CLOSED: Your Favorite Perrenial Seed Swap

Southern, United States

With seed starting time right around the corner I thought what better way to begin than with adding some new returning favorites to our gardens!

So here we go...
1. This swap is available to 15 participants. Post intent to join below!
2. Send 14 packs of perennial seeds to me and I will swap them out and send them back out within 2 days of receiving all seeds.
3. Packs must be labeled with the following: Common name, Latin name, Hardiness zone, and DG name.
4. Deadline: When all 15 spots are filled or January 10, 2008.
5. Seeds must be received by January 15, 2008. They will be mailed back by January 17, 2008.
6. The usual SASBE required. Please include the following: A list of seeds sent (please include DG name on this), enough return postage for me to mail back to you, and a pre-addressed label to yourself.
7. Dmail me for my address when you are ready to mail seeds in.

That's about it! Let the perennial swap begin!

Thanks bloomheaven :-)

Now do we need to send in 14 different types or can there be repeats?

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Mine are ready to send off tomorrow.

Southern, United States

I started going through mine last night and organizing everything. I didn't realize how many more annuals that I had than perennials. I'm glad to get a few more for some foundation plantings!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I am going to try to get mine mailed out tomorrow. I haven't even sorted through them yet, but know that you mentioned they should be mailed out by the 10th (tomorrow).

Southern, United States

Becky, they don't have to be mailed by the 10th, just received by the 15th. I'll just close it to new participants tomorrow sometime.

Boxford, MA(Zone 6a)

I would LOVE to participate! Is there room?

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Mine are in the mail :-)

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

If I join, I'll need to figure out if the seeds I have through trades are perennials.. Humm.. Got to see if I can get that done in time to join..

Boxford, MA(Zone 6a)

I have some questions (besides if I'm in):
-Should we label the seed packs w/ our DG name? (If the seeds are duds, we could replace them.)
-How perennial is perennial? I mean, to which zone should they be hardy? I have many that are hardy in most zones, but a few that are only hardy to zone 7, so I plant them as annuals.
-Do biennials count?

Southern, United States

Hi Jax and Icosden. You are both on the list! We also had a dmail joiner B from the Netherlands, Bartjestuin! Welcome everyone!
Jax - any perennials are fine. Yes please do label with DG name, mostly for growing tips and such. And as for the hardiness zone info, I'm going to be matching up the seeds as best as I can so I will try to catch those and send them where they should be. As for the biennial question, I'm not sure lol. I had the same thought as I was going through my seeds. I think biennials are ok, I wouldn't mind getting them. But since this is perennial's swap.........maybe we should stick to them. If by chance you don't have enough perennials just send the biennials and that will be fine.

Boxford, MA(Zone 6a)

Growing tips- yikes! Just stick 'em in the ground! ;0)

Southern, United States

LOL

Boxford, MA(Zone 6a)

I noticed that we have a good mix of zones represented here, so I'll toss in a tropical!

BTW, we need to send 14 different perennials, correct? No dupes? (The no biennial has thrown me for a "dupe"- sorry!)

edited to say- oops, I noticed that we can include biennials. SOME biennials will bloom 1st year; depends on your zone!

You can send duplicates, there are enough of us that we can move them around so no one gets the same.

Boxford, MA(Zone 6a)

AWESOME!!!
I can't wait...

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Guess I better get busy since just about everything I have is from trades.. LOL.. I'll have to figure out if the stuff I got are perennials.. I've just been sorting based on if it's fragrant or not.. LOL..

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I sent mine out today. Many were duplicates because I wanted to make sure they were perennials. Most are good to zone 3 that I sent, so hopefully they will be okay. Fran, let me know when you receive mine. I am looking forward to getting my envie back with new seeds! :-)

Fran - I blew it! I didn't send you a list of the seeds I sent in the envelope. Sorry. My DG name is on all my seed packs. I don't even mind if I get a pack or two of mine back as I will plant everything! LOL!
