I was reading on another thread about this tree. We get very hot temperatures here during the summer and was wondering how this tree fares with that, what it looks like and so forth. I don't have any shade in my yard. I googled it (the tree) and couldn't find any pics.
Help?

Dwarf Chinkapin Oak
You might try spelling it Chinquapin instead, that's the way I've usually seen it spelled so you might get more hits that way.

Resin
Thanks for all the info. I used the different spelling and came up with lots of images. It's a beautiful tree.
I see that it's hardy in my zone. Does anyone have experience with 8 hours full sun in our heat which can get into the low 100º?
Kwanjin, here's a website that may interest you...

It looks like the regular form of Chinkapin Oak (Quercus muehlenbergii) is recommended for Utah. Another one on that list is Bur Oak (Q.macrocarpa), which is a good drought tolerant oak. Both of these trees get large, but my guess is that they will grow a but slower in Utah compared to the eastern US.
Thanks for that link. It's helping. Looks like oaks like the heat and dry. DH likes to water, water, water when he can. I was thinking a smaller oak would be good because of the small yard. I like the scrubs, too. They don't get that big.
