CLOSED: Would like to know

Palm Beach Gardens, FL(Zone 10a)

This has been flying around our herb garden and it seems to like the basil flowers. So far I've been unable to find an ID. Anyone know?

That looks like a Metallic Green Bee. Here is a link to it on Bug guide: http://bugguide.net/node/view/152767

I am in the process of trying to get this one posted as a new bug, but it wouldn't take the Order or Family. Here is a link to my post and a picture of mine. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/801792/

Nice capture!

That is an awesome pic with it being in flight!

Creekwalker ....... I'm not sure that what I saw is the same as yours ... metallic green bee.

The one in my photo is rather short and compact, and it does not have any hair on the body. It is rather stubby and fat... not long. It seem more like a Lasia purpurata, but I'm not sure. The proboscis seems different.

I have a picture attached of the same bee. I rescued this one from my pool. The picture shows it on the rim around the pool. It was id as a Augochlora pura.
If it didn't land in the pool I would never have been able to take it's picture as my camera is way too slow to catch it in flight.

Artcons .......

Yes your photo appears to be the same as mine. However, I am not convinced it is Augochlora pura...... to my eye, there are too many differences when compared to the references I've found.

Pete,
I checked at the extension and they id'd it for me. They ususally know what they are talking about. I saw a bunch of them last Friday at Flamingo Gardens, but my camera couldn't get a good picture, a common problem for me.
