Starting seeds in sun

Paris, TX

I received this herb kit for Christmas. Do I leave them in my kitchen window with lots of warm sun or do I move them? I have a Jiffy seed starter kit and it says to avoid direct sun.

Which way does the window face?

I think you are fine if that picture is what you are referring to.
Just keep the temperature from getting too high or low.

You should never leave any seedlings that are enclosed in plastic or glass ( bag or dome) in direct sunlight. :)

The reason for avoiding direct sun is that covered pots will heat up just like a greenhouse and roast the seedlings. It may be quite cool in the actual area surrounding the kit, but inside, the temps can reach nearly triple digits.

Since your pots are uncovered, chances are, that won't be a problem, but it can also get quite cool next to glass windows, and seeds need soil that is roughly 70 degrees at all times. Nighttime temps can get much lower next to glass windows.

I would put the pots in a warm area until they germinate, then move them to the window, being careful not to over water, as it might cause fungal disease.

Starting seeds can be challenging until you get the hang of it. But after you've had some success, you'll be addicted.
