I have to work tonight and tomorrow night, so I won't be on here much til probably Wednesday or Thursday, so I am getting my pics in! lol
Here's one I got last summer at a creek near the house. Something must have been dead in there. Not the best pictures, but the best I have been able to get.
Daily Pics. Vol. #52
Deb...nice pics of the Junco...I have yet to get one that is any good. They always seem to blend into the background. That is a cute little Warbler!
Creek! Very nice pics of our local birds!! That pic of the Downy throwing his feed cracks me up! I can't believe all the birds you get at your feeder...you are sure lucky!!
Gardener105...I love those California Quail...they are so beautiful! Always makes me homesick when I see them!
Here is a cute little Male Downy Woodpecker posing on the tree branch.
I usually see the IBB's in the Spring.
Great pictures dellrose! Are those female Cowbirds?
Beautiful Blue Bunting CW! I wish I was in a warmer climate when I see some of these pics.
Thanks Creek! I can hardly wait to see the IBB this spring! I have never seen one and as I've said before I can't wait to see what spring brings to the Ozarks!
I do believe the Cowbirds are both females...the males are almost black with dark brown heads (I hope that's right...I am still very new to this)! When I took those pics I thought I had discovered a new bird then I viewed them on my puter screen! LOL!
Hi guys, very nice pics!!
Just so we don't confuse anyone the name is only Indigo Bunting.
Heres a page on them.
http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/Indigo_Bunting.html
thanks Pelle :-)!
Thanks Pelle...I am anxiously awaiting their return!!
I would love to see them. :-)
We get a few in the spring, passing through.
I found another birding spot near the Delaware river so I'm hoping to get there this Spring. :-)
Pelle, our Conservation Dept here calls them Indigo Blue Buntings. They even posted a big article in their monthly magazine once about them and called them that. I'm confused?
Creekwalker, If your Conservation Dept. is posting articles using "Indigo Blue Bunting", the author is the one terribly confused! (Demonstrating questionable professional level research prior to publishing) There isn't any known reputable reference source to support the inclusion of "Blue" in the name of the Indigo Bunting, Passerina cyanea.
Attached, is one more Bald Eagle picture from yesterday. Today we are back to heavy overcast, too dark for bird photography.
Gary
Gary, very very nice!!!
Hi CW, I don't know how to answer you since I don't know why your
Conservation Dept. would call them something different from all the most widely recognized American Field Guides etc. Its sort of odd because Indigo means "blue dye" so I'm not sure why they would repeat with the word blue. Maybe this is what they called it in the past there and just continued?
I see why.your confused by them but if you check good National Field Guides like;
Sibley,Stokes.,National Audubon etc. along w/ the Cornell site its listed as
Indigo Bunting.
Sorry its confusing but we're just trying to stick w/ the most nationally
recognized name.
Funny! when oppurtunity knocks...
Creek, I love the pic of the Indigo Bunting glaring at the Goldfinch. So much color at one feeder!
I'm hoping to be able to see IB's here in central TX too. Do you have any suggestions on plants they prefer? One site said they like "unruly lawns" with dandelions, etc. I have a lot of native stuff (just built a house on 3.5 acres) but I wasn't really planning on letting it get "unruly".
I was just browsing the Coneflowers forum and got the bug to be a "conehead" this year. Anyone know if IB's would be interested in cones?
I am going to have to appologize to the Missouri Dept of Conservation for saying they called them Indigo Blue Buntings, though I would still like to see that magazine again. I found it in their magazine archives and they only referenced them as Indigo Buntings. I got that blue from somewhere though. :p Anyway, my appologies to everyone!
No apology needed CW! :-)
CW, probably because they are such a beautiful blue color you just had to say it twice!! :-)
Very nice pic of the Dark-eyed Junco dellrose!
Cute pics nanny! Love the titmouse!
CW..don't worry about it, I'm sure you did read it someplace...no harm done!
Nanny...nice pics and I have yet to get a decent shot of the Titmouse!!!
Pelle...thanks so much. I finally started throwing cracked corn around a couple of brush piles and the birds have been eating it! I started out trying to attract Bobwhite Quail but have many other birds eating it as well! I sat in a fence row in the shade yesterday and waited for a while and finally the Junco's showed up. They were very shy and I had to stay still but was finally able to get a few shots. I have all kinds of birds eating there now and it is another place to watch and visit! I just love this birding!
Super-duper pics everyone!
Rose~ It does look a bit rearranged, maybe just a place it can't reach to preen, I hope.. We'll see what others say...
Love those TVs CW!!
Such a great time of year for birding!
