Roses ... I miss roses...
ok, I am tired today... please post pic of yuour roses... kitties... cute doggies... beauty everywhere!!!
Good night evereone!!!!
Gorgeous Kassia.
That Melody Perfume just looks like it smells heavenly.
WOW - no wonder you like roses Kassia!! They are beautiful!! Eleanor
You have such a lovely collection of roses. Very pretty!
Hi Kassia -
I was wondering if Burgundy Iceberg looked like the photos - with purple stamens instead of the usual yellow... Now I see that it does!
I'm waiting waiting waiting.... I have a garden full of roses you see, and you helped enable me into buying LOTS of minis! I have to wait until spring to see what has survived the snow, the cold, the doggies playing in the snow on top of the garden.....
Have you seen the Paul Barden roses available at Rogue Valley Roses??? To die for!!!
I only wish I had more room....
Hmmm... who needs trees anyway - they block the sun....
thanks everyone... I have more roses... and more pic too... I am trying to update the list of roses ... I did a report card for each one... lol....
I didnt' spray any bad chemicals, stayed as low maintanance as I could... this year I am going to be a bit more proactive... I have a bunch coming in April...oh that will be like xtmas!!!
Deb, I am so glad I am not alone... get to spread the joy... I am also praying for my minis... they better make it! or I will cry a lot...I have ordered just 5 this year from Sequoia... I have Hi inside my bedroom... I am good with her... she is so bushy and cute... nice plant!
The desert rose is a disapointment ... I can't help the poor thing... it's not doing well... actually I am not good with inside plants... unless is a mini rose...
Beautiful roses Kassia. I miss the color outside and can almost smell the perfume of your roses. Mmmmm, I sure do miss them. Can't wait for the growing season to start again too. I may have to try to find a spot for 'Tuscan Sun' after your recommendation. It is very pretty. With all the problems roses encounter in our area you have to be very vigilant in spraying and bug removal. I don't use harsh chemicals either and tend to get a bit lazy when the hot weather comes, but every year I swear I'm going to do a better job of keeping the leaves looking half way decent. We will see if this year will be better. Your plants look very nice and healthy. :)
Ngam, you will never regret having Tuscan Sun - I am going to try to really focus on roses this year, I planted all the irises and lillies last fall and I hope they do ok since they are reliable!
Roses are another story... my plan is to use a product from Rosemania called Mancozeb and Banner Maxx - it's chemicals but I am not going to abuse it. I would go totally organic if I could but I figure that not every rose will need it, so I am just going to spray the weaker ones.
Rugosas don't need it, and I have several rugosas. And the other thing is I am not planting zinnias with roses anymore, so the roses will have nothing next to them and the air circulation should improve!
I will keep you guys posted!!!!
Gorgeous roses Kassia. I do love to see them once again. I also have CPM and I really like it a lot. Hope it gets as pretty as yours. Another new one from last year, also an Austin rose 'Lady Emma Hamilton'. It never stopped blooming all summer once it started.

Kassia - I have Clair Matin & was told that she's a climber. She put on about 7' of growth last year - lots of canes. I had to dig her up & relocate to give her enough room to do her thing. she hasn't missed a beat & was still throwing buds into late December.
How big & how old is your CM?
thx - K
Asctgirl - yes... I got it from Merrygro... oh I am so glad mine was not the only one mislabeled - by all means that is Blaze of Glory - Social Climber is really pink...
CPM is not very big... mine are only a year old... I don't think it will cover the arbor I need it to cover... maybe if they planted in CA!!!!
Ngam - Lady Emma Hamilton looks really great... I am going to look into that!!!!
I just saw the floribundas at J&P site... oh what a temptation!!!!
Thank you Asctgirl for bumping this thread, otherwise I would never have seen Kassia's beautiful roses! Oh, they're so gorgeous!!!!
So, Kassia . . . ya like roses or somethin'? (LOL!)
just a little bit Sue!!!! lol... you could say I kind of have a special place in my heart for them!!!!
Kassia,
I was watching Paul James yesterday, and he recommended brushing the old canes and crowns of rose bushes with a wire brush to get off the old bark. He said that rejuvenated the canes and got the insects to move out.
Ever hear of that?
He was really brushing them pretty hard.
Pollyk I saw a demonstration at my local rose society doing that, after pruning, the lady cleared the mulch away from the base and used a cello (dish cleaning scrubbing sponge square thingamajig) or she said you could use a stiff brush) to clean away some of the old bark, then she sprinkled some epsom salts and said it will help with basal breaks....(I'm still new at all the roses so I may have it wrong, however this is what I saw and heard).
Samantha
never heard of it, but hey I will try on some of the roses... a good cleaning cant hurt!
