Winter sow in sun or shade?

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I may have already asked this, but since the remember part of my brain is gone, I'll ask again.
I have been putting my containers under the porch. Should I be putting them in the sun, or does it matter?

Lorraine: They don't need sun. Mine get morning sun with afternoon shade. But they do need light. If it's really dark under your deck, they might not get enough light. If it's daylight there, that's a good spot.

I placed winter sowed containers on my front verandah last year - it means, of course, that you can't rely on Mother Nature for rain - you will have to water containers.

Mine go on my stone patio - southern exposure all day.

They don't get a lot of sun I guess, because they are under the porch, but I have them close to the edge, they get light. I just didn't know if they needed to be in rain, etc. They pretty damp because they are shade.
Anyway, Bout the time they come in to chain me and take me off to the old folks home. I'll know everything

Now all I have to do is go pick up all those contai ers and put them back where they were

last year, my first year.... i babied my containers WAY too much... constantly moving them around... but their final resting place was my front porch. they would get a few hours of morning sun [and once they were seedlings, i'd be out there moving them even more, so they'd get more sun]

with you being in the south, none of your are frozen, correct? if not, you will have to watch to make sure they dont dry out.
for mine... i'd just add some snow .. but had to water daily once it was warmer out.

the reason i moved them there was for wind. I do not have much to block howling winds... so this protected them.... plus putting them in card board boxes helped too.

Thanks, I was worried. Of course I will until they are all 8 ft. tall,
since this is my first year to winter sow. No, they haven't frozen although it has gotten below freezing a few times.
Of course, I wouldn't know because it can be 21` degrees at night and early morning. By the time I'm outside, it's up to 70 degrees so they would have thawed anyway.
I did notice a few things were coming up, so I hope they aren't ruined

You want the containers in the element so Mother Nature will water them for you. Remember, this is instead of directly sowing the seeds, as nature does, on the ground. It protects the seeds from washing away in heavy rains, yet still get watered. It also protects them from being eaten by scavengers and you can decide where the plant grows.
