or two in it and spray it....

Susan

i belong to a gesneriad group site who say to be careful about dipping, Critter. One lady lost her whole collection of avs as you are told to use the Avid once a week for three weeks. That could easily be too much of a 'good thing' if you are dipping the crowns three weeks in a row.

It was recommended to me that I leave them on the shelf and just spray the centers good and the tops. I did that twice and am doing the third treatment today and all looks well on the homefront.

I think for leaf cuttings and crown *cuttings* (where you've just got a few leaves, easy to dry), dipping should be OK... but I hear you about not getting the crowns sopping wet three times in three weeks.
