Feeling isolated?

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

what does "a pot changes your zone by as much as 3 zones" mean? Now I really am confused. root rot.....guess that explains why the tiny potted ones died 1st.......hmmm.................my mom used to routinely bring things home & repott em, then just plant when she had time...not me, bring em home, ...pray that they'll live.....watch em slowly die.....then....wait for the next sale....doesn't make much sense does it? But it was such a GOOD sale...hahaha.....I guess a real bargain would be to pay full price , buy 4 instead of 20 & have all of em live..........gee, these painful lessons sink in.....somewhere.....I did begin repotting up some of them today.....some where things that can go into the shade.so off to the front they go...& so, .the heck with waiting for a 2nd shady area to be dig up in back.... diggging should be pretty easy in the front since gets natural mulch every year + lots of good worms , if all the eye popping, ground poking Robins are a clue. I got about 4 large showcase shade plants and wanted to have a water area that flowed from shade to sun (ar vise versa)......next year, maybe the water....this year save what I can with what's left.
Thank's all for the good advise.... things that have to stay potted...., I think you said 2 sizes up, right Leaflady?

The earth around a plant that's planted insulates it. If it's in a pot, it's less insulated.
http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/933/
If you can't plant it in the ground right away, you can sink it in a hole but leave it in the pot, so it has the insulation of the earth but not the actual dirt. But then you DO have to do some digging. Or you can wrap it up in leaves or mulch, put it in the most sheltered area you can find, put it in a bigger pot (without taking it out of the pot) and stuff the space with leaves or mulch or grass clippings or styrofoam peanuts or newspapers, anything to protect those roots a little.

Oh yeah...I wasn't using the ole gray matter....I've done that before...well all of that actually: not used the gray matter.....potted up and then mulched heavily sor winter protection (doesn't have to be ver heavy either here in piedmont NC. I was not even linking the fact of a plant being only in a pot rather than surrounded by 'earth" changing its "zone" but sure makes sense. TY!!
.....is there anyone who would please dmail me how to do this "hyperlink" thing in the blue letters...PLZ....

Oh...BTW, one thing exciting about all those plants I ordered...there are some B;ackberry Lilies that are yellow, rather than the typical orange speckled ones...well even in the little 4" pot , those things have had at least 12+ blooms, and now seed pods R forming...Yippee!!!

Just copy and paste the url address. No biggie. I thought you meant the

Quoting:
quote
which is slightly trickier and a lot more dramatic!

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

LOL...um, yea, is a "biggie"........ copy /paiste what from where......I dont ever see anything that says "HYPERlink" to copy paiste from and when someone does post that, it always leads exactly to what ...ever.......anyway......I do not iunderstand and thought perhaps someone might explain it to me..................all I know of "copy / paiste" it to highlight a word, sentence, para etc and that the same can then be "copy / paisted ...that does appear to be something different that creating a "hyperlink"
Yes, I would like to know how to highlight also, but need an explanation, and from someone who doesn't mind teaching..........Thanks... ;-)

Do you see the address bar, way up top, that says "http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/801301/#new"? At least that's what mine says right this minute. To make the kind of link to another page on DavesGarden that I made up there, I open a different tab (that's what they're called in FireFox), or maybe you would just go to the other page you wanted to link to. Then while you're there. highlight or select the entire address bar. Then push ctrl copy or whatever you do to copy something - it might be different on your computer. Then while the computer has the whole address memorized, go to the place you want to link TO. Then push ctrl V or however you paste something. That pastes the memorized address as a hyperlink. It looks all messy when you paste it, but it comes out like http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/132157/

Try it. Please!

BB, I know this is a bit pushy, but if you have any seed pods from the yellow Blackberry lilies could I please have some? I use to have a LOT of colors from Powell Gardens but am down to just the most common ones.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

OK ..let's see if this is thelink for the wildflower pilgrimage I was sharing about...http://www.springwildflowerpilgrimage.org/......hmmmmmmmmmmmmm no blue "HYPERLINK" thingie...just exactly what I "copied and paisted.................I know how to do that.....maybe some day during the lighted hours of the day. I'm going to bed soon...havn't slept well in 3 days.........................There has to be something else involved also, iin the creation of a HYPERLINK invlved that just coping and paisting..........also,...I know nothing about any "ctrl V".....when I "cut and paiste", I simply do just that I "cut" or "copy" and then..."Paiste"however I see fit.

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

BB, I am more lost in that process than you. I pray you figure out how to do it.

Birdie, the instructions I gave were just for within Dave's Garden.... There are instructions around here somewhere, the question is where. Remember, you won't see the colored letters until you "preview". When you two click on those links I post, do you get to the other pages?

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

You need to put the URL on a separate line. Not mixed in with text. Like this:

Not really helpful, but maybe.... Thanks, June.

Carrie --Sorry, I just used Birdie's link as a guide for her.

Your article, by the way, is terrific. Wish I had found it a long
time ago!

No worries, June. I know so much more than I did when I wrote it. Now I feel like I should write an article about how to make a hyperlink - except I forgot the part about starting a new line. duh!

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Well, if you do write that article, don't forget about Tiny URL for those humongously long web
site addresses. We use Tiny URL, especially in emails.
http://tinyurl.com/

It's free and it's safe.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

June, I don't know how to use Tiny URL, although I have dragged it into my tool bar!

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Hi all....I sure do appreciate all the help in trying to get me to undertand the hyperlink stuff.....I was both sleep deprived and computer challenged..I can rest and fix the 1st, but don't know what will help the other ;-) I hope no one took me as being a smart alec, but only frustrated at my lack of understanding ... thanks again

Birdie - We all started off knowing nothing, so don't beat up
on yourself. By the way, our Computer Forum has some
wonderful experts who are always willing to help out with
computer questions and problems. Don't feel shy about
asking anything in there.
