MG Cross-pollination??

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Sorry about another newbie question... I just read that morning glories cross pollinate easily - a suggestion was to plant different types different seasons or give at least 1/4 mile distance between? Is this true? I'm hoping to plant several different types next year - and harvest the ones I like and continue onward.

Unfortunately, my yard is far smaller than a football field.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

I don't know if they cross pollinate or not. Who knows you may come up with something really pretty if they do. Most people don't have a yard big enough to plant more than one color if this is true.

There may be some truth to cross pollinating as my Heavenly Blues came back as a deep purple this spring'No matter,I just love them all'

Eventually they will all revert back to the weedy small flowered dark purple type if you intend on gowing several varities next to each other. Even if you grow just one variety, most are hybrids which means they will still revert back. You can't save seed from a hybrid plant (with very few exceptions) and have it come back the next year looking exactly the same as the year before.

I've been told by more than one MG collector that cross-pollenation is rare---that most new types are the result of mutation, and in fact, I had a mutation this year myself! I thought I really had something until a collector told me it was a 'common' mutation that already had a name, and everything! He also said that only thirty per cent of my seeds would carry this mutation, and that I should feel secure in harvesting and swapping my seeds under the name I'd bought them under. If anyone has any souces to prove OR disprove this, I'd like to see them.

Do any of y'all have any pictures of your new hybrids?
