mmm Hey Randy ya wanna come to my house and help me plan and do my gardens????
got 2.4 acres here and would just love to have it looking that great this next year *giggles*

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh boy! hog wild on 2.4 acres!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Yeah tell me about it ...the ideas I have and the wants are just way to many for my time and pocket book right now LOL

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

mibus, tell me again where flint is? don't you worry...your spaces are going to fill up. are you planning on starting seeds this year? what are starting?

thanks for all of your pictures randy.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I need help installing irrigation system. I have almost 2 acres and it takes me over an hour to water just what I have in the front yard. I really want to start some brugs in the back (southeast) side in the Spring, but DBF and I are absolutely mechanically declined. I'm thinking of throwing a barbeque and inviting folks over to help with it. I'm getting desperate. I know that Lowes and HD have the materials, I just don't have to know how or understanding of how to make it work with all the beds that I have.

Anne

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

What a nice tour. You have a eye for design and eloquent as well.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

mama .....flint is south of Tyler but I am really closer to Chandler..If you were to do a mapquest for chandler then zoom in , follow 31 east and find 2661....that is my road.... then follow it to 1130 that corner is one house from mine. If I were to walk out my driveway and across the road through the trees I would end up on the shore of Lake Palestine....so go figure why I have a Flint address have yet to be in Flint LOL

I figured I would try starting some seeds inside to plant outside come spring flower and veggie both.
Just have to figure out where ti put a veggie garden if not in the terrace behind the house ...with the dang bamboo roots behind it I am not sure where to go with it. then to decide where to put flower beds.

How's it going Randy? Great day for gardening today, no? ;)
Debbie

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey Deb, great week for gardening..been on vacation~!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

mibus, you are close to charlenesplants. do you know her? i think my kids and i are going to go and spend a weekend at charlenes place this summer. maybe we will see you.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes Randy, just perfect weather--I've been out working almost all day, every day, since January 4th. Still, as always, much more to do. I reluctantly must whack down the monstrous Rangoon Creeper tomorrow or Sunday. It is huge.....

Here's some winter bulbs blooming---Freesia laxa subsp azurea. Been a very good year for all 10 Freesia species (as well as lots of other stuff too). Got a few other bulbs blooming too, as well as Narcissus.

Those are very striking!

Funny...I'm whacking my Rangoon this weekend too. It's giant too.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I really hate to do it before last frost but the fence 8' behind it (and the one its partly "sprawled" over) is going to be replaced soon--by the subdivision (free to me--and no one knows exactly when). Not really sure why they have decided to do that, no one needs a new fence yet. We are just hoping they put up a 10' or 12' replacement. I think it will be just fine--its getting quite old and is well established there. I think if it were going to die it would have frozen when it was much smaller. I will just mulch it extra heavy.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

mama I meet her at the RU and If i remember right I had gotten a rose bush for her and brought it with me but no I don't know where she lives.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I cut mine back every year and it grows right back.
I haven't even made it to the front garden yet.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, Randy - it was awesome and fun. Your gardens are an inspiration! The DG friends were so fun to meet, and I'd bet we had the equivalent of a small nursery business there! I'd be up for a reprise of last summer for sure.

If anyone is interested heck in on the College Station RU forum - it's March 15.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

AuntAnne, I caught your request back on the previous post. Maybe you would get some response if you opened a new thread.
Sylvia had a need and several of us got together and helped out. Got her irrigation system almost done in one day.
You are a bit too far for me to come help...good luck.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I figured that I was being ignored, lol. Maybe I will this fall. I've got several other projects slated for the next few weeks/months. Going to turn an unused garage into a greenhouse (going to post pics on another thread), tearing down an old shed and collapsed greenhouse. I need to rebuild the bed outside of the arbor bec. it is too low on the south end and water stands there. I also have plans for the flower bed from the end of my front porch to the end of the trailer. Mom built it and planted crape myrtles about 20 yrs ago. We've re taken the beds from the other end to that point and I want to finish the front this spring. So plenty to do for the time being.

Anne

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I will watch for your rebuilding thread.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I've been popping in and out ..been on vacation...what post number was that auntanne?

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm guessing it was about the 11th from the top (don't have my glasses on and the numbers are too small), I work late on Mondays and Tues and go bowling on Wed. evenings so it's dark when I get home until Thurs. I will take pics then. But at some point in time I'm going to need to set something up. I'm going to extend my garden to the back yard and like I said the front already takes me over an hour to water. So....... we'll see.

Anne

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

okay..thanks..
Yeah- I'm pretty clueless in doing those kind of tasks...I hire those things out.
You could try an experiment though and mix a bunch of lava sand to where your going to plant...and plant one tree. Lava sand helps retain moisture. I'm not familiar with the rain fall pattern there though...

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Well, normally that would be a really good idea. But then things happen like last summer when I lost most of my things to too much rain. The water retention thing wouldn't have been a good thing then. I'll figure it out.

Anne

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

AuntAnne, you need to dmail City_Sylvia and find out what system it was that we put in at her house. You just put out the tubing and punch holes in it ever so often for the mister heads. It takes some muscle, but it went pretty quick once we got the hang of it.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

K, thanks.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

You know, I think I need to talk to Sylvia too. I need some help keeping up with my yard.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

We could just take turns going to each others houses getting them set up. lol

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Now that would be so much fun! I like that idea Anne.:)

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

It's really not a bad idea. Just a couple of times a year decide who needs what the most and bring pot luck and git 'er done. Some work, a lot of fellowship and then eat. Works for me.

Anne

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Now that's my idea of a vacation.:)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

yes, great idea.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

How far is this place from the house?

I have put a Y connector on my hose from the garage-- on goes to the deck, and the other goes to the back garden....I just switch a little switch..is it possible to hook up something like that..so when you wanted to water down there, you have a long hose that goes there and you just switch to which ever hose you want.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I've got several beds. The lot is about a little less than 2 ac. and the house has a large front yard, with beds in various places across the yard. I would like at some point to put in beds in the back in that the back is almost barron as compared to the front.

Anne

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Well..that option could get a couple of beds started....
