Get out and VOTE!!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

It's o.k. Christi, everything will be just fine, give yourself a little time Kid.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))) and tissues all around

Even though it was canceled doesn't mean it can't happen down the road some day...I know I really enjoyed the RU in Arlington even though it was my first and the first time I got to meet some Real people since I had just moved here.

I think we should work on doing one bigger and better here in Texas this year.
and we can still invade Broncs for a party.
From everything I have read on the forums in the last 5 months I think we all know enough places that we could ask them to join us as far as vendors or something.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Same here - maybe we could get everything working for something on the local DG here in North Texas bigger and better. I know the local Gardenweb group asked two years ago to merge the two events so that would bring up up over 200 people.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

mm not sure I can make enough pms pie for 200 though ..rofl

i am willing to talk to the people at Chamblee's IF when the time gets closer you want me to see if any one from there would care to come and talk on roses?
I have yet to make it to Blue Moon but they are one to contact too maybe.
IF you want anything like either of them.

then we could let others in DG know that way IF they care to come they are welcome to do so.

start small then grow bigger as it grows

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

The Greenery in Waxahchie too... they are nice.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

ok so who, what else to think on for this years????
maybe check with the local place you mentioned above and see if they area still interested????

Or we start with everyone from this last years RU and ask them for ideas and go from there...or you, frostweed and LouC talk and see what ya think?

ya know I'll help where I can and am needed

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Sure thing - I love this the idea is great - let me call a few places, and maybe LouC can too... we can plan this thing out biger and better.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

of course this means no matter where you are you have to come this year LOL

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Right.

I will be there -

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

good cause I would hate to think I would make pie and you not be there and Bronc have to eat it all

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

lol - you know we would eat that pie any day of the week...

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

MMM...pie!

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Now we're talking! I would really like to be involved in planning something like this, if I knew it was going to be in this area. It's a lot easier to put on an event if you're local.

Here's the thing. If we aren't talking about arranging flights, hotels, etc., the whole idea just got a LOT simpler. There would still be the problem of a dinner somewhere, but that could be arranged by reservations (paid in advance).

We had, what, 75+ people at the DFW RU in October? That's a pretty good start for a banquet of some kind. If we didn't call it "the DFW RU", I'll bet a lot more people would come from other areas. If we made it a weekend event--included vendors with coupons and incentives, and maybe a trip to the Arboretum or BG--they'd have even more reason.

I think something like that would grow. Baby steps. :) Maybe we could start a fund, voluntary donations, to help get this thing off the ground. Then in a year or so maybe we'd have enough for deposits, etc.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

It doesn't have to be THIS year, but I'd like to have a Roundup in Waxahachie one year. Waxahachie is a GORGEOUS town with lots of gardeners(who are not on DG?), and the park is very old and has alot of HUGE oak trees and big pavilions. There's lots of landscaping companies, nurseries, and the like in Waxahachie that would get in on the act. We are the crepe myrtle capital of Texas, you know.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

true - and it is stunning... I love Waxahachie... would be a nice change of pace maybe? What about somthing like-

Plant swap early AM, some shopping and maybe a trip to see a garden, then PM party at Broncs place?

We can make it bigger but would be a bang up day.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

We could go ahead and have this in the Spring if ya'll wanted - less plant trade more good time with friends.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i'm going to go out on a limb and say that dawnintx and myself would come to this. whatever is decided is fine with me.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I for one would really like to have a swap in the spring.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I would like that too, but i don't want to miss the one in College Station.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

All I have to say is let me know a couple weeks in advance so I can make sure I am able to get off from the restaurant to be able to come and I did say I would help how ever I can and I meant that too.
If I can get the seeds ordered I want to my veggie garden I bet I'll have extras if they sprout like I hope...so I might have those to trade but just getting together would be great too sad to say with the hours I work I don't' have much time to go out and meet anyone to hang out with or do anything with .....so y'all are my new found Texas Friends and being on here is my way of hangin out with my friends.

And yes I will bring some pies ......LOL

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

We're talking on another thread about the RU in College Station, but if whenever the two places settle on a date, I can definitely come to one in Waxahachie. I have an aunt that lives in Red Oak.

Anne

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Oooo, I'm glad to hear about a RU in CS! I hope it's in spring. A fall RU is difficult for me, but possible if it's in Nov.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Mitch .....sounds like something is brewing, but the thread is a bit confusing with the "vote" title. Can you start a new thread please.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Sure thing

Nevada, TX(Zone 8a)

mama, you're not going too far out on a limb. I'm definitely interested. Are we bringing the kids or should we leave them all with Linda, LOL.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

College Station round up thread is tentatively either March 8th or March 15th. Not totally settled yet but if you want to come go to the thread and voice your preference for a date.

Anne

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

dawn, if we want to see them again we might oughta take 'em with us. lol. and who knows she might even go with us. i think both e.v. and jack actually enjoyed going to the last swap. now are we talking about the possible to be decided waxahachie swap or the college station swap?

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

This is just a FYI about College Station. It's settled on March 15th.

Nevada, TX(Zone 8a)

both

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

it's a fer piece to CS. lol.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

That's ok, I'm thinking that I'd like to come to the Dallas/Ft. Worth one.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Allright, this is looking good.

I didn't open this thread because i thought it was a political thang...my curiosity finely got the best of me. Sorry to hear about the convention. I 'm sure it will happen some day. Between Melva's, Bronc's, CS roundup, and Waxahachie there is plenty to do! I'll need to stay home and garden sometime.lol

I wanted remind East Texans the Grand Saline Bloom'n Festival is this year is March 28th. Vendors, speakers and such. I'll e-mail them for a list of events to post here. They offered a place for Dg'ers to park and gather in the shade.

It would be nice to do a swap at the same time. I've Winter Sowed this year. Since it's my first attempt i,m not sure what will be up and available....but I'm optimistic there will be something :0)

It's an hour from Dallas, so I hope the East Texans will keep this mind.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

aaaaaaaaaah! it's the chocolatier! do remind us of that event. i am going to see if dawn wants to go too. i love that part of the country where you live cocoa. it is so pretty and uncrowded...at least the last time i was there.

Nevada, TX(Zone 8a)

OK, I just added this to my calendar. Looks like a busy spring! Mama, I assume we will be carpooling?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

I AM just scheduling you all over girl. gotta watch out for me. yes we will carpool. our kids have to go to grand saline. it is so pretty.

cocoa, where is that place you can take your kids to fish down there? it might be gun barrel city or athens though. the more i think about it i am sure it's athens.

Oh so happy ya'll are interested, East is stunning in the Spring!

Mama, I think you're thinking of The East Texas Wildlife and Fishery. I think its in Athens. My kids have been there on field trips. We are surrounded by big lakes, tho i've never taken my kids to any of them. We have a 2 acer lake in the front yard and the previous owner raised cat fish in a lot of smaller connected ponds in the back yard. No need to go fishing anywhere else :0)

i've got to leave for the night, will post more info later
