Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I'll check and see when I get home. Let you know tomorrow.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Great - Have fun in this warm weather - where did winter go?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Don't get to excited Mitch, it will be back!!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I know... I would much rather have it all at once then back and forth...

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Ain't that the truth! It is really uncomfortable tonight. In the last 2 weeks I have purchased 50#'s each alfalfa pellets, corn meal, and dried molasses. This weekend happened into a Mike's Garden Center. EVERYTHING IS 50% OFF.
Purchased 2 large bottles of Super Thrive. Ought to last the rest of my life. Today purchased 4-22gal tubs from Wallyworld (I know, I hate the place).
Had to have something to keep all of the above from the rats. Went to Walgreen's and got Epsom Salt. If you go back a ways you will see I am waaaay sold on ES. Measured the lasagna garden that is cooking. 21' long X 11'. Mike is of the opinion we could buy some really good veggies for what this is adding up to. Still don't have sides figured in for a raised bed and then there is more manure.
Am I fooling myself?

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Nope - garden dreaming... garden dreaming...

Sounds like you have it down pat, cannot wait to see your garden in full fruit this summer.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey, friend. Need all the help I can get.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

You have all you need say the word and I am there.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

God Bless You.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

My boss got the call today, so she now knows I am leaving - they needed to make for sure I was who I was I guess. It was good - we cried and prayed. It was great - it is good to have people around you who know what matters...

Take my help while I am still here to help!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow Kid, we are gonna miss you!!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I know - going to be like Ted and be a DG Texan.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I have prayed with you for this to happen...why am I crying now?

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Tears or joy maybe?

I hope...

Dont forget we need to make a date to go see the tropical folks in Red Oak

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

well ya want rambling here???

Mitch will have to see ya move but you will have to come back for the RU's of course just to visit us and just cause you moved doesn't' mean you have to leave the Texas forums does it???? I don't think so and my vote is no you can stay LOL

I ordered some seeds last week and they are here!!!! I got some tropicals to try my hand at ....stephanitis floribunda, magnolia champaca and Larus nobilis....nwo I really want to get a back hoe out ehre and get the dang bamboo roots gone so I can get some manure and compost in there and get it ready for a veggie garden as I do have a few seeds from last year I could start in side and put out when the time is right.

My folks just called from Mission and they went into Mexico today and she told me what she had found and the prices to make sure of what I wanted ...ie vanilla, etc and I sent several vases with her as they take them over and a kid paints them while you are there then they are ready to pick up on your way back into Texas...I told her she could bring me back a pineapple plant, a grapefruit tree and a banana tree too she said she might have to stay there so they could fit it all in ....hahahahaha

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I will still be here in the Texas forum! Never worry - and Round Ups well I have to be there right?

Mexico - can they bring plants back from Mexico?

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I don't know but they can from southern Texas which is where they are til the first of Feb.

She was telling me about he pineapple they were getting at a store and how they peel it and cut the core out right there and now good it was and the bananas I thought of them when I was reading another section and there was talk of bananas trees

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Makes my mouth water.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

mine too that is why I told her grapefruit tree banana and pineapple plants LOL

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, I'm up REALLY late (sleep schedule is really off kilter the last few days) so I'm finally taking the opportunity to catch up on some of the threads that I've been missing. Here I am, scratching my head, Mitch, where are you moving to? Did I miss the post up there or my eyes just full of sleep?

Good idea...this Texas chat thread.

As far as bringing things back from Mexico, I found this online at the Mexican Consulate website:

Prohibited Imports

Upon entering the U.S. from Mexico, certain articles are either prohibited or subject to various quarantines, limitations or special permit requirements. Those articles include all narcotics or drugs, weapons, certain trademarked articles, most fruits, vegetables, plants, animals, birds and meats, and products made from the hides, shells, feathers, or teeth of endangered species. If you are unsure of regulations governing the import of a wildlife product, check with local authorities of U.S. Embassy before making a purchase. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Division of Law Enforcement, P.O. box 28006, 23rd St., NW, Washington, DC 20037, can provide information.

