Simple as that. I don't have any so please, share yours!
What's Your Favorite Gardening Quote?
TNN, I love gardening quotes, one of my faves is, "When you throw dirt, you lose ground." lol
You don't have any? Not a one?
"To a gardener there is nothing more exasperating than a hose that just isn't long enough."
So true! LOL
"Leave room in the Garden for the Angels to Dance"
"I'm in therapy and gardening is cheaper than a psychiatrist!"
Wildflowers are the smiles of Nature, is my favorite.
All good ones!
Fly Girl, no I really don't. There is one phrase I liked way back but don't even know it by heart or the author. Something about a real gardener plants trees he knows only his grandchildren will sit under.
I have come to terms with the future. From this day onward I will
walk easy on the earth. Plant trees. Kill no living things. Live in
harmony with all creatures. I will restore the earth where I am.
Use no more of its resources than I need. And listen, listen to
what it is telling me.
- M. J. Slim Hooey
Amen!
And couldn't resist adding this one:
An agricultural adage says the tiny animals that live below the
surface of a healthy pasture weigh more than the cows grazing
above it. In a catalogue selling composting equipment I read
that two handfuls of healthy soil contain more living organisms
than there are people on the earth. What these beings are and
what they can be doing is difficult to even begin to comprehend,
but it helps to realize that even thought they are many,
they work as one.
- Carol Williams, Bringing a Garden to Life, 1998
This is one of my favorites too
Friend, may your garden be an extension of God's beautiful Creation, and may your work be an example for others to follow. --Josephine Keeney.
This is something that I saw posted on GW. I can't remember who posted it, so please forgive me for not giving them credit. I just thought that it was beautiful and so true. I wish that I could put my feelings into words like this.
In the garden I love the never-ending canvas feeling that I can never make a mistake that can't be fixed with a little time.
Necia
In the serenity of the Japanese Garden
Man sits and listens to the birds
And contemplates the world
If he can also hear the tinkle of ice in the glass of whiskey in his hand
That man is truly in Paradise
The only kind of low maintenance gardening... is the kind you do on your knees.
Overheard at the Wildflower Center.
Vita Sackville-West:
The most noteworthy thing about gardeners is that they are always optimistic, always enterprising, and never satisfied. They always look forward to doing something better than they have ever done before.
This comes from a lovely website that has lots of quotes. I always find it difficult to choose a favorite.

"Aside from the garden of Eden, man's great temptation took place when he first received his seed catalogue. " (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)
I don't have any quotes (although I love all of yours!) I just wanted to say, Tir, I love all of the threads that you start!

"Don't bend over in the garden, grannie. Them 'taters got eyes" - Book by Lewis Grizzard.

gardens are a form of autobiography.
"Always put that 50 cent plant in a 5 dollar hole" (must have been back when you could BUY a plant for 50 cents.............
GOOD ONE!
Yeah, didn't know there was such a thing as a .50 cent plant! LOL
From the Clearance racks next to clearly dead plants....on occasion there are living 25 cent plants.
One is never closer to God than in a garden.... I dont know the author but I can relate to the feeling. Should I ever win the lottery, I would plan my travels by seeing the great gardens of the world. Any one care to start my list, or is that a wholely different thread..... (is wholey a word?????)
chood, that would be a great new thread. Just start it and they will come. hahaha
Many years ago, I saw an ad with a picture of the Van Gogh painting of Iris. The caption said something like: "The artist who painted these flowers went insane. It's a good bet that the artist that grew them didn't."
It was an ad for Miracle Grow!
"It all started in a garden."
Gardening requires lots of water - most of it in the form of perspiration.
- Lou Erickson
Early to bed, early to rise,
Work like hell: fertilize.
- Emily Whaley, Charleston, N.C
And one of my faves......God made rainy days so gardeners could get the housework done. ~Author Unknown
"But anyone who practices organic gardening knows that it is made up of a huge volume of hints, tips, ideas and practices—some of which, when tried, work and some don't, despite the fact that the organic gardener just down the road did exactly the same thing and got incredible results. "
I feel very sure that this phrase most definitely applies to moi.
And me!
"You reap what you sow" I love that one, because it's so true in many aspects of this life & universe!
My favorite is from Oscar Wilde: "There is no such thing as a weed. It is merely an herb for which there has yet been found a use." Think about all the medicines ( from Aspirin to Digitalis to Echinacea to ..... ) that originated with plants. Jim
"Grow where you're planted."
This one was odd for me because it came through as one of my daily inspirations from my mobile carrier, right after discovering this thread, & was thinking about a phrase to come up with!): "Earth laughs in flowers" From - Ralph Waldo Emerson Michelle
