Of course, I should have thought about that. I wish I knew the name of that one.
Save me a Kingston Cardinal. I may be up in February to your place. I have a friend I go up to visit who lives close by to your place. I can get it then if you are around, or when we come up as a group. Definitely want one, though.
I've seen the new catalog. Very bright and shiney, I must say. I miss the old ones. I always learned so much from them. I didn't see anything like what I'm looking for in it.
Favorite Winter Combinations
Thanks Heidi
I was worried I would lose it, and I already took cutting from it and in 4 days has new roots. Had the old fashion one as a house plant for years in Calif. got to be the same in the root system. LOL
You aut to start you own tread for Q's and A's for all of us. just a thought.
I looked up that Corydalis 'Berry exciting'. I'm going to have to think about that one. Might be just the thing for a certain corner I've been struggling with.
As far as the chalk, how do you know you're getting the right kind? Where do you buy it?
Heidi-
I need a Berry Exciting as well, I'm berry excited to come and visit! Will you have other corydalis as well? Can I just put some dolomite lime around my hellebores?
Yes rachel dolomite works great. Thats what I use. I have the corydalis blue heron and shining septor I think is the name then this other very pretty brown leaves onew with yellow flowers that looks like a fern. I was a bad bad nursery owner. I ordered mass coll stuff. Wait till you see the cool bird houses I got . Here are just a few babies growing in the basement for next spring. Can't wait Heidi and Dragonfly
Hi Pixy I just saw the picture of kingston cardinal and it is a double red how nice. The yellow I have is gold finch. I also have ivory prince . Doesn't Phoenix look great. Heidi
Heidi, probably Corydalis Ophiocarpa. A favourite here.
I will check. I have one that reseeded and I let it goow a while till it got about 3' It was viney and had a white flower with a pink dot. Reseeded everywhere. It has a good tap root so I pull it out. Bad news.
Is it this one?

I do love the Kingston Cardinal Hellebore. And Phoenix is beautiful. H. has some beautiful hellebores thanks to Dan's efforts.
susy, I just get the plain white chalk and it works fine. I didn't know about putting them next to the hellebores, though. I'll have to do that.
Heidi-
I can hardly wait to get more Corydalis! I love them!
Well it is cold and crappy and I am out as usal. Lunch break and I just took some pictures. I am a big winter gardener since I am so busy in the summer. Here is a picture in the lower garden this is a pretty red twig I don't know which one it is but nice. I took out almost everything in here and will replant with summer sumn plants.
This is a new little display I planted in the garden with ferns and moss on a old metal bed. That is also turtle thinking about lifting his leg on it. He just figured that one out and has to mark anything I touch, Thats why he is not out when the nursery is officially open He would be peeing on everyones plants. P.S. Rachel we need a scrappy doo photo update soon, Probably a little bigger and playful. Back to my compost pile Helga signing off
Now I know another reason why it's cool to own a nursery! Take notes, Rachel! You get the benefit in the winter of masses of winter color with all those pots together! I love it! love the tub, the Lirope, the Bergenia(I think I have some of that coming. Hope so) , love the new display area and can't wait to see it w/jim's spheres. Also love the bed. It must be so nice to have all of that large area to do these cool things. I have too many ideas and not enough space, although since I am not a nursery owner I don't see how I would have the time to do all the things you do. Love the metal bed.
Okay, in the 5th photograph, just underneath the one of the bergenia, what is that fabulous grass in the middle of the background? It's tall and a nice shade of light orangy brown.
I am excited! One of my double hellebores has a bud!
Heidi
It took me 3 days to do mine on top of work work too. Thank goodness I did'nt have dial up.
So glad to see your pics, now if winter whould just move along and let us get down to what we are born to do "GARDENING"

Heidi (a.k.a Helga!) I love the pics! The nursery looks beautiful I can hardly wait to visit! Here is a new picture of Scrappy Doo for you! We got the "cat tower" yesterday and he is trying to figure out how he can reach his buddy Cleo at the top! We went to the vet yesterday for his second round of puppy shots and he is up to 15.4 lbs he is now 10 weeks old going on 11.
He's so cute
Here Kitty Kitty
Oh how cute, love those pictures.. look at Cleo go !
rachierabbit - that puppy ! look at his ears flopped over like that, too cute for words.
Hi Pixy the grass is anamanthele or phesant tail grass. It looks great in a pot because its seed heads weep way over a pot. Very pretty but it can reseed pretty good. Tilly I don't know what the red twig is it isn't midwinter fire and so far noone had I D it. I like to help people prune so who knows where it came from. I will take cuttings and share. It is just a green bush all summer. And it is really dry there so who knows what it would look with water. Heidi Scrappy doo is too cool . Makes me want to get another.
Scrappy doo looks so grown up in the Cleo pic - thank goodness he's still a pup in the ears one!
Great looking garden Heidi - but goodness, I'm not surprised you are looking a touch gladitorial!! Lift those bales, tote that barge - but don't ya just love it!
One of my clients, a lady from Australia, is divorcing her husband and going back home. One of the worst things for her is leaving their Australian Cattle Dog named Banjo. It's breaking her heart because this dog was her only comfort during the really dark times of deciding to leave. All you cattle dog lovers can send a little prayer up her way as she says goodbye to Banjo tomorrow.
Is the husband getting the dog or is she looking for a home for Banjo?
Ohhhhh. So sad. Can't she take Banjo with her? Or is he staying with the husband. So sad - breaks my heart for her. I'll keep her in my thoughts.
Rach - Scrappy is darling. I love that "looking up at you - what about my ear" picture.
I got to meet Scrappy after the winter sow! He's a wonderful puppy, very sweet!
That's really sad about Banjo. Does Australia have the really strict animal import rules like the UK?
Banjo would have to be quaranteened for several months. I'm fairly certain that they had the dog when they got here, but going back apparently is different. Plus, she is going to be living in an apartment in the city for at least a year while she gets settled into a job, etc. That's no place for a cattle dog, even if she could have him there. She wasn't crying about leaving her husband, but when she started talking about her dog, she lost it. They are not looking for a home for Banjo, but her husband is active duty australian army, stationed here at Ft. Lewis. He is special forces so he gets deployed frequently. He's been to Afghanastan and also to Iraq, more than once. I did mention to her that I had two friends who both had cattle dogs, and that both knew a lot about the breed and lived on property so that if her dh (well, he's not really a 'd'h, I guess) was deployed for a long period of time and had to place the dog, he should contact me first. She said she would tell him and that it was really good to know. Somehow I have a feeling that it's going to be harder to care for Banjo by himself than he thinks because he likes going to the war zones and gets sent there a lot.
He is a dh but not in the good definition of "dear husband" he's a "dumb husband!"
I have another word for mine DH
But I dont think I can say it on DG, has something to do with holding water back.
Funny Tills! Is he on your list today?
You might say that, just had a really bad day, and no comfort TV has priorities
MEN??????
Try sending them off to Madrid for a couple days - they really appreciate you when they get back. SOOOOOOOO nice.
Just looking for some planting combinations and I came across this website - you just have to see the photos of this garden!!! What a knock out! Be prepared for planting envy -
http://www.dryad-home.co.uk/Index.htm
oh, it just doesn't get prettier than that - love the rock garden, so nice and big, too
Oh, I know RTP - and the pictures of the summer borders! But the winter frost pictures - please let me get some structure in my beds! So right.
After seeing those, pad and pencil out and thinking. "I want to do this and that, plant that here that over there make new want list"
Good site Laurie, Love it
Mind over load LOL
