Pudding cups as containers?

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I noticed that the little jiffy pots you buy at Walmart, etc. are about the same size as the little pudding cups I get. The tall ones not the round ones.
Why couldn't I use those to winter sow? I know they would be a lot of trouble, but I have containers I could put them in.
What do you thinK?

Too small for me. In Texas heat I think they would dry too fast

I hadn't thought of that. I'm just desperate!!! I only use the half gallon milk cont. and can't seem to get anyone to remember and save them;

Watch the news, you'll probably see an article about the arrest of an old woman going through trasg cabs, They are still not sure what she was doing

someone in here uses large ziploc baggies, with a cloth pin at the top.... for a WS container. You'd get the 4 inches of soil and plenty of ventilation... hopefully someone will recall who that was... but yes, those cups will be too shallow.

Or raid recycle bins on trash night. Know anyone who buys drinking water in gallon jugs? Also some folks get the jugs from Starbucks, daycare centers... Some of your friends and neighbors must drink milk.

Have you checked the Dollar Store for containers? They may have styrofoam cups or plastic drink cups -- several in a package for only $1.

This is my third year using ziplock baggies. I have had no trouble with them and get a great germination rate.

Betty -- do you have an image, so others can see how you did it?
I know there's an image somewhere, as i saw it last year.

All you need is something to put 4 inches of dirt in, that can drain excess water and is covered.

So I will be using the cardboard lids from boxes of computer paper. I can get oodles of these from where I work. I will cover them with a cheap kitchen-catcher garbage bag. I will pierce through the garbage bag and the cardboard, then fill with soil, plant the seeds, and cover. I think that will work just fine :-).

I did these on Dec 31st. Zebra mallow and cosmos are already sproting.

Ya'll are all so smart.
I really love the idea of the styrofoam (did I spell that right) I've asked all my kids to save them, but you know how that goes.
I will also get my lazy self to the store and buy some.
ANyway, thanks for the help. I need all the help I can get.
