There are an awful lot of forums and I didn't know this forum was here until someone from another forum told me about it.
I'm glad there is a Lily Forum!
I just ordered this Oriental Lily and want to share it with all of you. It's a beauty.
"Miss Lucy" is the name and it has quite a unique history behind it.
Info:
By a pure stroke of luck, New Zealand grower John Blay discovered this new lily growing among his crop of soft pink 'Marco Polo' Oriental lilies. He contacted his Dutch associate, Pieter Hoff, who was amazed with the new flower. He named it ‘Miss Lucy’.
An avid historian, Mr. Hoff contacted the Dutch national museum, The Palace Het Loo, which is one of the Queen’s palaces in Apeldoorn, Holland. While visiting, he was intrigued by the story of William of Orange and Mary Stuart. As a celebration of their marriage, they commissioned the building of the beautiful palace. Princess Mary always kept the inside rooms filled with beautiful cut flowers and collected many new introductions in her day for her outstanding gardens. During the 17th century, royalty came from all over Europe to visit and admire her castle and gardens. To continue the tradition of new introductions in Dutch
horticulture, it seemed only fitting to Mr. Hoff that this new amazing lily be grown at Palace Het Loo. Today, if you visit The Palace, you will find ‘Miss Lucy’ growing in large antique urns all around the grounds. Its delightful fragrance fills the indoor salons for the pleasure of the visitors.
‘Miss Lucy’ is a unique, multi-petalled lily that doesn’t have any stamens; this is a great advantage for a cut flower! Stamens produce the pollen which can mar a table setting or accidentally stain an outfit. Cut flowers also
last longer in vases when there are no stamens,
so an arrangement of ‘Miss Lucy’ lilies can often live up to twelve days in your home! ‘Miss Lucy’ lilies can be container-grown or planted directly in your garden. According to Mr Hoff, “Lilies grow in every soil type, in the sun or part shade, and do not need any fertilizer. With a height of 40-48", they are the perfect garden plant. They flower for weeks because the plant branches and carries many flowers. Their soft pink color harmonizes with every border combination. Each year the plant will flower more profusely.”

New to this Forum
Miss Lucy sure is a beauty, she is on my wish list too.
Thanks for the history behind her.
It was on my wish list for a couple three years too. I couldn't take it anymore, so I got them for spring shipping this year.
I only hope I can learn enough in this forum so I can make as many new ones as I possibly can out of one of the plants. (I ordered 3 of them)
There is a lot of learning to do in this forum.

Welcome, Darrell ~ we're glad you found us!
Glad you found the Lily Forum, Darrell. Lots of good company for those that love lilies. I got Miss Lucy a couple of years ago and it is a really pretty flower.
I'm glad I found this forum too. Thank you for the welcome.
Welcome Darrell! Your post has me eager, once again, for lily season.
I grew some doubles last year, including 'Miss Lucy'. The paler color of 'Miss Lucy' does much better in cooler climates, I do not get that pronounced color, even in part shade. Still, I adore those fluffy flowers.
Here's one of my doubles from last summer, I bought it from Faraway Flowers (which is a current co-op going on right now) and because of the richer colors, they seemed to do better for me.

Here is 'Lady Jayne', if I am remembering correctly. I enjoyed pairing these with coneflowers and cosmos. It was a nice treat in the garden.
Again, welcome.
Oh Wow! I'm sitting here in awe.
I went to the web site and it's in the US. I don't think they will ship to Canada. Although, the web site ends with .ca, which is short for Canada.
That place has some beauties, doesn't it? I'd sure buy a few from them.
I sent them an email asking if they can ship here.
Thanks!
Darrell
Those are listed in the co-op too, and the price is less and if she ships there, she combines shipping with co-op orders with those from the website.
It's good to see another lily lover has found us ;)
We love it when people post pictures in growing season of what's blooming, so be sure to share some here, will you?
I hate to tempt you if they don't ship there, but just in case they do, I wanted to show you a Japanese Hybrid I grew last summer that was spectacular, it's called 'Madame Butterfly', a very strong, unique looking beauty, such large flowers, and the color, just very peaceful.
I would have never thought of describing a Lily as being "very peaceful". But when I saw the picture of your "Madame Butterfly", in full screen, it was exactly that, "Peaceful". It makes me sit and just go "Ahhhhhh" and gives me a pleasant smile.
How do I get involved with the co-op, magnolialover? I guess I'm going to have to find a friend here at Dave's to help me get the lilies here from Faraway Flowers. She isn't able to ship to me here in Canada. But, that doesn't mean I can't get them.
Someone would have to send the bulbs to me as a gift. I'm thinking that maybe someone in the co-op would be willing to send them to me.
Darrell
Let me do some "digging". I'm not sure how it could work, or if it could.
getting a phyto is the best way.