I have a friend who always brings me vanilla with no problem (at least not in the last year and I'm almost out!). I knew certain cacti were prohibited because they're being overforested...everyone seems to want them in their landscapes north of the border. I just didn't realize that all plants are prohibited. I wonder how much that is enforced.

BTW - now that I think about it, I can;t recall any Mexican DG'ers. I'm going to have to go and look to see if we have any to introduce myself. We should know our friend south of the border.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm not seeing any subscribers. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. No one from any parts of South America except Puerto Rico. What a loss.....the best garden help I ever had was from Columbia and he taught me some great things. Not just in the garden but with my cats too. He pruned everything to perfection for me and I can only wish that I was a perfect student. Still, nothing I do compares to his work.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

There is very little on Daves in Spanish... and saddly having lived there it is the lower class who tend the gardens and they dont know english. I know I smuggled some taro root one time... did not get caught but it did not grow and just rotted in the ground. I was crushed. I have tried to mail things out of Mexico plant wise and some made it but most I got a notice and once I had a fine for big no no plant stuff... the pig no no - avacado pit... go figure.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey! I've got a great big pile of untreated 4x4's here at work, and they are free for the taking. Anyone know a natural way to weatherproof wood, alot of wood. Let me know if any of y'all want these 4x4's. Most of them are oak.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey, bronc. Think they would work for a raised bed? Veggie bed? Measured yesterday and the area we have cookin' is 11x21. That's because it's where the tree and the monkey grass are/were.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

well we have ursula from chile on here. she is the only one i know of. and where is babalu from? south america somewhere i think.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Christi, no doubt they would work perfectly. The question is how long will they last untreated. You are welcome to as many as you want/need. I'll even deliver them to you since you are so close.

As far as my tomatoes went last year, I fared well with the Celebrity and Sungold (cherry) and the Arkansas Traveler. We are very fortunate to have two local nurseries who do a great job of finding the tomatoes that take the intense heat we have here - The Natural Gardener and Barton Springs Nursery, both in Austin. I have wanted to try the Texas A&M Superstar 444 tomato but have not been able to find a plant. I see some people say they have the seed but as it is a hybrid, I am unsure of whether it will be true or not. Any thoughts?

Hey y'all it's Gymgirl's Birthday.

Happy BD - hope you get some stuff for your garden.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Treating them - easy let them turn in time to become the new compost on the edges! They would be perfect for that project!! Perfect.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We have a few subscribers from South and Central America... not very many, though, and none from Mexico.

Brazil - 2
Argentina - 2
Costa Rica - 4
Chile - 3
Panama - 3
Puerto Rico - 2 :-)

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Very cool to know. Costa Rica - last I knew would let you ship orchids in and out with out toooo much trouble.

Missouri City, TX

I saw at least one from Puerto Rico in Tropical Forum.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Whoops... I thought I had them on the list. Sorry!! :-)

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

The forum - Internationalizing DG - that Dave started sometime ago had an intended purpose of expanding into a worldwide gardening organization.
Language barriers, import restrictions and financing were among topics discussed. The effort seems to have become sidetracked; I hope the momentum will resume.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Hey Bronc how long are they?
we have an enclosed trailer but if they are over 8 ft we would have to cut them to fit.
and by a big pile you mean more then 50?
I think I might have DH interested in taking some.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

They are 8ft. 50 would not be a problem.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I absolutely love starting seeds....something fun I can do with the small space I've got. And this year I finally have a head start on them for once. I've got Ponderosa Red and Sun King tomatoes started (only seeds I had yet), several peppers, a variety of butterfly plants, and some herbs. Several, including the tomatoes, are already up. Three flats in all plus 8 winter sowing containers, my first time winter sowing this year too. And I've got more seeds to start after these ones get going. I ordered some new tomatoes this year to try, will start them as soon as they arrive. Supposed to be good in the heat.

I've been thinking already about the spring RU in College Station....has anyone else? Not eager for spring, am I? Lol......

Kim