magnolialover,
The lady who has the lilies asked me if I knew anyone coming to New Brunswick from Maine and I told her that I do have friends who come here to visit all the time, but I don't know when they will be coming this year.
She mentioned something about the co-op here at Dave's and she added that she use to send bulbs here, a couple years ago, before she opened her doors as a business, but doesn't know if you can still send to Canada or not.

Welcome Darrell,
What a beauty, I will have to add her to my want list too, I did not see her on the Faraway Lily Co-op? I better look again,
I wish I knew of a safe way to get you some great deals from the Co-op's, Like Mags said getting a phyto would be your best bet.
:)Anita
Thank you, NYVOICES.
I don't know what phyto is.
PHYTO is a phytosaniotary inspection required for export/import -- an inspection to determine if plant material is healthy and/or undesirable for introduction to the country (such as invasine varieties.) This is usually obtained at some cost depending on where you live (that is, which state of the US). Standards vary from state to state and by US regulation and the country to which the shipment is sent.
I have been looking at Miss Lucy on the dutchgardens.com website since last year. I think that it is such a pretty flower. Does anyone know why they would charge more for the white lily versus the mixed colors (basicly pink)? Dutchgardens charges $35 for 6 mixed bulbs, and $50 for 6 white bulbs.

Mainiac, I just sent you an email. LOL
I just went to Dutch Gardens to check out the site. They have some super nice things there. But like always, they don't ship to Canada.
Man, I'm never going to get nice things at this rate!
Oh... never fear ~ there are MANY wonderful growers in Canada.
penne ~ you might want to check out this co-op here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/794586/ A couple of the doubles are in that co-op http://farawayflowers.vstore.ca/index.php/cName/double-orientals/osCsid/97796f1a1c77c3ad1152a424ece12d0d
Dutchgardens charges $35 for 6 mixed bulbs, and $50 for 6 white bulbs.
Mixed are more than likely ones that have lost the tags & the white is what it should be, A better example is a no name Daylily worth $2-$10 & a named Daylily worth $2.00- $200.00, If you know what you are getting you ( I )will pay more for it. Hope this makes sense to you:)Anita
DCarrington, try doing a search in the Garden Watchdog. You can put in Canada as part of the search, and just come up with Canadian companies that sell bulbs or lilies.
Moby, thanks for the link. I did take a look at their lilies.
Anita, thanks for the information.
Here are some Canadian resources for you ~

Anita, if I do ordered the mixed colors for Miss Lucy, and plant them together, will they all eventually become mixed colors or will I still have some white lillies in a few years?
Last year I got the mixed doubles from Dutch Gardens as a Christmas Gift & guess what?? They were all 'Dizzy' (not any doubles at all), which is a lovely oriental, but had I not ordered the named varieties from Faraway Flowers myself, I would have been sunk.
I guess what I am saying is I wouldn't count on Dutch Gardens to come through for you. Faraway Flowers, yes ;)
I've been to all those sites Moby. I'm worn out from looking at sites. LOL
Thank you by the way for giving me the link for the Co-Op. Ramona and I are trying to work something out for shipping to Canada. Actually, I think she is getting further with it than I am. :)
they just added miss lucy to the co-op list
only 8.00!
Hi everyone,I thought the miss Lucy was a white lily.Do they come in colors too now?I have been drooling over it for a couple of yrs now.
